Chapter 401: Chapter 99: Pessimism
The gray white dragon’s wanton massacre left the legendary demons bewildered and terrified, each resorting to their own means to frantically flee the place.
Most of the legendary demons fled north.
That’s where the demon headquarters of Black Smoke City was established at their initial descent.
"The Gate of the Abyss should be there," Udi thought to himself, and the gray-white dragon body merged into the space, disappearing from sight.
Void Travel.
In just a moment, the battlefield’s situation changed dramatically.
To the south, the five Ghost Kings exchanged glances, deeply worried.
"This..." The Green Ghost King’s throat was somewhat dry, unsure of what to say.
"What should we do next?" The Frost Ghost King licked his pale lips, unable to sit still.
The demons of Black Smoke City still had a retreat path, they could flee to the Gate of the Abyss and leave this place.
But the ghost race had no retreat; they lacked the ability to teleport and leave this plane.
No matter how much they run and hide, they could only remain on this plane.
The five Ghost Kings and other legendary powerhouses of the ghost race had clearly foreseen the fate awaiting them and their race.
It’s no wonder they were so pessimistic; faced with the gray white dragon that killed the three demon commanders like squashing ants, they couldn’t see even a glimmer of hope for victory.
The Green Ghost King, Frost Ghost King, White Ghost King, and Red Ghost King all turned to their race’s strategist—the Purple Demon Ghost King.
As members of the weak-bodied Purple Demon Ghost race, they possessed strong psychic superpowers, making their brains extremely active and quick-thinking.
And as the king of the Purple Demon Ghost race, in terms of cognitive ability, the Purple Demon Ghost King was top-notch.
Under the gaze of the four kings, the Purple Demon Ghost King frowned slightly, and with quick thinking, immediately proposed two plans,
"Two options: the first plan is to surrender to the dragon. Based on the information I’ve gathered from the demon brains, the Giant Dragon Race mainly comprises lords, and they particularly like subduing strong creatures and races as followers. This plan seems the optimal solution for now. The cost is that we become servants, but the benefit is avoiding extinction and possibly venturing to other planes.
The second plan, if the dragon doesn’t accept our surrender, is to gather each race’s holy artifacts in the Green Ghost race’s territory. With the Holy Tree’s defense capabilities and the holy artifacts of the other four tribes, along with the cooperation of our five tribes’ dozens of legendary powerhouses, we might be able to withstand the dragon."
Seeing the four Ghost Kings slightly moved by the second plan, the Purple Demon Ghost King immediately warned,
"I must remind you, once you choose the second plan, we’re merely prey trapped in a cage, eventually getting slaughtered by the dragon."
These words slightly sobered the four Ghost Kings.
Indeed, the restrictions of the plane meant that upon reaching Legendary Tier Two, they couldn’t break through any further. However, the dragon could still grow stronger and expand its methods... Even if their tier was limited to the same as theirs, witnessing the dreadful might of the dragon today left the Ghost Kings extremely pessimistic.
Furthermore, safeguarding a territory merely a thousand square kilometers in size, even if they manage to hold it, how could they develop? Especially since the Green Ghost race’s territory best suited the Green Ghost race’s survival, less so for Red Ghosts and Purple Demon Ghosts, and significantly less for White Ghosts and Frost Ghosts.
The former are large-sized, ranging from meters to tens of meters, needing food that the small territory of the Green Ghost race couldn’t provide.
The latter feed on frost, and if they were to stay in the Green Ghost race’s forest territory for long, probably only the legendary Frost Ghosts could sustain themselves.
"Start with the second plan first, then consider the first plan," urged the Purple Demon Ghost King.
Though the Ghost Kings were heavy-hearted, they quickly acted.
Fortunately, due to the war with Black Smoke City’s demons, most of the strong members of the five Great Ghost Clans were gathered on the battlefield, making the retreat much more convenient.
As for the hundreds of millions of ordinary ghost race members... they continued to fight the demon army.
Obviously, they had become cannon fodder, abandoned.
As the elite powerhouses of the five Great Ghost Clans withdrew, on the Silver Moon Desert, amidst the chaos, the demon army of Black Smoke City began to dominate, slaughtering countless low-level ghost race members, harvesting souls, and devouring flesh.
This scene was observed by the Gray-White Descendants, under the command of the strongest among them, powerful enough to rival Legendary powerhouses. As a result, the previously chaotic and wanton slaughter by the Gray-White Descendants quickly turned into low roars, with all of them charging at the demon army, especially targeting those Great Demon-level powerhouses.
But their aim wasn’t to kill the Great Demons; instead, they sought to capture them as much as possible.
After all, these would become their ’companions’ in future battles.
....
Udi concealed himself within the void, closely trailing alongside the legendary demons.
Back in Tal, the Dark Frost Giant Lord had summoned a large number of demon armies. Initially, Udi wasn’t sure what was going on, as his Dragon’s Legacy lacked such information.
But this didn’t trouble Udi; if his Dragon’s Legacy didn’t have it, then perhaps other True Dragons might.
The twenty-something young dragons in the Black Wing Nest were unreliable due to their weak strength and shallow comprehension of Dragon’s Legacy information. Eventually, Udi managed to get in touch with the reclusive Female Red Dragon from the Crimson Nest, who disappeared with the Mother of Deep Red, obtaining information about this.
It turns out the Demon Lord of the Abyss recklessly invaded the Material Plane leveraging the might of the Gate of the Abyss.
To activate the Gate of the Abyss requires the Abyssal Heart.
The Abyssal Heart is extremely precious, and a weak Abyss Lord generally possesses only one, which is used to construct their Abyssal City on the Abyss Plane. Often, only powerful Abyss Lords possess a second or more Abyssal Hearts.
Those Abyss Lords with spare Abyssal Hearts form the main invasion force of the Star Realm Material Plane.
"I want this Abyssal Heart," Udi’s gray-white dragon eyes flashed with determination.
Whether it’s unrestricted teleportation of troops or establishing an Abyssal City, both are what Udi yearns for.
The former would spread the Void Power more rapidly, while the latter would grant Udi a trump card.
Within the Abyssal City, an Abyss Lord’s power would receive a substantial boost.
While contemplating, chasing after the legendary demons, Udi finally saw the Gate of the Abyss positioned at Black Smoke City’s base on the Ghost Race Plane.
A fifty-meter-tall, pitch-black giant gate emitting thick negative energy hovers dozens of meters above the ground, with masses of demon soldiers still pouring out from the portal.
