Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Sarah
Akaris and Oriana went inside the city, it wasn’t a luxurious city, bones littered the street and malnourished people were everywhere.
Especially humans, they were more numerous than others but also living in the worst conditions.
Akaris used inspect and realised most were around level 1 to level 4, that made no sense to him.
With those levels, how did they even manage to get inside a trial, let alone walk all way here.
They should not have been able to survive the journey to this city when they were so weak.
He said nothing and moved towards the centre of the city, the houses started getting a bit better but still looked shabby.
A second wall appeared in front of them, before they could go through, they were stopped in front of the gate.
" No humans allowed." He looked at the people who stopped them, one looked like the giant guy they saw before.
But he was much weaker, the other had green skin like a goblin but he was certainly not a goblin.
Name: Seryu
Race: Galack
Level: 8( 85%)
Bloodline: Galack (impure)
Akaris didn’t even bother checking his stats, the moment those two looked at him with disdain he pulled his bow.
He was ready to kill them when that woman showed up again, she grabbed their arms and pulled them away.
" Hello, I’m Sarah, come with me."
" Why’d you stop us?" Oriana asked coldly, Sarah smiled bitterly.
" Which domain are you from? Or perhaps you’re from a new world?" Her question made the two of them look at each other.
They had zero idea what she was talking about, " I see, it’s a new world then, I guess it makes sense why you don’t know.
I’m pretty sure you two are strong but you have to understand, you’re human, untill you get your class, you’re no match for races with bloodlines.
They’re born with innate abilities." She led them towards another part of the city, the houses here were just as bad.
Some were made from wood, some from stone and mud but all of them looked like they can barely hold on.
Both Oriana and Akaris frowned, " Can’t you lot build better housing?" Akaris finally asked.
Even if they were discriminated against, they could at least fix their own houses instead of living in these shacks.
Sarah smiled bitterly, " We’d love to but the moment we do they come and destroy those houses.
According to them us lowly humans deserve to live like pigs." Her voice sounded bitter like she was resigned to her fate.
Akaris didn’t say anything, he wasn’t going to convince them to fight back, if they’re not willing to fight for their fate, that is on them.
They reached a better looking house and went inside "This is my house, you can stay here tonight."
She was about to leave when he stopped her, " Why are you helping us? you don’t know us and don’t give me the crack about humans sticking together."
Sarah smiled, " Go to sleep." She left DND closed the door, neither of them were able to sleep.
That woman was suspicious, Sarah went to another house where her friend lived, her friend opened the door and was surprised to see her.
Sarah told her she needed a place to crash for the night, when her friend asked she told her others were sleeping in her place.
Of course this made her friend furious thinking she was being bullied but she explained.
Sarah went to sleep with a smile, she had never told anybody this but Sarah was born with special eyes.
Sarah was technically blind, she had never told anybody this and always pretended she could see.
But the truth was that she was using an artefact, it was placed inside her ears allowing her to use echo location.
She could perceive the world around her through echoes, almost like a bat but it wasn’t that her eyes didn’t work at all.
She could see the world as strings, or more accurately fate, she could perceive the fate of living beings.
She rarely uses this ability since it places a heavy burden on her and seeing the fate of others knowing you can’t change it was never fun.
The first time she met these two, she used it and what she saw gave her hope, both were like walking lamps.
Their fate blazed so high it almost blinded her, however that wasn’t the only reason she approached them.
After all people’s fate was their own but those two were different, especially the man.
His fate seemed to stretch out endlessly, with her power she couldn’t see all of it or the specifics.
But when she gave them those coins she saw her own dark fate lighting up a little and knew they were her hope.
She closed her eyes and went to sleep, the next morning she woke up to find them waiting for her.
" We have a few questions." That was the first thing they said without even greeting her.
" Good morning to you too, ask away." She sat down.
" One, I thought only humans had classes, so why are there other races in this trial?" Akaris asked, he was genuinely confused by that.
" You’re from a really young world aren’t you? You’ve never even had interactions with other races."
" Just answer the fucken question." Oriana growled impatiently.
" The trial is a test, it isn’t exclusive to humans, while for us it does hold more importance as it determines our path.
For them, it merely a huddle they need to pass, they have bloodlines which is like classes to us.
However to level up past level 9, they also need to pass these trials, instead of gaining classes though.
They would upgrade their bloodline or more specifically fully awaken them, even so, having those partially awakened bloodlines makes them much stronger than us."
They both nodded, " Second question, why are there people below level 9 here, shouldn’t you reach the peak of level 9 before entering a trial?"
" Not necessarily, you can enter the trials anytime you want as long as there’s an abyss anchor nearby.
Of course nobody does that, those people you saw, they were born here."
