Chapter 188: Marriage is Impossible
When he heard Yang Xu’s words, sect master Wen sighed. He could tell that Yang Xu was feigning confusion.
However, it was not the right place or time to call him out on it, and he was forced to go along with the play.
"Uncle master has misunderstood." He said.
"What is the misunderstanding?"
"The marriage proposal is not for the uncle master but for junior Yu and junior Jiang."
Yang Xu frowned when he heard this.
Although he expected it, he was still unhappy. After all, the sect had no right to get involved with the marriage of its disciples.
Fortunately, the boys had left, and their marriage was already settled. Even if the sect wanted to arrange marriages for them, there was nothing they could do.
However, Yang Xu was not naïve to think that the sect would let the matter go.
After all, Lin Huang had made her intentions clear before the children exited the thousand herbs garden.
In this situation, the sect would conclude that the two boys disregarded the sect’s interests and selfishly got married.
’It will be difficult for the two boys after this.’ Yang Xu thought and sighed.
However, Yu Nianzhen was his disciple, and Jiang Yue was as good as one. No matter what, he wouldn’t allow the sect to treat them badly.
After another sigh, his eyes turned cold, and his demeanour changed before he spoke.
"If that’s the case, I have to apologise to the elders of the Beast region." He said and looked at the delegation from the beast region.
The delegation was made of two male and three female cultivators. One was in the nascent soul realm, two were in the core formation realm, and the remaining two were in the origin tempering realm.
From their clothes, it was clear that their background was not simple.
However, Yang Xu didn’t care about that.
Even if the relationship between the beast region and the Sea Cloud territory soured because of this, it had nothing to do with him.
After all, Nianzhen and Jiang Yue were not beholden to the sect.
The favour they received from the sect was not enough to justify the sacrifice of allowing the sect to choose their Taoist companions.
"What does the supreme elder mean?" One of the guests asked.
The speaker was one of the females, and her cultivation was at the mid-level of the core formation realm.
"My disciple has long had a fiancée, and they held the Taoist ceremony as soon as they turned twenty-one." Yang Xu explained, and the hall went silent.
The atmosphere cooled down, and several eyes bored into Yang Xu’s body.
"The princess of our beast region should have informed your disciple that we would come to propose marriage." This was spoken by the other core formation realm cultivator of the beast region.
From his tone, it was clear that he disliked and looked down on this mission to the Sea Cloud territory.
Unfortunately, Yang Xu was not in the mood to hold anybody’s hand and care for their feelings.
"My disciple and junior Jiang should also have informed the princess that they have fiancées."
Elder Chen had a bad face when she heard Yang Xu’s words.
When the delegates arrived, she thought the matter would soon be settled.
However, she didn’t expect that her disciple left the sect without saying a word. More importantly, his identity jade was not in the secret hall, and the sect couldn’t use it to find him.
After all that, she now discovered that her disciple had a fiancée and never said anything about it.
’What a good disciple.’ She thought, and her eyes turned cold.
Chen Qing took him in because he had an illusion-related origin. Unfortunately, his element was water instead of fire.
Even more unfortunate, Jiang Yue was not interested in alchemy. This outcome dampened her original interest in him, and he became just another existence on her third peak.
’I will deal with him when he returns.’ She thought and glared at Yang Xu.
She knew the soul jades of the two juniors were removed from the secret hall by Yang Xu.
However, this was not against sect rules.
It was common for masters to keep the soul jades of their direct disciples. In this way, they would immediately know when something happened to their disciples.
Unfortunately, Chen Qing ignored Jiang Yue’s existence, and Yang Xu took advantage.
Although she had the right to ask for Jiang Yue’s identity jade, she couldn’t do it in front of other elders and the cultivators from the beast region.
"Our princess means to challenge the fiancées of the two husbands." One of the delegates spoke.
This delegate was the nascent soul realm cultivator, and her tone was authoritative.
She took it as a matter of course that the princess of the beast region would have her way in this matter.
"This matter is impossible. My disciple’s Taoist companion is junior Jiang." Yang Xu told the truth, and the hall fell silent before the female spoke again.
"In that case, the matter is easy to handle. Since the two are Taoist companions, they can collectively marry our beast region princess."
"You princess was defeated by my disciple and junior Jiang. What right does she have to marry them?" Yang Xu sneered.
He hated how the cultivators from the beast region looked down on his two children.
They looked like they were doing Nianzhen and Jiang Yue a favour by allowing them to marry the princess.
However, in his eyes, Lin Huang was not worthy of his two boys. She was just a pig trying to eat swan meat.
"Are you looking down on our princess?" One of the delegates asked, and his face was not good.
The others also looked angry, but they kept their tempers in check.
"I merely mean that the situation is contradictory. Your princess wants to marry my disciple and disciple-in-law because they defeated her. However, they are unwilling to marry her, but she has to challenge their fiancées to grab them. Unfortunately, she can’t beat them, which brings us back to the original point."
Yang Xu did not mince his words, and even the sect master was shocked.
He disliked his uncle master and wanted him to antagonise the beast region.
However, this was on the premise that the relationship between the beast region and the sea cloud region wouldn’t suffer.
With the way things were going, not only would the beast region have a dispute with Yang Xu, but they would also form a grudge against the sea cloud territory.
If that happened, the sea cloud region would fail to make an ally and gain an enemy instead.
’I have to ease the matter.’ He thought and sighed.
"Uncle master, contact the two juniors and let them return to the sect." Sect master Wen said.
Yang Xu narrowed his eyes and sneered.
"Sect master, marriage should follow fate."
"The sect master doesn’t know that my disciple and disciple-in-law were born on the same day, of the same month and year. They have been together since they were born."
"From this, it is clear that their fates have long been entangled, and there is no space for third parties between them."
Yang Xu smiled when he said that, and the sect master almost vomited blood.
’Is this bastard calling the precious princess of the beast region a third party?’ He thought and turned a cautious look at the guests.
As expected, the five looked ugly, and two of them looked like they wanted to fight Yang Xu. The only thing stopping them was the fact that Yang Xu was still a supreme elder of the Sea Cloud sect.
If not for that, they would have already attacked the man and made him unable to speak nonsense.
"Uncle master is right; marriage should follow fate. Unfortunately, the beast princess does not have this fate with the two juniors of our Sea Cloud sect." Someone suddenly said, and everyone turned to look at the fifth elder.
Her body still looked like a golden stature, but her face was unexpectedly solemn.
She disliked the attitude of the guests and didn’t understand why they had to insist on a matter that shouldn’t be forced in the first place.
"That may be the case, but we will wait for the two juniors to return before we settle the matter." The sect master spoke and gave the fifth elder a warning look.
"Uncle master, can you contact the two children?" The seventh elder asked.
Everyone turned to look at Yang Xu, and he sneered in his heart.
He could see what they were thinking, but he would never allow their plans to go through.
Although he suspected that the two boys formed an unbreakable Taoist bond, those with intentions would not rest until they found a way around it.
Yang Xu was worried that the two boys would suffer if they returned to the sect, so he didn’t plan to cooperate with the sect on this matter.
"This is impossible." He answered.
