Chapter 65: Late Night Visit (II)

Rosalie:

I opened the door and immediately froze.

For a second my brain simply stopped processing what my eyes were seeing. Two familiar figures stood under the soft yellow light outside my porch.

Zaiden and Eiden.

The two Alphas stood there like this was completely normal. Like showing up at someone’s house at eleven at night wasn’t strange at all. Like they didn’t belong in huge packhouses, expensive offices, and places that screamed power and influence instead of standing outside my small rented house. Neither of them looked uncomfortable. Neither looked rushed. They simply stood there and looked at me.

I stared.

They stared back.

The silence stretched awkwardly. My heart started beating faster. Not because I was scared. Just... unexpected. That was the word.

Eiden finally smiled lightly and broke the silence. "Can we come inside?"

I blinked at him before realization hit me. I quickly stepped aside. "Y-yeah. Of course."

Both men stepped inside, and once they did, my eyes immediately shifted outside again on pure instinct and quickly scanned the street. This neighborhood wasn’t bustling and most of my neighbors here went to sleep early. So since it’s already nearing midnight, there was no one outside to witness their Alpha and Eiden arriving at my house.

Fortunately, there was no one walking down the street either.

Good.

The last thing I needed was gossip about Zaiden and Eiden visiting me in the middle of the night.

After making sure nobody seemed to notice, I quickly closed the door and turned around, only to nearly jump. The two of them were standing right there and watching me. The expressions on their faces almost made it seem like they found my behavior amusing.

My heart almost leaped into my throat before I forced myself to calm down.

I cleared my throat and then gestured toward the living room. "Please have your seats."

The men exchanged a quick look between them before they moved quietly toward the couches and settled down. I followed after them, noticing immediately how their presence made my living room look so much smaller. Somehow their presence changed the space, and the room that felt spacious while I was alone suddenly felt crowded.

I stayed standing for a moment and watched as both men slowly looked around the ground floor. Their eyes moved over everything - the shelves, the curtains, the plants, the kitchen, the rearranged furniture, and every little thing.

Even Eiden, who had already visited this place before I moved in here and was even the one who organized this house, was busy looking around carefully. And then, the corners of his mouth curved into a small and warm smile that was barely noticeable.

His gaze returned to me as he spoke, "You have done a great job making the house yours."

I blinked at him and then looked around too. It wasn’t until I noticed the changes I had made over the past few days did I understood what he’s talking about. A smile slowly appeared on my face.

It had been nearly a week since I moved in here, and most of that time had gone into changing things. I didn’t buy anything since I couldn’t afford it. I had no money at all right now. So I just stuck to moving things, shifting furniture, and changing placements.

I brought in plants from my small front garden, reorganized shelves, changed the kitchen setup, and added tiny touches like I learned from my mom growing up.

It wasn’t anything crazy, but enough that this place stopped feeling temporary. Enough that when I walked inside, it felt like mine.

I looked at Eiden and smiled. "Thank you."

His brows lifted slightly.

I continued, "For saying that." Then after a second I added, "And for the house."

His expression softened.

I looked around again and then quietly admitted, "I really love it here." My smile widened slightly as my eyes drifted toward the window before returning to him. "The wisteria tree especially. I didn’t expect to love the house this much."

Eiden watched me quietly and then he suddenly asked-

"And us?"

Everything stopped.

My smile disappeared. My heart skipped. And I looked at him at complete shock.

"Huh?"

My voice came out embarrassingly small.

His eyes stayed on me. But he seemed to be staring right into my soul. And suddenly, my heartbeat became impossible to ignore. And for one terrifying second, my brain interpreted the question very differently. My face immediately started heating.

Then Zaiden quietly cleared his throat.

Eiden blinked, and suddenly looked like he realized something. His expression shifted and then he calmly corrected, "I meant whether we are bothering you." His expression stayed innocent. Too innocent. "By arriving this late."

Oh right. That.

I immediately looked away.

Stupid heart!

I forced a smile and shook my head. "No." Then quickly added, "It’s alright."

I hesitated before finally asking, "But why are you here? Did you need something?"

Both of them exchanged a quick glance before Eiden turned his attention back to me and answered, "We were out for a run."

I nodded automatically.

Then he continued, "And ended up in town. So we thought we would check on you."

I blinked. Then my gaze slowly dropped, from his face to his clothes. Then it moved over to Zaiden. The later was wearing a black tailored suit that fit him perfectly, and ther wasn’t a single wrinkle in sight. And the former wore a dark olive shirt tailored in his unique preferred style with lack slacks. He looked elegant, expensive, and neat.

Both looked like they stepped out of a luxury magazine, and not like two people who had gone for a run.

I slowly raised my eyes as I looked at them.

Eiden followed my gaze and Zaiden did too. Both looked down at themselves, and suddenly their expressions changed like they realized. But it was already too late. The excuse sounded ridiculous.

Eiden looked away first.

But Zaiden looked entirely unbothered.

I stared at them. Then suddenly, I smiled. Then laughed. Not loudly though. But I failed to hold it in. Because somehow, the image of these two powerful men wearing expensive suits and claiming they had gone running was too much.

Eiden sighed softly. But Zaiden remained expressionless. Which only made it worse.

I pressed my lips together, still smiling.

And then, Zaiden finally looked at me, looking completely serious like nothing strange had happened. Then he asked, "Can we have something for dinner?"
