Chapter 1187: Chapter 1187

Marcus watched as his twin pulsars spell winked out of existence. Then a moment later, he felt all of his enchantments besides Embodiment of Eclipse vanish as well.

’That’s one of his powerful unique skills out of the way.’

From the intel that he had received from the Draayer Empress, Marcus already knew that the Umbrashnul King had a unique skill called Banish Wave.

Its power was simple, but very potent. It canceled all active skills and magic spells everyone was using within a kilometer of the user.

Of course, the unique skill was unable to affect something more powerful than it like Marcus’ Supreme Skills.

Which was fortunate, because Marcus could tell that the king almost lunged to attack him until he was caught off guard by the powerful light and darkness energy still wrapped around Marcus.

Seeing that his Banish Wave had not gotten rid of the skill, he must have realized that it either came from an especially potent unique skill, or more concerning, a Supreme Skill.

Naturally, Marcus was not the only one that had been affected by the Umbrashnul King’s unique skill.

His allies had also been stripped of their magic and skills, and this momentarily left them far more vulnerable than usual.

’Laser.’

Without hesitation, Marcus fired his fastest offensive light spell.

His target was Vashtalive.

That man’s magic was truly annoying to deal with, and a large part of the reason he had been struggling against the four top Umbrashnuls.

The man was over level eighty though and had not gotten there without having survived through some dangerous battles.

As soon as he sensed the attack coming his way, he put up a shield and moved to dodge.

It was enough to keep him from being split in half as Marcus had intended. Instead, he only lost an arm as the light magic sheered through the shadows around him.

Seeing one of his subordinates taking a heavy wound, the Umbrashnul King no longer hesitated and threw himself back at Marcus.

Spear and scythe met, and Marcus found that without all of his enchantment magic boosting his stats, he was about an even match for the man. Honestly, he was a little weaker and felt himself being slowly pushed back.

Still, he had no intention of allowing the battle to return to how it was. Facing down four high level opponents that knew how to coordinate with each other was a nightmare to deal with.

Luckily, he had someone else he could foist the other Umbrashnuls off to and deal with the king one on one.

"Roxene, I’m leaving the rest of these guys to you. I’m sure you’ll be able to handle it."

Before anyone had a chance to respond, Marcus flared with power and pushed Embodiment of Eclipse to its limits.

His body and scythe soon formed together into one spinning mass of light and darkness, and he unleashed one of his strongest attacks.

’Eclipse Meteor.’

The Umbrashnul King attempted to push back against Marcus as he turned himself into a powerful projectile.

However, he had not been ready for the sudden bust in power, and the intense light Marcus was emitting obviously weakened him to a degree.

Soon the king’s feet were forced off the ground and the two of them went flying through the chamber at a blistering speed. And they did not stop until they reached the far end where the Umbrashnuls had come from.

There was a titanic explosion of light and darkness when Marcus finally met solid resistance.

For several kilometers he blasted through the stone of the Darknlands before finally arriving in another open space. Though one that was only around a tenth of the size of the area where the main battle was occurring.

When Marcus reformed his body and turned his attention towards the Umbrashnul King, he was surprised to see how little damage the man had taken.

Certainly, he had not gotten away unscathed, but Eclipse Meteor was not something most people could hope to shrug off after taking a direct hit.

’The list of information on his skills did speculate that he had some sort of damage mitigation ability. He probably used that.’ Marcus thought, analyzing his adversary’s capabilities.

He knew that he was in for a lot trickier of a fight than against Gronex.

The Lava Dragon had fought very straightforwardly. Basically only using his immense power to steamroll over everything.

And while the Umbrashnul King was certainly adept at frontal confrontations, as Marcus had already found out, he knew that his opponent possessed plenty of other powers that made him a nightmare to deal with. Had any of his companions challenged the man, they would have undoubtedly lost. And for one simple reason.

"You seem to believe that you will have chance of besting me now that we fight alone. But that is where you are wrong. I had hoped not to use this skill, but you have proven far too dangerous to let you live. I know not where that detestable empress found a creature like you or more importantly how she seduced you to her side, but know that it was a mistake to stand against me."

After giving his monologue, which Marcus had allowed since it gave him time to reapply all of his enhancement spells, the Umbrashnul King activated another unique skill. Which just so happened to be the very ability that necessitated that Marcus was the one to fight him.

"Damage Entanglement."

Nearly transparent ropes of mana shot out from the king and snaked their way towards Marcus.

He did not even bother dodging, as he already knew from the report he had read that it was impossible to do so. Once he had been targeted there was no way to stop the skill from hitting. Even if he were to use a Dark Portal to jump tens of thousands of kilometers away, he still would have ended up affected.

"That was neat. But you really didn’t do anything. Kind of a lackluster unique skill if you ask me." Marcus said mockingly.

"How ignorant you are. Allow me to fix that."

The Umbrashnul King hefted his spear aloft and slashed down.

Except, he was not aiming at Marcus. Instead, his strike was directed at his right arm.

His blade cut through it with ease, and the limb fell to the ground where it burst into shadows.

Almost immediately the shadows wrapped around the king and his arm was restored in mere moments.

However, while the man’s own arm was restoring itself, Marcus’ left arm had slipped from his shoulder and fallen to the ground. It had been severed in exactly the same manner as the Umbrashnul King’s had been.

"Do you see now how dire your situation is? I can harm myself without doing any appreciable damage, but you will end up torn apart. Feel free to lament whatever choices brought you before me but know that now that I have used this skill, your fate is already sealed." The Umbrashnul King said, his entire demeanor radiating certain victory.

Yet, Marcus merely smiled widely at the man and picked up the severed limb.

"That was a neat trick you just used. I think that I’ll try copying it."

In an instant, Marcus reabsorbed his arm into his form and grew it back fully in less than a second.

This earned him a flabbergasted look from the Umbrashnul King, and the man’s usually regal appearance was utterly shattered.

"What? Do you think that your species is the only one that can shrug off what is normally fatal to most. Why don’t you try cutting your head off next and see if that does any better in dispatching me."

To Marcus’ surprise, this was actually what the Umbrashnul king tried next.

He did not hesitate for a moment before slicing through his own neck and decapitating himself.

An instant latter, the same wound that the king had given to himself appeared on Marcus’ body as well.

He felt the sudden sensation of his head detaching from his body, and the icy pain that came along with it.

Fortunately, this was not the first time that Marcus had been decapitated.

A trap in the special dungeon had the honor of doing so first, and during the battle against the invader from outside of Mirrion on the Haze Island, he had had his entire head blown off.

Those instances had happened before his evolution, and now he was even more durable and better equipped for whenever he lost his head.

Tendrils of spiritual energy that took on the appearance of flesh shot out from both sides of his neck and grabbed ahold of each other.

This kept Marcus’ head from falling off his body while his healing magic and regenerating went to work reconnecting the two.

As quickly as he had restored himself, the Umbrashnul King’s had reformed as well.

"You know, I honestly did not think that you were going to do that, but I have to respect the effort. The whole reabsorbing my severed arm thing could have just been a bluff." Marcus said sarcastically.
