Chapter 50: Being Carried By The Alpha
Rosalie:
The staircase leading up to the entrance seemed endless.
The closer we got, the more impressive the building became. Towering windows glowed with golden light. Black stone walls rose several stories high. Everything about the place radiated elegance and power.
When we finally stepped through the entrance, warmth immediately engulfed me. The difference was so dramatic that I almost sighed aloud.
Bright chandeliers illuminated the enormous foyer. Polished marble floors stretched in every direction. The air smelled faintly of cedarwood and something expensive I couldn’t identify.
For a moment, I simply stared. But the moment my gaze dropped to the floor, panic hit me.
Water was dripping from my still wet clothes. My shoes were soaked. My hair was still damp. And I was currently standing in what looked like one of the most pristine places I had ever seen.
I immediately froze.
Absolutely not. There was no way I was taking another step. I would ruin the floor.
I already felt guilty for standing here. Walking further seemed criminal. So I stayed exactly where I was. Motionless.
A very confused silence followed as Eiden stopped beside me. I could feel his confused gaze searching my face.
"Rosalie?"
I stubbornly continued staring at the floor.
Another few seconds passed. Then realization dawned across his face.
I looked up just in time to see understanding replace confusion. For a moment, he simply stared at me. Then, to my horror, the familiar sight of amusement appeared again.
"We should have gone with my help."
My eyes widened. "What-" I didn’t even get the chance to finish. One moment I was standing on the floor. And the next, the floor vanished completely.
A startled gasp escaped me as strong arms slid beneath my knees and around my back. With impossible ease, Eiden lifted me straight into his arms. And just like that, I found myself staring at him in complete shock while he held me as though I weighed absolutely nothing.
Meanwhile, the moment my feet left the ground, pure horror took over.
My eyes widened so much they almost hurt as I stared up at Eiden in disbelief. For a second, I couldn’t even form words. Then my brain finally caught up with reality.
"E-Eiden," I whispered urgently, trying very hard not to raise my voice. "Put me down."
My gaze immediately darted around the enormous foyer in panic and I frantically searched every corner of the entrance hall, only to pause in confusion.
Nobody was there. Not a single person. The servants who had been standing near the entrance moments ago had vanished completely. It was as though they had melted into the walls the second Eiden picked me up.
The vast foyer stood silent and empty.
There were no curious looks, no shocked expressions, and no witnesses. Just me and Eiden.
For some reason, that realization didn’t make things better. If anything, it made them worse. Because now that I wasn’t busy dying from anxiety over being seen, I became painfully aware of everything else.
Of how close we were. Of how effortlessly he carried me. Of how my wet clothes were pressed against his equally damp ones. Of the warmth radiating from his body.
Every place where we touched seemed unnaturally sensitive. His arm beneath my knees. The other supporting my back. The steady rise and fall of his chest. And worst of all, the way I could hear his heartbeat - strong, calm, and steady.
The complete opposite of mine.
My heart seemed determined to throw itself down a mountain. I focused on breathing. Then immediately failed at breathing normally.
Goddess help me.
Exhaustion wasn’t helping either. Everything felt foggy. Too intense. Too overwhelming. So I did the only thing I could. I forced myself to focus on my surroundings instead.
The mansion helped.Mostly because it was impossible not to stare.
Eiden climbed staircase after staircase while carrying me as though I weighed absolutely nothing. We passed enormous windows, elegant paintings, and hallways so large they could have belonged in a royal palace. Warm golden lighting illuminated dark wood and black stone, creating an atmosphere that somehow felt both luxurious and intimidating.
The deeper we went into the mansion, the quieter everything became. There were no voices, no footsteps. Nothing. Only the soft sound of Eiden’s steps echoing through the corridors.
Eventually he turned down another hallway before stopping outside a closed door.
I barely had time to register it before the door opened without any knocking. Probably because the person on the other side had clearly been expecting us.
Zaiden stood in the doorway. And even at this ridiculous hour of the night, he looked perfectly put together.
My gaze immediately dropped to the black suit he wore. It was oerfectly tailored, fitting him like meant to be. There wasn’t a single wrinkle in sight.
Meanwhile I looked like a swamp creature that had lost a fight against a hurricane.
Life was unfair.
His dark eyes first landed on Eiden first before shifting to me. For a brief moment, his gaze traveled over my appearance - the mud, the soaked clothes, the tangled hair, and probably the fact that I was currently being carried through his mansion.
His expression didn’t change. Not even slightly. But something sharpened in his eyes, like a quiet assessment, the kind that missed absolutely nothing.
Then, without a word, he stepped aside, allowing us inside.
Curiosity immediately sparked within me and I tried to get a better look at the room. Unfortunately, the space remained mostly hidden in shadows.
The only source of light seemed to be a single bedside lamp positioned near a large bed. Its warm glow illuminated only part of the room, leaving the rest draped in darkness.
I wanted to look around. Wanted to figure out whose room this was. Wanted to understand why we were here. But apparently neither Alpha had any intention of satisfying my curiosity. Instead, both of them headed directly toward another door.
The bathroom.
I barely had time to process that before Eiden carried me inside.
The room was almost as large as my entire bedroom back at Blackthorn Pack. Marble, glass, dark stones - everything looked ridiculously expensive.
Then, finally, Eiden set me down. Not on the floor, but on the bathroom counter.
I blinked in surprise as my feet dangled over the edge. And before I could ask what was happening, Zaiden moved past us. He walked toward the massive bathtub, turned on the water, and began preparing a bath.
