Mint and Bai Jingxuan arrived a step late.
Of course, they weren't actually that late. When Lin Xiaolu and Arrowroot Potato were nearing the end of their battle, the two had already quietly arrived nearby. Mint judged from the magical power fluctuation on the scene that Lin Xiaolu had the advantage, so they stopped and even held back Bai Jingxuan who wanted to help.
"Do you want to help the people from Black Ash Dawn?" Bai Jingxuan was confused by Mint's actions and also a bit dissatisfied: "Move aside."
Fortunately, over these past few days, they had gotten somewhat familiar, otherwise, given Bai Jingxuan's personality, she might have already started a fight.
"We don't need to go over there; your senior Bai Mei will naturally win."
Mint shrugged indifferently: "If you insist on going, I won't stop you, but I can't take the blame for 'helping the Beast Child.' However, have you thought it through? That Bai Mei has been frustrated quite a bit recently, and now she finally has a chance to regain her confidence. Do we really need to interrupt her?"
"Even if that's the case, how could I just because of that reason..." Before Bai Jingxuan could finish speaking, she was distracted by the intense magical power fluctuation in the distance.
That iconic blazing white magic power had somehow completely overwhelmed the black mist, its intensity far surpassing the specifications of the Seed Level, leaving one stunned.
Thus, Bai Jingxuan fell silent.
"What do you say?" Mint asked with a playful smile.
"... Maybe you're right," Bai Jingxuan shook her head, "But it's too far away here, I'm not comfortable, let's get a bit closer and have a look."
"Getting closer might just get us discovered by them?" Mint reminded.
"A bit closer, so if anything unexpected happens, I can help Sister Bai Mei beat up that guy."
Bai Jingxuan paused, then turned her head to glance at Mint: "And then come back and beat you up."
"Are kids so violent these days?" Mint surrendered with raised hands.
"Anyone from Black Ash Dawn deserves to be killed." Bai Jingxuan didn't look back.
Luckily, the situation developed unexpectedly smoothly, and danger didn't even come up. In the latter half of the battle, Lin Xiaolu was fully overpowering Arrowroot Potato.
So, when Mint and the others arrived, Lin Xiaolu was already there holding a bunch of number tags, waiting for them.
As for Arrowroot Potato, whom she defeated and who had fainted, she was carried to the Sky Island where she had been earlier. Of course, out of humanitarian concern, Lin Xiaolu did not leave the unconscious Arrowroot Potato together with the group of examinees she assaulted.
Having done this much can already be considered her utmost benevolence, so Lin Xiaolu had no qualms about kindly accepting the number tags that Arrowroot Potato had plundered.
Arrowroot Potato had hidden these tags under her long skirt, in a small pocket tightly strapped to her thigh with ribbons, wrapped around herself seriously. Lin Xiaolu had to put in quite an effort to dig them out.
Besides that, there was a strange object placed in her jacket pocket, like a sculpture, possibly her tool for influencing the examination hall's surveillance. Lin Xiaolu remembered Emerald Sparrow's instructions not to take it, to avoid alarming the enemy. She just took a few photos with her phone and put it back in the pocket.
After a lot of messing around back and forth, Lin Xiaolu finally finished searching the opponent. Fortunately, the findings were well worth the effort — there were quite a few stolen tags.
"Are all these tags snatched by that guy?" Mint fished her own tag out of the pile of number tags, playing with it single-handedly: "Wow, quite efficient."
Evidently, during the time from the first day to the second day, quite a number of other examinees, like Lin Xiaolu's team, fell victim to Arrowroot Potato's hands.
"Let's each take some."
Lin Xiaolu suggested: "That way, it will be easier to carry."
"Is that okay? Wasn't that guy defeated by you?"
Mint was somewhat unsure: "You say each should take some... Are you planning to let us have some of the points?"
"What else?" Lin Xiaolu gave her a strange look: "After all, we're in the same team, each other's scores also influence the team reward points. Is there any need to separate them so clearly?"
"Haha, we didn't contribute after all, this share of points feels a bit too hot to handle." Mint chuckled.
"Oh, about that, I really do have to thank you guys, count it as a favor you did me, Mint."
Lin Xiaolu looked at Bai Jingxuan again: "And thank you, Bo Xue."
"Suddenly thanking us for what?" Mint was puzzled.
"What do you think?"
The two exchanged glances for a while, finally Mint showed a helpless expression first.
"I said we shouldn't get so close." She looked at Bai Jingxuan: "As expected, even Bai Mei could notice us."
Bai Jingxuan ignored her.
Since Lin Xiaolu proactively suggested, the two didn't hesitate any longer and together divided these number tags that were snatched from Arrowroot Potato. The three then rested in place for a while, waiting for Lin Xiaolu to recover some magic power before deciding to move on.
There was still one day and one night left before the end of the examination, and the three had finally turned the tables, snatched back their number tags, and made quite a fortune. In an instant, they went from having nothing to being in a position to vie for top rankings. However, to truly achieve a good result, they couldn't slack off on the last day and needed to engage in more battles.
So next, they also had to take the initiative to seek out more other examinee teams.
Before setting out, the three confirmed their statuses with each other for the last time. Lin Xiaolu glanced at where she settled Arrowroot Potato, thought for a moment, and asked Mint: "Speaking of which, since those Beast Child came to the Kingdom with a mission, is the examination result really that important to them?"
"Hm? You're asking this?"
Mint was a bit confused: "To put it forcefully, at least the organization doesn't have any performance requirements for them."
"Then why was Arrowroot Potato snatching so many tags?"
Lin Xiaolu frowned: "Ordinarily, if it's for a mission, wouldn't it be better to avoid standing out too much? Ranking too high, what if it attracts the Kingdom's attention?"
"I don't know about that."
Mint scratched her head: "I'm not helping them cover up, just that I'm really just here for the exam. The factions within Black Ash Dawn are much more loose-knit than you imagine."
"Not from an organizational standpoint, but from a personal relationship standpoint?"
Lin Xiaolu looked at her: "You seem somewhat familiar with Arrowroot Potato? Based on your understanding of her, what's the reason?"
"Need I say more? How could it not be 'proving oneself stronger than others,' 'enjoying battle,' 'showcasing oneself' and other such boring reasons?"
Mint answered: "After all, that guy has always been so arrogant, using the organization's tool but privately acting driven by her sense of victory and loss is also possible."
"Is that so?"
"Perhaps so, but if it's not for these reasons, I actually have a somewhat bad guess."
Mint rubbed her chin: "It's also possible... they're not afraid of being discovered at all?"
