Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Infighting

"Byron, this is a misunderstanding. Just listen to me..." Silas Golding hastily explained.

"There’s nothing to say. That ’medicine’ is still sitting in my house. It’s full of poisonous snakes and venomous insects! Even a grown adult could die from that stuff. You know damn well what your wife was trying to do!"

Byron Thorne’s usually gentle face was dark as a thundercloud. The police taking so long to make an arrest meant they must have found evidence of Mystic Liu’s crimes. It also proved Linden’s mother’s venomous intent to harm his family. The dagger was at his throat; he naturally wouldn’t tolerate it any longer.

Tang Xiaonan felt like applauding Byron Thorne. She’d always thought of him as timid and conflict-avoidant, but she never expected him to be so assertive, openly confronting Silas Golding like this.

"We’re going home!"

Byron Thorne barked the order, and his family headed home. Linden’s mother was still lying on the ground, motionless, looking for all the world like she was dead. His face black with fury, Silas Golding suddenly hauled Linden’s mother to her feet and began to beat her mercilessly.

"This’ll teach you to meddle! So what if someone else can’t have kids? What the hell does that have to do with you? All you do from dawn to dusk is stir up trouble. You’ve turned this whole house upside down! Looks to me like you’re itching for a beating!"

"Stop hitting me... No good deed goes unpunished... I... how was I supposed to know Mystic Liu’s medicine would make someone birth a freak? I had no idea!"

Linden’s mother cried out for mercy, a wretched sight after the beating. There wasn’t a single unbruised spot on her face or body. Linden Golding tried to stop his father but was pulled back by his wife. "Didn’t you hear what Raina just said? She wants our entire family, young and old, to pay with our lives, you know? Your mother and your sister run around like their asses are on fire, starting trouble everywhere. And they always have to provoke the Thorne family. If they want to die, fine, but they’re not dragging me and my children down with them!"

"My mom was just trying to help..." Linden Golding tried to defend his mother.

Linden’s wife sneered. "Your mom, trying to help? She has a heart as black as coal. Linden Golding, I’m telling you straight: I’ve had enough of this life. If this happens one more time, we’re getting a divorce, and I’m moving back in with my parents!"

With that, Linden’s wife yanked her hand away and ushered her son and daughter into the house. ’If Linden Golding didn’t have at least a shred of decency, I would’ve left for my parents’ house long ago. Phoenix Golding uses her status as his older sister to meddle in everything, even what happens between me and Linden in our own bedroom. And my mother-in-law is even worse, constantly putting on airs around me. More than anything, I wish those two damn women would just get what they deserve.’

Linden’s mother, who had been whimpering from the beating, saw her daughter-in-law giving her son the cold shoulder. She leaped to her feet, suddenly full of vigor, and started shrieking, "If you’ve got the guts, then get the hell back to your parents’ house right now! How dare you throw a tantrum at my son? You worthless, unlucky bitch! You think you could ever get remarried after leaving my son? Pah! Why don’t you take a piss and look in the mirror to see what you really look like!"

"Mom, that’s enough! Ugh... can you just give it a rest!"

Linden Golding went inside, his face etched with worry. ’If we really divorce, I’ll never find another good wife. Mom’s really getting more muddled with age. She has no sense when it comes to saying or doing things.’

Silas Golding slapped her across the face. "Worry about yourself first! If you cause trouble one more time, you can get the hell back to Rosillia Village!"

Linden’s mother froze. She and her husband had been arguing for decades, but this was the first time Silas had ever told her to get out. Seeing the look of pure disgust in his eyes, she shivered and didn’t dare act so brazenly again.

Linden’s wife emerged with a bag slung over her shoulder. Linden Golding chased after her, pleading with her. His wife shot a cold sneer at Linden’s mother. "I’m not fit to serve a family like this, and I certainly don’t dare wait on a black-hearted mother-in-law like you. Who knows, one day you might slip some rat poison into my food!"

No matter what Linden Golding said to placate her, his wife wouldn’t be swayed. She snapped at him, "One’s a cheating whore, and the other is a depraved monster who tries to poison children. You expect me to live with a mother and sister like that?"

After saying her piece, she turned and walked away without a single look back.
