Ulfur kept leaping and dodging all of Jon’s attack with one hand behind his back. Jon was already sweating and huffing.

’This has been going on for the past one hour and he has not even taken that hand away, none of my attacks has reached him either, this is getting annoying if it’s me I should be able to at least scratch him.’

"Impressive but is this the best you can do?"

Ulfur stood on a block of tall thin ice that grew from the ground, he jumped down lightly without even making any sound and walked towards Jon as he talked.

"Indeed you are remarkable but this is not even close to my expectations, I thought you were the strongest."

"you’d be surprised to find out I’ve been holding back"

"bluffing now are we?"

’His within range’ Jon stretched forth his hand and curved his fingers as if he was going to clench them but did not clench them.

Ulfur staggered a bit,

’This bastard did he just - "

He immediately gained back his stand, a confusing look made its way to Jon’s face.

’What?’

He re-did it but it was to no avail. He kept trying it over and over again. In a blink of an eye, Ulfur was beneath his jaw and he was sent flying by the palm-hit on his jaw.

Even after landing he couldn’t understand why it didn’t work, it was his signature skill and the most powerful as at that, the ability to freeze the internal body within a particular range.

"Wow, you are something, but if this is what the strongest of this party looks like then I am dissatisfied"

"What did you do?" Jon struggled to get up.

"Uh?oh, while you were trying to freeze my heart, I just put up some ice attributes resistance barrier and applied some heat."

"Is this some kind of conjuring class? What bullshit is that?"

"Exactly that is where we all miss it, see Mister Jon here’s my advice for you first before I tell you something about your skills I saw here today. Number one, conjuring is the best way to use magic, magic is way beyond some written down script that you have to follow, you are in control of the mana, all you have to do is be flexible, learn the applications and produce something, evolve every time, you have an ice attribute and your affinity with it is very high, have you tried playing with water, then mercury, then whatever liquid substances that are attributed to water that is how you get stronger Jon, prodigies like us never stick with the script which is why we are called prodigies."

By the time Ulfur was done Jon was enlightened.

’How come I have never thought about it before... he is right, water and who knows I may even be able to control aerosol effects’

Jon was very appreciative and had immediately fallen in love with Ulfur for showing him such enlightenment. He sat up, crossed his leg on the floor like a diligent student and asked.

"So what more advice do you have for me?"

Ulfur was at first surprised by the sudden change in attitude but soon smiled it away.

He sat the same way at Jon’s front and started.

"Now listen to me carefully. You are a glacier remarkable, one clap"

𝐶𝑙𝑎𝑝

He clapped his palms together.

"You have a very good control and output domination, another one clap for that"

𝐶𝑙𝑎𝑝

"Then you are very good with in-battle calculation, such as reading your opponent’s movements and using that as a determinant for how to strike next another two clap because not all magician can do this."

𝐶𝑙𝑎𝑝

𝐶𝑙𝑎𝑝

"You are good Mister Jon, you are better than even the average magician within the union organisation and probably one of the few best within the academy, no doubt but for a glacier like you, there should be much more expectations. And why is that? because you are not bounded by the laws of mana." Take for example a fire mage can create fire but by commanding the mana, so they need mana to create fire why is it like that because they have no power over the fire, all they do is plead then the mana sends the message then the will of the fire resonates and then the plea is turned to reality, just like that everything has its pros and cons, everything has a will, they all respond based on your mentality of them and your mentality of them reflects in how you use them. So yes elements have a will. A fire mage can decide to call upon a fire and not see anything but do you know why that has never happened either except cases like not enough mana"

"Why sir?"

"Come on drop the honorifics I’m not even in my mid-twenties yet"

"Then how old are you and how should I address you"

"That is not your business. Now let me get back to the point before I decide not to teach you anymore"

"Sure sir, go on"

"Hmm...So I was saying in cases of not enough mana..."

"Excuse me, teacher..."

"damm you bro what is it?!" Ulfur was getting pissed.

"I do have a question about mana"

"Save it for when I’m done. Now the reason why the fire will respond is... I want you to see it like this, those element like to be used, hence they feed on mana to be active, so the more mana the stronger the power, what’s your mana stage?"

"Intermediate superior middle"

"What?!, you are still in the rookie mana realm?"

"What is that supposed to mean sir, that is the mana grading system in our continent"

"Ha ha, when we say that folks on the western continent were the weakest it wasn’t just discrimination. Mana has three realms, the rookie realm, the ascended realm and the profound realm, in the rookie realm you use a grading system such as entry, middle and end. But in the ascended realm you use grading such as rook, pro, superior, master and grandmaster, and while in the profound realm there’s no grading system, only legends and gods make it up to that stage, don’t get your expectations high with that face you are making."

Jon’s face distorted from being demoralised completely by Ulfur.

"When you finally reach the ascended realm your mana core will reform completely from being a Jar that contains mana to being a magnet that attracts mana, hence your mana core begins to gain colour as you rise from rook to grandmaster, mages between these stages are then referred to as nine-star mage and when you are a master you are referred to as a high mage, a grandmaster is referred to as a grand mage, those are magic tower masters they are too powerful to be meddling hence they pick up a habit of building magic towers which they gather endless knowledge about magic, there’s only two in the whole world, don’t worry you can never meet any of them, they barely leave their towers, I don’t particularly have high expectations but you possibly could become a grand mage in the next 70 years."

"eh... isn’t that too much?"

"I have never heard of a grand mage below 50, well I plan to be the first"

"That means I can do it too, we are prodigies after all "

"oh-oh, getting cocky just because of some few praises. Not that it bothers me, let’s see you get there, makes me the teacher of a grand mage, well that is it about mana, so do not think reaching the advanced superior end is an accomplishment"

’It should be, why is he hating’

"Well... as I was saying, elements like to be in action hence they will of course answer to the call but do you know why a glacier, a pyromancer, a geomancer, an aquarist, an Aeron, an Electro are special because to harness the power of ice, fire, earth, water, air and lightening is they don’t need to send a message, a normal magician would send a message using mana right, but these would pick the power up directly the similarity is they both have to feed on mana to be strong."

"Looking at it like that there’s no power difference."

"What are you talking about, there’s a huge power difference. The power is crazy, the output is broad, they also have 40% of breaking concepts these are enough to make them special, by fully utilizing this privilege they could turn out to be the best. So you have to first know yourself, then another thing is work on increasing your range at the same time practice hard on reducing it"

"I don’t exactly under- "

"What I’m saying is increase the range which the effect of your attacks but also focus on the ranges that are left open between you, your attack and your opponent, for example how I closed in on you and hit you, you were defenseless. Work on it, there should be ways you could use your glacier skills as a close-range fighter, I will advise that you should learn making a spear with ice which means you will probably have to learn spearmanship. Ah dammm talking is tiring"

Ulfur straightened his leg and laid on the ground.

"Uhm sir, the question about mana"

"go on?"

"Why would mana not like a person"

Ulfur sat back up in surprise.

"Uh? What did you say?"

"A person has a mana core but can’t gather mana, it’s more like no matter how much he tries he can’t just accumulate mana"

"ehhh?!! That is insane and this is the first time I’ve heard of that kind of predicament"

"...I see"

"But what I know is, mana has a consciousness, it’s their nature to serve life so it shouldn’t happen but then just like mana serves life there’s a mana that serves the other side of life."

"dark magic?"

"Yea that...I don’t know about that kind of stuff and I don’t like making guesses, why for gaia’s goodness will mana not serve a living. It’s the worst of luck there is"

"I see" Jon looked down

" Judging by the look on your face it is someone you know, a close friend "

"Yes, you eventually find out"

"hmmm. Well this is the end of our class, I hope I have been able to help in any way"

"Yes teacher, thanks to you I will become stronger than before"

"Hmm, then I hope we meet again so I can see that stronger you"

Jon bowed.

" Thank you, sir "

Jon is the type that hardly took anyone’s teaching or advice now admires Ulfur so much, it told how amazing Ulfur was.
