Chapter 658: Bounties 1

"It’s more of shape shifting than disguising." She said, and Jiang Yue furrowed his brows.

"What do you mean?" He asked, realising that he and Yu Nianzhen didn’t know enough about the foreign devils’ battlefield, although they had lived in the Cangxing world for thousands of years.

"Foreign devils eat human cultivators and can shift into the shape of those they eat." Yang Xu said with a solemn expression.

Hearing this, Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen exchanged a glance before turning to Yang Xu.

"Is the shape-shift permanent?" Jiang Yue asked, and Yang Xu shook his head before answering.

"Each shift lasts seven days. After that, the devil can no longer use the appearance of the eaten person." He said.

"Is there a way to differentiate between human cultivators and disguised devils?" Yu Nianzhen asked, and Wei Ling sighed.

"There is no way." She said and quickly continued.

"It’s because of this that we prepare soul cups for every person who enters the foreign devils’ battlefield. That way, we can prevent foreign devils from using the appearance of fallen soldiers to infiltrate our camp."

Jiang Yue nodded when he heard this.

’The foreign devils’ battlefield is more complicated than I expected.’ He thought and felt more gratitude towards the border guards who spent their entire lives on the battlefield.

"What’s the current layout of the battlefield?" Yang Xu asked, and Wei Ling nodded.

A moment later, she removed a map from her storage ring and laid it out on the table.

"We are here." She said, pointing at a place near the Northern border.

"This building is our headquarters. It has five floors, including a meeting room on the fifth floor, a soul cup hall on the fourth floor, a map room, a library, and many studies."

"In front of the headquarters is an exchange hall and a mission hall." She continued.

"The exchange hall has many things from the main world, which allows soldiers to conveniently replenish their pills, weapons, and other things."

"As for the mission hall, it has five floors."

"The first, second, and third floors have ordinary tasks including arranging formations, drawing talismans, forging weapons, and refining pills, among other things."

"On the contrary, the fourth and fifth floors are bounty halls.’

After saying this, Wei Ling sighed with a melancholic expression.

"The fourth floor has human bounties." She said.

"Human bounties?" Xiaolan asked with a confused expression.

"You would think that human cultivators would be united to resist the foreign devils, but that’s not the case." One of the elders said, and everyone turned to look at him.

"It’s not uncommon for human cultivators to betray our world and side with foreign devils." He said, and Yang Xu snorted with a disgusted expression.

"Traitors deserve to die." He said, and everyone agreed.

"The bounty posters of human traitors are on the fourth floor while those of foreign devils are on the fifth floor." Wei Ling said and continued.

"Bounties, whether of human traitors or foreign devils, are divided into three ranks – one star, two stars, and three stars."

"What’s the difference?" Jiang Yue asked, but Wei Ling and the others didn’t answer.

Instead, they exchanged a glance and nodded.

"Seniors, would you like to visit the mission hall? It will be easier to explain when we are there." Wei Ling asked, and the others immediately agreed.

Soon after, the group left the headquarters and went to the mission hall.

The mission hall was crowded and noisy, reminiscent of a market.

"Is it always so crowded?" Jiang Yue asked, and one of the elders nodded.

"There are millions of people on the battlefield, and fights happen every day." He said.

Without wasting time, the group of eleven found the stairs and climbed to the fourth floor.

Compared to the first three floors, the fourth floor had few people and was quieter.

After entering, Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen looked around and saw bounty posters on the East wall.

"So many?" Jiang Yue asked and frowned after counting more than one thousand bounty posters.

"Most of them were originally evil cultivators, but some were orthodox cultivators." Wei Ling said and began walking towards the wall.

Seeing this, everyone followed and stopped in front of the East wall.

"Seniors, this person is Fang Feng, an alchemist." Wei Ling started, pointing at a bounty poster.

The poster showed the image of an ordinary-looking male cultivator. However, his eyes had a trace of red which betrayed his evil nature.

"Why is he wanted?" Ao Tian asked.

"Although the battlefield is mostly barren, there are some special spiritual herbs that only grow here." An elder started and angrily clenched his hands.

"Fang Feng, that bastard, traded our deployment maps for the seven-leaf jade herb." He said.

"The seven-leaf jade herb is one of the rarest and most precious herbs on the battlefield. Unfortunately, it grows near the space fissure, and that place is controlled by the foreign devils." Wei Ling said.

"What’s the seven leaves jade herb used for?" Yu Nianzhen asked.

"It’s used to refine the dragon jade pill, a body tempering pill." Wei Ling answered and narrowed her eyes.

"Alchemists are usually weaker than other cultivators, and Fang Feng is weaker than normal. He probably feared the tribulation lightning and thought of supplementing his body with the dragon jade pill." She said.

Jiang Yue and the others frowned when they heard this.

"Why is such a person only a one-star bounty?" Yang Xu asked with a dissatisfied expression.

After all, deployment maps showed soldier positions and gave the enemy a big advantage when fighting.

"He is only a one-star bounty because the problem was discovered on time, and we didn’t suffer any losses. Also, the maps he stole were out of date." Wei Ling said.

"It’s good that we didn’t suffer losses, but his behaviour is unacceptable." Yang Xu said, and everyone agreed.

After all, although the maps were outdated, they were still a gold mine of intelligence for the enemy.

"Where is he now? Is he still on the battlefield?" Yu Nianzhen asked, and Wei Ling shook her head with a helpless expression.

"We don’t know. He disappeared before we noticed the problem, and no one has seen him for more than three hundred years." She said.
