Chapter 40: A Belief in Truthfulness
"Unfortunately, this disciple does not have the blessing of following the esteemed elder in this life."
He looked at the fourth peak master and expressed regret, but he wasn’t really regretful.
Although supreme elder Yang made him angry, he didn’t hate the man.
In this situation where he had to choose without adequate information, Yu Nianzhen followed his instinct.
He felt more comfortable with supreme elder Yang than the fourth peak master, and his decision grew firmer after listening to them speak.
However, everyone fell silent when they heard his decision.
Other than Jiang Yue, who knew him well, everyone else expected Yu Nianzhen to choose the sword peak master.
"This junior..." The fat elder started, but he was stopped by the sect master.
Peak master Chu looked angry, and the sect master looked conflicted.
"Young lad, do you need more time to think about it?"
"This disciple can only have one master in this life. I have considered the matter seriously."
The elders looked unbelieving when they heard Yu Nianzhen’s words.
They all felt he would have chosen the fourth peak master if he had thought carefully.
After all, Chu Pengju was a swordsman!
Even though he did not have a sword origin, his accomplishments in swordsmanship could not be compared to Yang Xu who had never learned the sword.
However, the elders could not say too much, and they sighed in regret.
"Disciple, how did you make this decision?" This was asked by the female elder with a blindfold across her eyes.
She worried that Yu Nianzhen was wrongly influenced by Yang Xu’s past accomplishments.
If that was the case, it would be a waste of a good sword seedling.
Yu Nianzhen remained silent for a moment.
He did not dare say that he instinctively felt more comfortable about the supreme elder than the fourth peak master.
If he said that, he would most definitely offend the peak master. Unless necessary, he did not want to do that.
Yu Nianzhen considered a thousand explanations, and he eventually chose one.
"This disciple feels that he is fated with the supreme elder."
Yu Nianzhen said the words and immediately regretted it.
Jiang Yue’s face did not look good, and the elders were looking at him strangely.
Even supreme elder Yang was taken aback, and he looked at the boy weirdly.
"How so?" A choked voice asked.
"This young one fell into some trouble awhile back and strongly suggested that his master is an origin tempering realm cultivator."
The platform fell into silence.
Cultivators were very concerned about fate, but wasn’t this ridiculous?
What kind of far-fetched fate was this?
Yang Xu could not hold it, and he burst into laughter while Jiang Yue did his best not to do the same.
He expected that Yu Nianzhen would choose the supreme elder, but he did not expect him to come up with such a reason.
After all, he was the one who lied about having a master at the origin tempering realm.
"The elders may not know, but my given name is Nianzhen."
"Nian Zhen with the meaning of "a belief in truthfulness."
"Because of this name, I try not to lie. Meeting the supreme elder is the fated chance to correct my past wrongdoing."
Peak master Chu stood up, glared at Yu Nianzhen in anger, and flew away from the West Lake.
The other elders had incredible looks on their faces as they looked at him.
How to deal with this ridiculous situation?
The worst part was that Yu Nianzhen spoke these ridiculous things with an indifferent look on his face.
Because of this, they could not decide whether he believed in what he was saying or if his words were just an excuse.
Either way, the outcome was decided, and it could not be changed.
"I also believe that we are fated." Yang Xu spoke, and the elders became gloomier.
After this strange turn, the test came to an end.
Inner sect disciples returned to the inner sect, outer sect disciples went to the outer sect courtyards, odd job disciples went to the back mountain, and the personal disciples followed their masters to the inner sect.
"Are you feeling reluctant?"
Yang Xu noticed that his new disciple was looking at the new disciple of the sect master’s wife.
His disciple had an indifferent face, but when he looked at that boy’s back, his eyes were very unwilling.
"This disciple is ready to leave."
Although he was sad, Yu Nianzhen did not want to talk about it.
He was not familiar with his master, and he had never liked being close to other people.
Also, this was only a temporary separation.
They could visit each other, and when they figured things out, they would find a courtyard to live together.
Yang Xu snorted when he heard his disciple’s reply, but he didn’t ask more.
Instead, he waved his hand, and a Firebird came out of his animal storage bag.
The Firebird was ten metres long, and when its wings were extended, its width was about seven metres.
"Get on."
Yu Nianzhen hesitated for a moment but got on in the end.
He thought that the bird would be hot, but to his surprise, the temperature was normal.
He found a place to sit, and Yang Xu stood next to him.
After they settled down, the Firebird took off and headed towards the inner sect.
The Firebird flew faster than the tiger eagle he rode to the Sea Cloud Sect, and Yu Nianzhen didn’t have a chance to admire the scenery.
However, he had a passing view of the surroundings, and he couldn’t help but be impressed.
The outer sect was almost fifty kilometres long, and the inner sect was ten times the outer sect.
Contrary, the core region was smaller than the outer sect, but the heaven and earth qi was several times richer than the inner sect.
"Are you glad that you chose to be this seat’s disciple?" Yang Xu asked when they arrived at Yang Mountain.
His tone was proud, and he had the meaning of presenting a treasure to a ’lucky’ bastard.
Yu Nianzhen rolled his eyes, but he didn’t say anything.
He was indeed fortunate to choose Yang Xu as his master!
As a supreme elder, Yang Xu’s mountain was in the core region, and the mountain’s aura was especially rich.
However, he wasn’t going to say these things to his new master.
He had a feeling that supreme elder Yang would go to heaven if given a little compliment.
Instead, he turned a determined look at Yang Xu.
"What’s with that look?"
Yang Xu was taken aback.
This disciple did not like speaking, but he had a very strong look.
"If the master doesn’t mind, this disciple would like to request an extra mountain token."
Yu Nianzhen was ’requesting’, but he had already extended his hand to receive the token.
This token was the entry token to Yang Mountain, and without it, even the sect master could not enter the mountain.
After arriving at the mountain, Yu Nianzhen realised that his master lived alone.
There were four courtyards on the mountain peak, and his master lived in the South courtyard.
Yu Nianzhen chose to live in the west courtyard and planned to bring Jiang Yue over.
Since the conditions were ideal, there was no reason to lease a courtyard at another mountain.
"Master can take the token as an apology for flirting with his disciple’s future dao companion."
Yang Xu was bitter.
How did he choose such a disciple?
Other masters’ disciples were tripping over themselves to respect their masters. How about his disciple?
Yang Xu had a vague feeling that his disciple was more arrogant than he was.
In the end, he had no choice but to give the token.
He snorted angrily, but he was somewhat relieved.
He had taken a disciple on a whim and was worried that they couldn’t get along.
Thankfully, he worried too much.
"Go to your courtyard and prepare for the master ceremony."
"Yes, master."
Yu Nianzhen bowed and went to his courtyard.
The courtyard covered an area of one hundred metres and was divided into many rooms.
Most of the rooms were empty, but a few were equipped with stone beds and other furniture.
Yu Nianzhen chose the innermost room which had a jade bed, a large wooden chest, and a stone table with two stools.
The room had a door that led to a large pool, and he immediately went to this room.
He removed his clothes and sunk into the pool filled with ice cold water.
"I need to soak for three days and nights before the master ceremony."
Yu Nianzhen had previously read about the master ceremony, and he knew what he needed to do.
In these three days, he was supposed to soak and self-reflect.
He had to think about his future and what it meant to worship a master.
Although the beginning was not ideal, Yu Nianzhen took this matter very seriously.
