Chapter 233: Another one to kneel.

Jess urged Sienna to sit down, "Good child, I appreciate your input, but this matter is for me to decide. We wouldn’t want Cadelaria resenting you anymore than she does now."

Sienna settled in her place, besides Jess, thinking that her mother-in-law’s resentment did not matter anymore at this point. They would never co-exist peacefully, at most, they would settle for a life of ignoring each other. She folded her arms, waiting for the next spectacle to unfold, because this seemed far from over.

Lady Cadelaria was back to sobbing, tears streaking down her cheeks, mixing with mer make-up. She looked like a woman dressed in ghost make-up for halloween.

"How does she still have tears?" Sienna muttered her breath.

Just then, Cyra swept in through the open doors, giggling at whatever the person at the other end of her phone was saying. She was dressed in a two piece green silk suit, with a heavy, long, green fur coat for warmth. Her shoes and jewelry were mixtures of green and gold.

Sienna couldn’t help thinking that if the young woman’s hair was green too, she would have blended in perfectly with trees in a forest.

Cyra paused, startled by the sight of her mother kneeling.

"Grandma..." she began, her voice lilting, almost sing-song.

Jess’s hand slammed down with a thunderous crack. "Kneel."

The young woman blinked, pouted, and tried to act cute, tilting her head and fluttering her lashes. "Grandma, Jesse’s Jess, I am your little foxy, surely you don’t mean me?"

"Kneel," Jess repeated, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Sienna smirked from the sidelines. Cyra was not bad, but she was a touch spoiled. From her little observations and according to what the original Sienna had written in her diaries, Cyra had a habit of attempting to charm her way out of everything. Undoubtedly, a natural skill enhanced by her teacher, her mother. But in front of experienced Jess, it was as a transparent as glass.

Slowly, reluctantly, Cyra sank to her knees beside Cadelaria, her cloak pooling around around her like moss.

In that moment, Sienna had a feeling that if she had been deeply entrenched within the family, she would be on her knees too right now!

Jess leaned forward, her voice low and dangerous. "How long have you known that your mother was moving heavy resources fro, our estate to her family? Do not play games with me. I have the ledgers. I am looking at the losses. She even transferred two of my personally trained attendants and three grooms to serve her parents." She laughed. "Ridiculous! Two hundred fifty million in money alone. This is not supporting a family, this is capital for a large company."

Cyra’s pout faltered. She looked at her mother with wide eyes. "Two hundred fifty million! Mama! Two hundred fifty million." She raised her hand to her forehead, just a tad dramatically. The gold bracelets around her wrist tapped, making a sound close to wind chimes. She looked at at her grandmother, "I admit that I....I knew some things. But small things like jewelry which cost a few thousand beast coins.

A horse or two, which would be returned after a race, or so I was told. A few food stuffs, which I didn’t think was a big deal because they would spoil if we just collected them. But when it became frequent, I tried to talk her out of it! She wouldn’t listen. I am just a child, grandma, what could I do? It’s not like I could strip her of her authority over the estate."

Sienna raised an eyebrow. "A child? At your age! You are old enough to marry any man from the council of elders if you wanted."

Cadelaria gasped.

Cyra shot Sienna a glare, but quickly turned back to her grandmother. "I did something about it. I told Elias and he promised to take care of it. He has been buying back some of the things mama’s family sold. It was the best way to save us from embarrassment, since mama wouldn’t listen. I thought that was enough."

Jess’s eyes narrowed. "Enough? You looked the other way as your mother bled this estate dry, and you call it enough? You made your brother buy back things that originally belonged to us and you thought that was enough? Do you feel sorry for Elias? That was his hard earned money!"

Sienna slammed her hand down. "How dare you! That is my husband’s money. That is my children’s inheritance. That is my money." She turned to Jess, "Grandma, this is unforgivable."

Jess patted the back of Sienna’s hand, "Easy child, easy."

Sienna huffed. "Grandma, how can I take it easy after learning this? How much has my husband lost over the years? It could be hundreds of millions, we don’t know." She rolled her head, holding the back of her neck, groaning like it was in pain, "This is crazy! This is nuts!" She pointed to her mother-in-law, "Congratulations, mother-in-law. Your family is secure, while ours is on the way to starvation. Truly, a masterclass in priorities."

"Indeed, this is a case of misplaced priorities. Clearly, the Veythar’s matter less to Cadelaria than the Twindell’s." Jess smiled sweetly at her daughter-in-law. But that sweetness was laced with poison. "Which makes me wonder where you would rather live for the next years of your life. Will you be a Veythar or a Twindell?"

Cadelaria whimpered, clutching Cyra’s hand. "Mother, please--"

"Silence!" Jess’s voice cracked like a whip. She rose, her cloak swirling, and summoned the guards with a flick of a hand. "We are setting off immediately to retrieve what Elias did not recover. Every jewel, every horse, every antique. If I could, I would make your family vomit everything they have eaten as well, but sadly, that cannot be done." She gestured to a guard, "Fetch Elias, we shall need him for this little trip. It is time the Twindell’s are reminded of who runs this family."

The guards, attendants, accountants and butlers snapped to attention. Sienna rose slowly, biting back laughter. The drama was thick enough to choke on, and she couldn’t help adding layers.

"Grandma," she said sweetly, "perhaps we should let mother-in-law explain where the money went. After all, she might have invested wisely. Maybe in.....fat rolls. Or classes on dramatic fainting lessons for her granddaughter. You should hear about the ridiculous Twindell morals she has been instilling in Ali. That is why I was forced to flee from this estate in the middle of the night with nothing but my kids, and the clothes on my back."
