Seven days inside the sealed cave dwelling at Gazing Star Cliff passed in what felt like only a few cycles of the Major Heavenly Circulation under Su Ming’s fingertips.
Su Ming sat cross-legged on his meditation cushion, his breath long and steady as if it had merged with the surrounding Greenstone. His Like Water Art was running at an exquisitely calm rhythm, and the dark-blue liquid lake of spiritual energy in his Dantian lay perfectly still without a ripple.
Crack.
An extremely faint, crisp sound exploded in the dead-silent cave with no warning.
Su Ming’s tightly closed eyes flew open. A flash of deep blue light passed through his pupils. His gaze, sharp as a sword, stabbed straight at the Minor Heavenly Cycle Star Power Gathering Formation in the center of the hall.
The formation, which had been running smoothly, now emitted a strained buzzing as if it could not bear the load. In the formation’s center, the pitch-black Profound Shadow Egg trembled violently. The dark-golden lines on its shell, which had only slowly flowed when the egg drew star power before, now seemed fully alive, writhing like frenzied golden serpents crawling across the shell.
With that crisp sound, a hairline crack emerged at the top of the shell.
Then that crack, like a hammer blow on ice, rapidly spread outward. Spiderweb-like fissures covered half the shell in an instant, and blinding dark-golden light shot through them, causing the dim cave to flicker between light and shadow as if immersed in an ancient sacrificial rite.
The Void overhead twisted slightly, and Lin Yu’s soul body, solid and white-jade like, drifted out without a sound.
“Stop meditating. That little thing is coming out.” Lin Yu gathered his phantom sleeves and watched the trembling Profound Shadow Egg with a rare seriousness in his voice.
Su Ming said nothing unnecessary. He sprang up from the cushion like a coiled spring. He didn’t even pat his storage pouch. With a movement of his divine sense, three items he had prepared long ago floated into view before him.
A jade bottle of verdant green containing Enlightening Pills.

A piece of Spirit-Communion Jade Marrow emitting a gentle white light, flawless and pure.
And a strand of Star-Pattern Silk soaked in his essence blood for nine days and nights, its whole body showing an eerie crimson.
Star power was backflowing faster and faster. Outside the cave’s skylight, visible starlight funneled toward the egg like a funnel. That overwhelming pulse of life made Su Ming’s meridians resonate faintly.
He reflexively pulled out a pale-purple communication talisman, preparing to inform Second Senior Brother Qin Yi.
“There’s no time. Put it away.” Lin Yu interrupted sharply, cutting off Su Ming’s action. “Star power is raging. The egg’s life core has fully awakened. In at most half an incense stick of time, it will surely break the shell. Even if Qin Yi sprouted wings and flew here, he wouldn’t make it in time.”
Su Ming’s fingers froze. He immediately stuffed the talisman back into his sleeve.
“Follow the steps he taught you exactly. Not a single mistake. I’ll be your protector here. If it collapses, I’ll take the blow for you.” Lin Yu’s figure drifted a little lower. His powerful divine sense spread soundlessly, firmly covering the entire formation.
Su Ming took a deep breath and forced down the spiritual energy that had started to churn with anxiety inside him.
He sat cross-legged less than half a foot from the Profound Shadow Egg. At such close range, the scorching breath seeping from the fissures nearly singed his eyebrows.
He did not activate protective spiritual energy. Instead he reached out and placed both hands directly on the scalding, cracked sides of the shell.
Thud, thud, thud.
The strong, powerful beat of a heart traveled unobstructed from his palms through his whole body. He could clearly feel that a life within the egg was using the most primitive method to batter the barrier that had imprisoned it for so long.

Crack—boom!
A muffled explosion rang out. The largest fragment at the top of the shell, unable to withstand the internal force, was blasted outward and turned into a spray of golden light particles midair.
The air in the cave seemed to freeze at that moment.
Su Ming held his breath and stared unblinkingly at the opened gap.
A small head poked out from the breach.
It lacked the terrifying, world-shaking ferocity of some ancient monstrous beast, and there was none of the divine light one might expect. It was a pitch-black head, still wet and slick with viscous slime. Sparse black down lay flat against its forehead. Its beak was short and sharp.
This appearance was less the ancient star-blooded beast Su Ming might have imagined and more like a tiny black chick that had tumbled into an inkwell after crawling out of a nest.
However, the ridiculous contrast was shattered the instant it opened its eyes.
They were a pair of utterly pure golden eyes. No pupils, no sclera—only burning divinity and wildness. The moment those eyes fixed on him, Su Ming’s mind jolted as if two miniature suns had risen in the darkness.
Cheep—
A faint, fragile chirp came from its small mouth.
It turned its head and that pair of golden eyes locked on the very nearby Su Ming at first glance.

A strange, profound bond sprouted in the air. Su Ming did not hesitate for even half a second. His right hand moved like lightning, crushing the jade bottle’s seal. He pinched an Enlightening Pill between two fingers and precisely shoved it into the creature’s slightly open sharp beak.
The black little thing swallowed; its throat moved and the pill slid down.
Almost the instant the pill went in, the gold in its eyes surged. The previously somewhat dazed expression cleared rapidly. It cocked its head and regarded Su Ming with the appraisal of a fellow being.
“Now! Claim it!” Lin Yu’s low command exploded in Su Ming’s ear.
Su Ming slammed his left hand onto the ground and liquid water-attributed spiritual energy gushed out. The Spirit-Communion Jade Marrow floated up, cradled by the spiritual energy, hovering directly above the pair of them.
Dazzling white light poured from the marrow, forming a closed luminous dome that completely enclosed Su Ming and the little creature.
The instant the white light descended, Su Ming felt a pressure at his brow. An invisible bridge of divine sense was forced into existence, spanning species boundaries and connecting his mind to this newborn spirit beast.
Chaotic, disordered emotions flooded Su Ming’s Consciousness Sea like a tide.
Extreme hunger, instinctive alertness to the surroundings, a craving for the world’s spiritual energy, and the deepest reliance on the one who fed it its first meal.
Su Ming bit down hard and tore his tongue.
A mouthful of crimson essence blood spat out. Instead of dispersing, he forcibly gathered it into a cloud of blood mist with spiritual energy.
The Star-Pattern Silk floating in the glass dish seemed struck by a fatal attraction. It instantly transformed into a crimson spirit serpent and threaded through the blood mist. The silk fully absorbed that blood essence, exploded into glaring red light, and at a speed almost imperceptible to the naked eye, tightly wound itself around the wet little body.
