Chapter 1490: Chapter 211 - The Seven Deadly Sins (6)
Leon’s POV
The darkness hanging over the horizon of the Demon Continent was honestly unlike anything I had ever seen before.
It wasn’t just nighttime darkness. It wasn’t the kind of darkness you experienced when the sun went down and people lit lanterns outside their homes before calling it a day. This felt different. Heavier. Almost unnatural.
The sky itself seemed to swallow whatever light existed around it.
If someone dropped me in the middle of this place without any light source, I probably would’ve believed I had gone blind. It was that dark. The kind of darkness where your eyes kept trying to adjust, only to realize there wasn’t much to adjust to in the first place.
Even though I had traveled through plenty of dangerous places before, the atmosphere here still managed to feel unsettling.
Right now, I was trying to figure out what exactly was happening in the town I had arrived in.
Calling it a town felt a little generous, honestly.
The place looked abandoned.
Not completely abandoned, of course. There were still people around. I could see them moving through the streets and carrying their belongings. The problem was that nobody looked like they planned on staying.
Quite the opposite, actually.
Every person I saw seemed busy preparing to leave.
Some were loading carts.
Others were carrying bags.
A few looked as though they had already packed everything they owned and were only waiting for the right moment to get moving.
The entire place felt like a town in the middle of an evacuation.
It was almost as if everyone was running away from something.
Naturally, my first thought was that some kind of disaster was approaching.
Considering this was the Demon Continent, that wouldn’t have been a surprising conclusion.
The place wasn’t exactly famous for peace and stability.
If someone told me that a massive storm was heading this way, I would’ve believed it.
If they told me a giant tornado had appeared somewhere nearby, I would’ve believed that too.
If they claimed a volcano was about to erupt or that some giant monster was wandering around destroying settlements, that honestly wouldn’t have sounded strange either.
This was the Demon Continent.
Weird and dangerous things happened here all the time.
Still, something felt off about that explanation.
As I continued walking through the town, I paid closer attention to the buildings surrounding me.
The infrastructure was surprisingly sturdy.
These weren’t fragile structures that would collapse the moment strong winds appeared.
Most of them looked incredibly durable.
The houses, walls, and roads all seemed designed to endure harsh conditions.
Looking at them, it felt like they could survive powerful storms and even earthquakes without too much trouble.
That was what made me skeptical.
If the people here were leaving because of some natural disaster, then it had to be something far worse than anything I could immediately think of.
"It might be a different kind of disaster, though..." I muttered quietly.
A disaster didn’t necessarily need to come from nature.
Sometimes people were much worse.
After spending some more time observing my surroundings and listening to conversations whenever possible, I eventually managed to put together most of the situation.
The answer turned out to be surprisingly simple.
I overheard two people talking near one of the streets.
Then I heard another group mentioning the exact same thing.
A little later, I heard it again.
Wrath was coming.
Satania was coming.
The moment I heard her name, everything immediately started making more sense.
Actually, saying it made sense might not have been the best choice of words.
It was more accurate to say that everything suddenly became terrifyingly reasonable.
Satania of Wrath.
The Seven Deadly Sin of Wrath.
A monster among monsters.
If someone asked me what the greatest disaster on the Demon Continent was, I genuinely wasn’t sure whether I would answer with a natural phenomenon or simply say her name.
There probably wasn’t anyone more feared than her across the entire continent.
People spoke about her the same way people spoke about earthquakes, tsunamis, or plagues.
The difference was that those disasters didn’t make decisions.
Satania did.
That made her significantly worse.
Her reputation alone was enough to send entire settlements into panic.
Anything she became interested in tended to disappear shortly afterward.
Sometimes it was a fortress.
Sometimes it was an army.
Sometimes it was an entire city.
The details varied.
The ending usually didn’t.
That was probably what happened to Foriel.
The more I thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
And if that was the case, then it wasn’t hard to understand why she wanted revenge so badly.
While I was walking through the town and thinking about all of this, I suddenly felt something.
Or rather, someone.
The feeling was subtle.
Very subtle.
If I hadn’t developed my senses, I probably wouldn’t have noticed it at all.
But it was there.
A presence.
Someone was following me.
Their presence wasn’t particularly strong.
Actually, it was so insignificant that most people would’ve overlooked it completely.
Still, I could tell.
Someone was watching me.
Without making it obvious, I glanced behind me.
I made sure the movement looked natural.
The last thing I wanted was to alert whoever was trailing me.
After a brief look, I confirmed one thing.
I didn’t recognize them.
At least, not from memory.
The person following me appeared to be a young woman.
And as far as I knew, I had never met her before.
Which immediately raised a question.
Who exactly was she?
Deciding to find out, I changed direction and slipped into a less crowded area.
Once I was out of sight, I quickly hid myself.
Then I jumped.
Using my enhanced abilities, I propelled myself onto the roof of a nearby building before looking down at the street below.
Just as I expected, the girl following me stopped.
She looked around in confusion.
Then she pressed herself against a wall and carefully leaned around a corner, clearly trying to figure out where I had disappeared to.
The confused expression on her face made it obvious that she had completely lost track of me.
I used Levitation Magic and silently lowered myself behind her.
My landing didn’t make a sound.
For a moment, I simply observed her.
She definitely wasn’t someone I knew.
At least, I was fairly certain of that.
The girl continued searching for me for several seconds before finally turning around.
The moment her eyes landed on me, she froze.
"Ahh!"
The startled scream escaped her mouth before she could stop it.
I immediately moved forward and pinned her against the wall.
From an outsider’s perspective, it probably looked suspiciously similar to a kabedon.
Not exactly the image I was aiming for.
Still, I had more important things to worry about.
Looking directly into her eyes, I asked the most obvious question.
"Who are you? And why are you following me?"
"Ah... eh... ahh..."
She immediately began fumbling over her words.
Her hands pointed in random directions.
Her eyes practically spun with panic.
For someone who had been following me, she seemed completely unprepared for the possibility of actually getting caught.
"N-Nothing," she stammered. "I-I’m nobody."
That was probably one of the least convincing answers she could’ve given.
The nervousness in her voice made her look even more suspicious.
It genuinely seemed like she was struggling to explain herself.
Then, after several awkward moments, she finally managed to force out another sentence.
"I-I came to warn you..."
That immediately caught my attention.
Warn me?
Now I was interested.
About what?
And more importantly, why me?
"Satania is coming," she said.
Her expression became noticeably more serious.
"You need to leave the Demon Continent as soon as possible."
For a moment, I just stared at her.
That was what she wanted to tell me?
Then another question appeared almost immediately.
How did she know who I was?
Why would she specifically come looking for me?
What connection did she have with me?
Or perhaps more importantly, what connection did she have with Lilith?
Before I could ask even a single one of those questions, something strange happened.
Her body suddenly began turning transparent.
I blinked.
Then blinked again.
The girl slowly faded before my eyes.
"What the..."
Before I could react, her entire figure dissolved into a cloud of black smoke.
And then she was gone.
Just like that.
I found myself staring at the floating smoke in complete confusion.
The dark mist lingered in the air for several moments before gradually dispersing and disappearing entirely.
Leaving nothing behind.
I remained standing there for a while.
Honestly, I had absolutely no idea what had just happened.
The more I learned about everything going on around me, the more complicated the situation seemed to become.
Every answer brought two more questions.
Every clue led to another mystery.
And somehow, despite not wanting to get involved, it felt like I was being dragged deeper into the center of everything.
An incoming conflict.
A massive one.
Something far larger than a simple war.
I didn’t know why I felt that way.
I didn’t have any proof.
But the feeling wouldn’t go away.
It felt as though all of this was only the beginning.
And whatever was coming next was going to be bigger, more dangerous, and far more chaotic than anything I had ever experienced before.
