Chapter 1051: 703 Hard to grasp_2

"It’s so amazing," Wu Shengnan said, slightly excited as she looked down at the B-ultrasound report in her hand.

She had known she was pregnant and Du Heng had confirmed it. But aside from her missed menstrual period and some slight discomfort, she hadn’t felt much else.

However, seeing the B-ultrasound report in her hand, the black-and-white image on the paper, suddenly made it feel different.

In contrast to Wu Shengnan’s excitement, Du Heng seemed rather indifferent. He’d seen too many of these images; even looking at his own child now, he couldn’t muster much excitement.

Still, the expected happiness was there, especially watching Wu Shengnan. Du Heng’s smile was almost goofy.

They laughed all the way back to Du Heng’s office.

"Luo, why didn’t you call me when you arrived?" As soon as Wu Shengnan reached the office door and saw the woman standing there, she quickly stuffed what she was holding into Du Heng’s hands and hurried over to greet her.

The woman, Luo, was only a few years older than Wu Shengnan, not even thirty yet. But being addressed so familiarly by Wu Shengnan made her feel a bit matronly.

Luo smiled gently, taking Wu Shengnan’s hand, and whispered, "I knew you were at your prenatal examination and it would be inconvenient, so I didn’t call. Besides, I only just got here, barely a moment ago."

As she spoke, Luo glanced, perhaps intentionally, at Wu Shengnan’s lower abdomen before quickly looking away. She smiled and asked, "The check-up is done? How did it go?"

Wu Shengnan’s recently suppressed excitement surged up again, her emotions plain on her face.

Du Heng, seeing all this, coughed lightly. Before Wu Shengnan could speak, he interjected, "Officer Luo, hello. Please, come into the office and we can talk there."

As he led them into his office, Du Heng subtly gestured to Wu Shengnan with his eyes.

Wu Shengnan, still a little excited, had been about to elaborate further to Luo once they were inside. But after catching Du Heng’s look, she was momentarily surprised, then immediately realized her thoughtlessness.

Luo had suffered an Abortion last month when she was a little over two months pregnant. While it was okay to talk about her own pregnancy, being overly excited would undoubtedly make Luo uncomfortable.

Understanding this, Wu Shengnan quickly took a deep breath and reined in her bubbling excitement.

When Du Heng had them sit down and went to get them some water, Luo, still smiling, asked her previous question again.

This time, Wu Shengnan just smiled gently and said vaguely, "Everything’s fine, no problems."

Then, she leaned closer to Luo and whispered, "Never mind my news. You know why I asked you here today. When my husband asks you questions, just tell him everything. You’ve seen his skills; there won’t be any issues. Don’t hold anything back out of shyness."

Luo felt the warmth of Wu Shengnan’s hand on hers and hummed softly in agreement.

Du Heng and Luo had only met once before and weren’t really acquaintances, so Du Heng didn’t make small talk. After getting them water and sitting down, he asked directly, "Officer Luo, about your situation... Nannan gave me a general idea yesterday. Since I haven’t examined you myself, I had to ask you to come in."

"I’m sorry to trouble you."

Du Heng smiled faintly. "Don’t say that. You’re Nannan’s colleague; there’s no need for such formalities." He then cleared his throat, his expression turning serious. "Shall we begin?"

Seeing Du Heng turn serious, Luo also sat up straighter. "Yes, let’s begin."

"Did your breasts start to shrink after the Abortion?"

"Yes."

"Are there any other symptoms? Such as hardening, pain, or any lumps?"

Luo shook her head, clearly very familiar with her condition. "No, they’re just gradually getting smaller."

Du Heng hesitated for a moment. "May I take a look?"

At this question, Luo’s face immediately turned red, and she glanced at Wu Shengnan.

Wu Shengnan also blushed. However, she knew Du Heng wasn’t a lecher and wouldn’t make such an outrageous request without reason. Pretending to be calm, she said to Luo, "Why are you looking at me, Luo? He’s a doctor now. It’s perfectly reasonable for him to take a look if something’s wrong."

Then she turned to Du Heng, giving him a mock-fierce glare, and asked in a teasingly stern voice, "Isn’t that right?"

Ignoring Wu Shengnan’s theatrics, Du Heng said flatly, "You have no tact at all. Go outside and keep an eye on the door. This is my office; don’t let anyone in."

"AHHH?!" Wu Shengnan’s mouth fell open. She hadn’t expected this outcome at all.

"What are you ’ahhing’ about? Hurry up and go," Du Heng urged again.

Wu Shengnan reluctantly got up and walked slowly out of the office. To say she looked back every few steps would be an understatement of her unwillingness to leave.

Luo, meanwhile, was blushing furiously, her head bowed, not saying a word.

But Du Heng’s gaze was clear and professional, without a trace of impropriety.

Once Wu Shengnan had left, Du Heng saw what she meant by shrunken breasts.

Du Heng took a deep breath. The sight before him was exactly as Wu Shengnan had described, perhaps even more severe.

He had a vague impression of Luo from before. If her bust had once been impressively full, what he saw today was alarmingly diminished.

Shriveled!

If not for the loose skin, one would hardly believe this was the chest of a young woman.

Cancer? That was Du Heng’s first thought.

Du Heng nodded, indicating she could cover up, then called Wu Shengnan back in.

Du Heng chose to ignore Wu Shengnan’s murderous glare. After a moment’s thought, he said, "Come, let me feel your pulse."

Her pulse string was fine, and her tongue was pale red.

Du Heng frowned slightly. Strange, this is a bit different from my initial assessment.

"What’s wrong, honey?" Wu Shengnan, who had been sitting to the side still nursing a bit of a bad temper, immediately grew concerned when she saw Du Heng’s expression change.

Du Heng offered a reassuring smile. "Nothing, I think I have an idea."

With that, he turned to Luo. "Officer Luo, have things been stressful at home? Have you been feeling frustrated, perhaps bottling up a lot of anger?"

Officer Luo nodded, her expression troubled. "After the Abortion, the bleeding wouldn’t stop, so I was hospitalized for a few days. My husband is from out of town and very busy with his job, so I asked my Mother to come take care of me. But she kept nagging me, and then she started criticizing my husband. He got fed up with her words, and then we started arguing. Sigh, for the past month or two, there hasn’t been a single day of peace."

"You haven’t been eating well during this time, have you?" Du Heng withdrew his hand, his own expression relaxing.

This question made Officer Luo sigh again. "I can’t eat. I feel like I’m full of anger every day. When I was in the hospital and then resting at home, my Mother kept blaming me and my husband. After I went back to work, she kept on at my husband, saying he didn’t cherish me. She said an Abortion is still like giving birth, and even if I didn’t have a full confinement period, I should have at least rested at home for a few more days. I got so annoyed with the nagging but couldn’t get away from it. She was worried I’d overtire myself or not eat properly, so she even moved in with us to cook for me every day. But as soon as it’s mealtime, the nagging starts all over again. Really, my head feels like it’s about to explode." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Officer Luo looked both aggrieved and exasperated. After taking a breath, she added, "Then I started noticing this problem, and my mood got even worse, more irritable. So I’ve been eating even less."

A sharp tongue but a soft heart? Du Heng pursed his lips. A sharp tongue can be the cruelest weapon.

Du Heng smiled. "Alright, relax. This isn’t a major problem. Go home, make sure you eat well, and take the medicine I prescribe. I guarantee you’ll be back to normal within a month."
