Chapter 1019: 689 I’m going to be a father.
Diagnosing and prescribing was Du Heng’s job, but he could relax a bit during the medication observation period, as someone else would take care of it.
Moreover, the child with congenital syphilis was a bit different from the child in the Hematology Department of Provincial First Hospital. After all, this child just had a low immune system, causing chronic disease. At least for the time being, it was not life-threatening and there was no danger.
So Du Heng handed the prescription to Doctor Ma and instructed him to keep an eye on the situation before gathering his things and heading home.
The reason for going home early today was because Wu Shengnan, who had been out and about for a week, was finally coming home to rest, and Du Heng had to seize this rare quality time.
When he got home, Wu Shengnan was already in casual clothes, busily cleaning the house. When she saw Du Heng come in, she didn’t greet him with a smile but complained with a pout.
"Honey, what have you been doing for the past week or so? Couldn’t you just wipe down that table and clean up the garbage on the floor?"
As Wu Shengnan cleaned, she continued to nag, "And the dishes in the sink, couldn’t you have just washed them right after eating? Now the leftover food scraps are dried onto the plates.
"Thank goodness it’s autumn, and the weather has cooled down. Otherwise, I think the house would have been infested with flies already."
Du Heng listened to Wu Shengnan’s nagging without getting angry, but instead happily joined in and helped with the cleaning up as well. "I get lazy when you’re not around.
"Plus, I’ve been swamped with preparing lesson plans these past few days and simply overlooked it.
"Don’t be mad, baby, I’ll help you clean up."
Wu Shengnan gave Du Heng a wry look. "You always have plenty of excuses."
"It’s the truth; I didn’t intentionally neglect the chores."
When the two of them cleaned up together, things went quite fast. Besides, there wasn’t much garbage in the house; it was mainly from not wiping or sweeping these past few days.
After cleaning, they went to the kitchen to cook together, enjoying their rare time together.
However, as they chatted, Du Heng couldn’t help but ask, "Our wedding day is almost here, can you be less busy this month?"
Wu Shengnan glanced back at Du Heng and saw his cautious expression, then made a playful face before turning her attention back to her work. "Don’t worry, I’ve already talked to Leader Zhang, and it won’t affect our plans."
Du Heng’s face relaxed, and he said with ease, "That’s good, that’s good."
"What about you? Shouldn’t you also be taking it easy and helping me out a bit?"
Du Heng nodded slightly. "I’ve pretty much got nothing going on; it’s just going to work every day and then going to school to teach. I have a lot of free time."
Ever since Du Heng decided to support Wu Shengnan in her career, their relationship had become very harmonious.
Moreover, due to Du Heng’s support, Wu Shengnan was trying her best to compensate for Du Heng’s efforts, so the atmosphere between the two became very relaxed. So much so that even during dinner, their conversation was filled with laughter and humor.
After dinner, the two cuddled on the sofa watching TV dramas, utterly sweet and in an increasingly romantic mood. It was at this critical moment that an ill-timed phone call came in.
Both Du Heng and Wu Shengnan had rather unique jobs that didn’t allow them to ignore their phones. As soon as the phone rang, Du Heng sighed and reluctantly reached for it.
However, when he took a look at the phone, he saw that it was Zhuo Mingde who had called, which made him relax slightly.
Their phone conversation was very polite; they exchanged a few pleasantries and then hung up.
Wu Shengnan asked curiously, "Did I hear something’s up?"
Du Heng casually tossed the phone aside and embraced Wu Shengnan again. "A little bit. My elder martial uncle’s youngest son is getting married, and I’ve been invited to the wedding."
With that said, Du Heng suddenly remembered that he still had an invitation in his bag, so he loosened his embrace and took out the invitation. "Here, the invitation."
Wu Shengnan also got up to fetch her own bag. "Now that you mention it, I almost forgot! My brother has prepared a few different styles of invitations for us. Take a look and see which one you like better?"
They exchanged the invitations in their hands and flipped through the designs, completely ignoring the contents of Du Heng’s invitation.
Wu Shengnan picked up the invitation and looked at it. "TSK," she tutted. "Honey, this invitation is a bit too simple."
Du Heng nodded lightly. "As far as invitations go, I think simpler is better. If it’s too flashy, people might not even want to look at it."
Wu Shengnan slapped her hand on her thigh and glared at Du Heng, then said somewhat unhappily, "So you’re saying the invitations I showed you aren’t good?"
Du Heng flipped through the few invitations in his hand, then clicked his tongue and said, "Not bad, just too good."
He then took out one of the invitations and placed it in front of Wu Shengnan. "Look at this one, it has gold edges. My, my, this invitation must have cost a pretty penny. If we add up all the guests from both our sides, how much would this cost?"
Wu Shengnan looked at the invitation in Du Heng’s hand and pouted. "I’m only getting married once; what’s wrong with having a nicer one? Besides, it’s not like we’re short on money. If you’re worried about spending money, I can use mine to pay for it."
