Chapter 561: Lijia
"Take her to the hospital." She commanded.
Hearing that, Jiang Yue couldn’t help but be confused.
From everything that happened, it was clear that he, Yu Nianzhen, and Cheng Fang were not friends.
Given that, why would Ma Qing ask him to take Cheng Fang to the hospital?
Most importantly, the woman’s injuries were severe and she lost her baby.
If Jiang Yue took her to the hospital, they would likely have to deal with the police.
At that time, it would be good if Cheng Fang didn’t drag them into muddy waters.
’Is this damn woman trying to frame us?’ He sneered.
"Why should I? Her injuries have nothing to do with me." Jiang Yue refused.
"You are my family’s servant and must do what we tell you." Ma Linlin shouted and Jiang Yue snorted before he spoke.
"You are wrong. I am an employee, not a servant. My work description does not include these kinds of messy situations. If you want to take her to the hospital, you should do it yourself. After all, you are the ones who injured her." He argued with a mocking look in his eyes.
"You..." Ma Linlin started but her eldest sister held her back.
"If you don’t do what we ask, you can pack your things and leave." Ma Shishi said.
"My sister is right. A servant who can’t follow orders is useless." Ma Linlin said with a proud look.
"Madam Ma, let me take Cheng Fang to the hospital." Guan Mutong reverted everyone’s attention to the dying woman.
"She needs to see a doctor as soon as possible." Another worker said with a frown on their face.
"Everything else can come later."
Hearing this, the Ma women looked at each other.
Although they were impulsive and violent, they weren’t stupid.
After they calmed down, they realised they were in trouble.
After all, they had beaten Cheng Fang and caused her to lose her baby.
If the matter was reported to the police, they would have to lose money to make the case disappear.
"Mom, what should we do?" Ma Shishi whispered and Ma Linlin also looked at her mother in expectation.
"Take her to the hospital." Ma Qing commanded but her eyes were narrowed into slits.
Now that it had come to this, she needed someone to take the blame.
Originally, she wanted to frame the Jiang couple.
However, the Jiang couple weren’t easy to deceive.
After thinking about it, Ma Qing could only temporarily let them go.
"You know what to say and what not to say." She warned while looking at Guan Mutong.
"Don’t worry madam." Another employee thumped his chest and assured.
"Cheng Fang was beaten outside the factory. This matter has nothing to do with Madam Ma and the factory."
"Good."
After that, Guan Mutong and a few people carried Cheng Fang to the hospital.
When the group was out of the warehouse, Ma Qing finally turned her attention to the remaining employees.
"Quickly clean this mess." She commanded and a female employee rushed to do as she was asked.
Soon after, several people came together to clean Cheng Fang’s blood.
At the same time, Ma Qing turned to Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen.
Although she didn’t have an affair with her husband, Ma Qing didn’t like Yu Yue.
Most importantly, the Jiang couple were rude and didn’t know how to flatter her.
Thinking of everything that happened, Ma Qing didn’t want to keep the two in her family’s factory.
"Hurry up and leave." She shouted at the two.
At that, Jiang Yue sighed and Yu Nianzhen narrowed his eyes.
Although they planned to leave the factory, the time was not right.
However, things had come to this point and both felt they couldn’t stay.
Considering that, Yu Nianzhen winked at his husband and Jiang Yue subtly nodded.
"We can leave but..." Yu Nianzhen started and the Ma women turned to look at him.
"We did nothing wrong so the company must compensate us for lost work."
"Dreaming." Ma Linlin shouted with an angry look in her eyes.
"What do you mean you did nothing wrong?" Ma Shishi started and continued before anyone could say anything.
"You refused to take my mother’s orders."
"We refused to participate in a criminal activity." Jiang Yue emphasised, his eyes shining brighter than stars.
"What do you mean?" Ma Qing questioned; her eyes narrowed into slits.
"I think Madam Ma understands."
"You bastard! Are you..." Ma Shishi angrily shouted but Jiang Yue didn’t let her finish.
"There is no need to say more. My wife and I only need this and next month’s salary." He said.
Although Ma Qing didn’t want to lose so much money, she understood her position.
Compared to other workers, Jiang Zhen and Yu Yue were different.
They were young and had no families.
Because of this, they weren’t too attached to their jobs and could quit as soon as they said to quit.
If it were other employees, they wouldn’t act rashly and would willingly cooperate with her to cover up the crime. Only in this way could they keep their jobs and preserve their way of life.
Unfortunately, Jiang Zhen and Yu Yue were not desperate.
After thinking about it, Ma Qing felt she had no choice and quickly arranged for Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen to resign.
Three hours later, a moving van left the factory and Jiang Yue couldn’t help but sigh.
"At least we didn’t leave with nothing." He said and Yu Nianzhen nodded.
After paying for the moving van, they still had more than fifteen thousand yuan left from their severance pay.
Combined with their savings, they had enough money to sustain their life for several months.
"Are you sure you want to go to Lijia?" The van driver asked, curiously looking at Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen.
After all, young people usually moved from village to city instead of from city to village.
After so many years, this was the first time he encountered a young couple moving from city to village.
"We are sure." Jiang Yue clarified.
Although they worked most of the time, Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen sometimes walked around during the weekends.
It was during one of these walks they discovered Lijia.
Lijia was a small village located a few kilometres from Jialan city.
The village had less than one hundred households and most of the villagers were either young children or old people in their sixties and seventies.
Since the village had sufficient access to water, electricity, and internet, the two could work remotely without compromising their quality of life.
After considering their options, Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen felt Lijia was a good place to settle for the time being.
"Come to think of it, we need another laptop." Jiang Yue suddenly said and Yu Nianzhen immediately agreed.
Previously, they would take turns to use their laptop.
While one was on the laptop, the other would work from their phone.
However, such sharing was no longer cost-effective.
After all, they planned to earn a living from writing, coding, and stock trading.
"Driver, can we stop in the city for a moment?" Jiang Yue asked and the driver involuntarily frowned.
Originally, he didn’t plan to drive through the city.
However, the customer was king and he could do nothing but comply with the request.
"The parking cost will be on you." The driver reminded and Jiang Yue nodded.
Soon after, the van stopped in the city and Jiang Yue went to the computer shop.
An hour later, he not only returned with a laptop but also several bags of shopping.
"Since we are already here, I decided to buy what we need." He explained and Yu Nianzhen nodded in understanding.
"Good." He said.
Two hours later, the van arrived in Lijia and stopped in front of the chief’s house.
Hearing the roar of an engine, the chief came out of his house and couldn’t help but be surprised when he saw the Jiang couple.
"Young man, why aren’t you at work?" He asked and looked at Jiang Yue with disapproval.
"Grandpa Li, my wife and I have quit our jobs. We want to move here." Jiang Yue explained.
Hearing this, Grandpa Li frowned.
"Young people should work when they are young. Why did you quit?" He asked.
"Let’s talk about that later. Grandpa Li, we want to rent the house we saw last time."
At that, the old man shook his head in disapproval but still went into his house to retrieve the keys.
The house was at the edge of Lijia.
It was a small bungalow with one bedroom, one living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a store room.
Like every house in Lijia, it also had a small yard where the owner could keep chickens or grow vegetables.
"If I knew you were coming, I would have asked someone to clean the house." The old man said.
"Don’t worry about it. My wife and I will clean it." Jiang Yue said.
"The monthly rent is two hundred yuan." The old man reminded and Jiang Yue smiled.
After thinking about it, he and Yu Nianzhen planned to live in Lijia for a long time.
Considering that, Jiang Yue took out two thousand and five hundred yuan and gave it to the old man.
"This is this year’s rent." He said.
"Good. Good." The old man smiled from ear to ear and his attitude became more enthusiastic.
Soon after, everything was settled.
Jiang Yue and Yu Nianzhen moved into the house and began their busy but satisfying lives.
On weekdays, they would wake up at six in the morning.
After waking up, they would run around the village and return to their house before seven.
After that, Yu Nianzhen would practice with a self-carved wooden sword and Jiang Yue would watch him while playing a xiao.
Three hours later, they would have breakfast and start their work.
On weekends, the two would still practice and work, but they also took time to walk around and have fun.
In this way, time passed quickly, and before they knew it, it was already one year later.
