Qin Yi stood at the stone gate, maintaining his stride position, stunned for a full half-incense’s time.
His gaze swept back and forth between “Shadow’s” pitch-black downy fluff, its short, tiny beak, and those golden eyes that seemed to burn with flames. Then, he strode quickly over to Su Ming, not even bothering with formalities as he directly reached out, professionally squeezed Shadow’s bone structure, and flipped through the roots of its wing feathers.
Shadow was extremely displeased by this stranger’s touch. It arched its back, a sharp glint subtly gathering in its golden eyes.
Su Ming moved with lightning speed, using his finger to press down on its tiny head, calming its impending attack instinct before it could strike.
“Unbelievable... simply unbelievable.” Qin Yi withdrew his hand, his voice carrying a barely restrained excitement, even his breathing turning slightly rushed. “Little Junior Brother, you’ve stumbled onto a massive find! This is no ordinary Profound Shadow Crow!”
Su Ming’s heart skipped a beat, but on the surface, he put on a bewildered look. “Second Senior Brother, what do you mean by that? I think it... looks rather friendly.” He barely stopped himself from saying the words “like a chick.”
“Friendly? This is the ultimate level of bloodline inward concealment!” Qin Yi’s face flushed red with excitement. He pointed at Shadow’s seemingly limp, fluffed-up down and explained in a nearly reverent tone, “In the ancient spirit beast lineage, the more mixed a demon beast’s bloodline, the more ferocious and hideous it appears at birth to scare off natural predators. But true ancient alien beasts with pure starlight bloodline, on the other hand, display this phenomenon of ‘ancestral reversion concealment’ during their newborn stage!”
The more Qin Yi spoke, the more excited he became. He paced back and forth inside the cave dwelling.
“This form of its, seemingly like an ordinary domestic fowl chick, is actually a top-tier disguise. This down not only isolates all aura detection but also greatly reduces its presence during its infancy. Once this down sheds and is replaced by true dark-golden hard feathers, that is when the true divine fowl form will be revealed!”
At this point, Qin Yi suddenly stopped pacing and stared at Shadow with burning intensity.

“Also, I just observed its flight posture and the way it looked at me... this level of clarity, this vigilance in guarding its master. To have such extremely high intelligence right after hatching is exceedingly rare, even in the ancient era!”
Su Ming guiltily averted his gaze, using his peripheral vision to glance at Lin Yu, who was still hovering in midair but completely invisible to Qin Yi.
That clear-eyed gaze and extremely high intelligence were mostly due to Lin Yu’s overbearing Branding of the Law, which had directly spared it the long chaotic period.
“Ahem.” Su Ming cleared his throat twice and smoothly deflected the credit elsewhere. “This might be... thanks to the Enlightening Pill that Second Senior Brother gifted me. After I fed it to it, it immediately recognized me as its master.”
“The Enlightening Pill does have remarkable effects, but this is mainly due to its own deep foundation.” Qin Yi, having no doubts, nodded.
He unfastened a massive storage pouch from his waist, placed it on the stone table, and his tone became very solemn.
“Little Junior Brother, inside here are the high-grade spirit beast rations I prepared earlier. It’s currently in a rapid growth phase, so its appetite will be astonishing. Remember, its bloodline belongs to the stars; absolutely do not feed it any elixirs or spiritual objects containing water-elemental spiritual energy, or it will cause bloodline conflict.”
Qin Yi gave many detailed instructions on feeding, then stared at Shadow for a good while longer before reluctantly taking his leave. Clearly, he was eager to return and browse through the sect’s ancient records to verify his theory about “ancestral reversion concealment.”
After seeing Qin Yi off, Su Ming looked at the mountain of rations piled on the table and finally let out a long sigh of relief. With the backing of Qin Yi, a top student from Spirit Beast Peak, he wouldn’t have to worry about anyone questioning the origins of this black chick when he brought Shadow around the sect in the future.
For the next three days, Su Ming did not set foot outside his cave dwelling even once. Aside from stabilizing his cultivation base, he spent his time observing Shadow’s changes.
After three days, Shadow’s appearance underwent a significant transformation.
Its once wet and sticky natal down had completely dried out, turning into a layer of extremely fine, glossy, pitch-black feathers with a faint blue luster. Though its body was still only the size of an adult’s fist, the most eye-catching feature was the edge of its wings, where a few hard feathers with faint dark-golden patterns had quietly grown.
These hard feathers were like miniature blades; when flapped, they could even cut through the air, producing an extremely faint hissing sound.
“Time to go out for some fresh air.”
Su Ming stored the important resources inside his cave dwelling, adjusted his True Disciple’s purple robe, and Shadow expertly flapped its wings, landing precisely on Su Ming’s left shoulder. Its golden eyes curiously surveyed the surroundings.
Opening the heavy stone gate, the long-missed sunlight and mountain breeze carrying the scent of grass rushed in.
Su Ming locked the protective formation lines of the cave dwelling back into place, confirmed it was secure, and then strode down the mountain path. He planned to head to Spirit Beast Peak to officially have Qin Yi register Shadow, and also to ask for some practical beast-taming techniques.
Ancient trees towered on both sides of the mountain path, and Formation Peak’s spiritual energy permeated the forest year-round.
Perched on Su Ming’s shoulder, Shadow appeared extremely excited. Its tiny head constantly swiveled in all directions, each movement incredibly agile.

Suddenly, a faint sound of breaking air came from above.
A few colorful, low-grade spirit sparrows, trailing long tail feathers, were chasing and playing among the treetops.
Su Ming only felt a slight lightness on his shoulder; a weak yet incredibly sharp gust of wind instantly exploded right by his ear.
The golden light in Shadow’s pupils abruptly contracted. Its usually soft feathers instantly flattened against its body, its entire frame snapping taut like a fully drawn bow. It let out a sharp, piercing short chirp, its legs kicking off violently, transforming into a blurry black streak that shot straight at the several spirit sparrows in midair!
Its speed was so fast that it even left a faint, hazy blue trail in the air!
“Come back!”
Su Ming moved with lightning speed, his right hand shooting upward as an immense, invisible hand of liquid spiritual energy seized Shadow midair, just as it was about to burst out of the canopy.
“Cheep!”
Forced back onto his shoulder by the spiritual energy hand, Shadow looked very aggrieved. It flapped its wings discontentedly, its golden eyes still carrying an untamed wildness that had yet to fade.
“Don’t cause trouble.” Su Ming extended a finger, pressing it mercilessly on its little head, and lowered his voice in warning. “Within this sect, curb your hunting instincts. If you get shot down as a demonic beast, I’m not responsible for burying you.”
