Chapter 376: Chapter 376: Misdiagnosis

For this highly-educated daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tang is quite pleased. Normally, she’s very diligent, and she’s even the literacy class teacher in their village, which is already impressive, but now she’ll eventually become a doctor. So, Mrs. Tang doesn’t say much, "You learned people know a lot. If I don’t say anything more, it’s fine."

Tang Guoqing knew his wife could persuade his mother. Yu Cuiyu is a wise woman who can get along harmoniously with his mother. Initially, he was most worried about their mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship not being harmonious, but after marriage, he realized he was overthinking it.

"Oh, our little Xiaocao is awake. I’ll go mix some formula for my dear grandson." Mrs. Tang took out the formula she brought from home, which was already opened but not finished, scooped two big spoonfuls, and mixed it with hot water. The room was instantly filled with the aroma of milk.

"Sweet grandma." Xiaocao, already familiar with it, waited for it to cool a bit, eagerly drank half, and then pushed it toward Yu Cuiyu and Mrs. Tang. "Mom, drink. Grandma, drink."

Tang Guoqing teased with a smile, "No share for Dad, right?"

"Dad drinks too."

The four-member family was quite warm and cozy.

In truth, Mrs. Tang felt a bit disappointed; having a grandson would make it perfect. But during Xiaocao’s illness, she wouldn’t say such things to her daughter-in-law, as it would only make Yu Cuiyu less willing to have more kids.

Yi Roujing left the hospital without taking the bus and walked home instead. She was a bit sentimental about the unpredictability of life and urgently wanted to see Baozi. Even though she had disinfected herself, she was still worried. Her medical professionalism and rationality told her she had disinfected thoroughly and promptly, so there’s no chance of spreading it to others. But as a mother, she was cautious, strolling slowly on the street, hoping the wind would blow away some of her inexplicable emotions.

It took her almost half an hour to walk to the gate of Qianbazi Village, and she was somewhat warm from the walk. When she saw the man standing not far from the gate, her eyes got a little moist.

Xu Ancheng was slightly taken aback, then with concern in his eyes, he walked straight toward Yi Roujing. "What happened? Why did you change your clothes and wear a mask?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"How did you recognize me?" Yi Roujing asked, choked with emotion.

"How could I not recognize my own wife? How would I cooperate with the police in solving cases then?" Xu Ancheng said with an amused look, taking another step toward Yi Roujing.

Instinctively, Yi Roujing took a step back. Xu Ancheng slightly furrowed his brows, reached out, pulled her into his arms, and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Don’t get too close. Today, I came in contact with a patient with tuberculosis," Yi Roujing said.

Xu Ancheng’s pupils widened, "In direct contact? He coughed near you?"

Yi Roujing shook her head, "Actually, there shouldn’t be any problem."

Yi Roujing then recounted her encounter with Wang Qiushuang, whose daughter had tuberculosis. She had immediately put on a mask and later disinfected and changed clothes with Mu Guixian. "Wang Qiushuang is also careful. She covered the child’s mouth with a cloth and used an old coat as a shield to avoid affecting others."

"But I think it’s best for us to keep some distance for a while," Yi Roujing said. "I’ll go for a chest CT in a few days. Once cleared, I’ll live with you again."

Xu Ancheng rested his forehead against Yi Roujing’s, wanting to pull down her mask to kiss her, scaring Yi Roujing, who immediately stopped him.

"Sigh," Xu Ancheng sighed, "Being apart from Baozi for a while is also good. We can enjoy some time alone. I’ll ask Mrs. Kang to pack our luggage and have Uncle Cao bring it over. We’ll stay at the little house on Yuanxue Lane for a while."

"By myself..."

"I don’t want to sleep alone," Xu Ancheng said, pulling her as they walked out. "Conveniently, I have the keys with me. Let’s go now; I’ll tidy things up."

"What about Baozi?" Yi Roujing’s thoughts lingered on her son.

"He’s at home, building ships with his grandpa," Xu Ancheng explained. "Baozi is big enough to understand, and there’s someone to look after him. We’ll call him daily."

"Or should we go to the hospital for a CT scan now?"

In the end, the couple went directly to the small house. Yi Roujing lay on a recliner soaking up the sun, while Xu Ancheng busied himself with cleaning and wiping, not forgetting to make phone calls.

The first person Xu Ancheng called wasn’t from the Xu family but the Mu family, directly calling Mu Guixian.

"Ancheng?" Mu Guixian was a bit surprised to receive a call from Xu Ancheng.

Xu Ancheng explained Yi Roujing’s situation to her, and Mu Guixian understood, "Don’t worry, Ancheng. Roujing won’t get infected. The latest tests on Ding Lingli showed it was only pneumonia, not tuberculosis. The previous hospital must have misdiagnosed it. They only took a chest X-ray, and now both mother and daughter have been moved to the general ward. I was planning to call Roujing later anyway."

Upon hearing this, Xu Ancheng laughed, "Thanks, Aunt Guixian, I’ll let her know."

After hanging up, Xu Ancheng looked at Yi Roujing sunbathing with her eyes closed on the recliner and couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head. He then called the Xu family, "Mrs. Kang, could you pack some clothes for Roujing and me? Please have Uncle Cao bring them to the little house on Yuanxue Lane. We’ll be staying there for a few days."

"Staying for a few days?" Mrs. Kang gave a knowing look, "I understand, but I still think Minister Xu should take the call."

Xu Zongyin answered the phone, amused at his son’s request, "What about Baozi?"

"Dad, please watch over him more today. Tomorrow, let Uncle Cao bring Baozi to the little house," Xu Ancheng said.

"Alright, alright," Xu Zongyin hung up the phone and picked up Baozi, "Baozi, let’s have a good time together, you and grandpa. Your parents are busy tonight and won’t be back."

"Oh," Baozi accepted it well, "It’s good they have some time alone."

Hearing this, Xu Zongyin’s heart melted, "What a considerate grandson I have."

After hanging up, Xu Ancheng continued cleaning. Once he finished and washed his hands, he headed to the balcony, lifted Yi Roujing from the reclining chair, sat down himself, and placed her on his lap.

"Hey," Yi Roujing instantly opened her eyes, covering her mouth with her hand, "What are you doing, keep your distance."

"You’re going to be a doctor, so don’t overthink. Even if you don’t trust yourself, you should trust Aunt Guixian," Xu Ancheng said.

Yi Roujing pouted, "Of course I know, but my mind is a bit jumbled. Why are there so many sick children lately?"

"Every family has at least one patient. Isn’t it normal for people to get sick?" Xu Ancheng sighed, "Honestly, your classmates’ children aren’t suffering from life-threatening illnesses. We should be thankful they’re not and were promptly taken to the hospital."

"You seem to attract trouble wherever you go."

"Yes, I’m just glad I didn’t bring Baozi today," Yi Roujing felt somewhat relieved.

"Next time, take me with you. I’ll try to take days off during your breaks," Xu Ancheng said apologetically.
