Chapter 325: Parasite [ 4 ]
Initially, her body had been way too hot, to the point that steam was coming out. Now, however, it was frozen solid. I could feel that her blood was beginning to freeze itself, and while it did look dangerous, the sheer fact that Clementine still had her diamond skin ability activated assured me that she knew what she was doing.
And from the looks of things, I wasn’t mistaken, since a burst of trapped heat from earlier suddenly washed over her body, thawing the ice and allowing her blood to flow normally.
She definitely knew what she was doing, and of course, that also meant I had nothing to worry about. Though, while I was in the midst of just waiting around and doing nothing, I suddenly heard a knock on the door.
Even Jenna perked up, glancing at me, as if she was asking me if she should open the door. I shook my head at her and did it myself. Yet who I most definitely didn’t expect to see was Kevin. Except this time, he was in one piece.
"You’re fine?" I asked with a slight smirk.
Kevin narrowed his eyes. "May I come in?"
I shrugged. "Nope. Clementine’s going through something, so I don’t need any distractions. Just tell me what you need and then get going, if you would."
He seemed a little offended by my words, but then again, it was just Kevin. He always gets offended by everything.
Though I was kind of surprised by how fast his regeneration was now.
Anyhow...
"I need a sparring partner. Spar with me. That’s the least you can do after what you did to me yesterday, don’t you think?" Kevin said.
I shrugged. "I guess I could, but a little later, alright? I’m busy now."
Right as Kevin was about to start complaining, a certain someone chimed in.
"Can I spar with him?" Jenna said out of nowhere.
Both of us turned toward her, our brows raised in confusion.
"You?"
"Aren’t you just a little girl?"
She pouted. "I read a lot of stories about how to fight. I also know a few moves since my father taught them to me. Hey, it’s not like you two have much of a choice. You can either be boring and not let me, or let me and not be boring, you know?"
What kind of logic was this?
"Are you stupid?" Kevin mumbled.
For one, I agreed with Kevin. She really was being reckless here.
But then again, seeing the determination in her gaze, I felt like she needed a wake-up call. If she wanted to get beat up so badly, I’ll let her.
"Fine... Go to the courtyard."
I went over to the balcony and opened it, then I pointed at the field below. It wasn’t Clementine’s garden, thankfully, but it was some kind of garden taken care of by other people. Those people weren’t awake at the moment, and judging by how there was an empty spot in the very middle, I felt like we could turn that into some kind of fighting arena.
And as expected, Kevin was already there, waiting for Jenna to come down. Though for some reason, Jenna just stood beside me, staring down below.
"Something wrong?" I asked.
Jenna turned to me with a smile. "Can you help me get down?"
"..."
Yep.
She’s screwed.
I lowered her with my Telekinesis and skipped the pep talk, since clearly, she didn’t need it. In the end, she made her way over to the center, and when she was right in front of Kevin, she bowed.
Seeing his mouth move, I decided to increase my hearing and the rest of my senses so I could hear them clearly.
"...Why are you bowing?"
"I heard they bow before battle. Don’t mind me. Oh, and don’t hold back either. My father used to tell me I’m pretty strong," she assured him.
He felt helpless because of her naivety, so the least he could do was just take her seriously. He unsheathed one of his swords and aimed it at her. As for Jenna, she just stood across from him, not saying anything or taking a stance.
I leaned over the railings, my attention drawn to them. Of course, my attention was still primarily on Clementine, but I could multitask. On the topic of multitasking, I suddenly spotted her back glowing as a magnificent trio of wings manifested, momentarily shocking Kevin.
But by then, they had already begun their fight. One side didn’t really want to fight the other, but the other was very, very eager, to the point where she was so immersed in the coolness factor of the fight that she hadn’t even realized just how intimidating she really looked.
Though, intimidation or not, her immature personality was a throw-off for Kevin, who managed to keep his composure and make the first move, crossing the distance between them in the blink of an eye.
For a brief moment, a moment only I could have noticed, Jenna’s eyes turned pitch black. And as expected, in that very same moment, the wings expanded, blocking Kevin’s strike effortlessly and slashing him across the chest.
Blood spurted outward like a garden hose, spraying all over Jenna’s face. And yet, Jenna hadn’t even realized what happened, as by the time she regained her consciousness, Kevin was already several meters away from her, holding his chest with a pained look.
He was definitely not expecting her to fight back this way, but at the very least, he now knew that she wasn’t a pushover. For that reason alone, he knew that he could go all out and actually use his Gravity Manipulation.
The whole middle garden area suddenly cracked as a fierce pressure descended. It was so intense, to the point that I felt like I would need to intervene myself just to make sure Jenna didn’t die.
And yet, it seemed like the Hive Mind was serious when it mentioned her being a perfect vessel, as no matter what danger met her... the Hive Mind always stepped in to save her.
