Chapter 349: Chapter 349 - The conspiracy.

[Chapter Size: 2600 Words.]

Third Person POV

Aretuza.

...

...

Madara and Ciri remained hidden in Aretuza until the time of the banquet, while the castle filled with mages and sorceresses along with their companions, even a day before the banquet to socialize.

After all, it was not every day that all the mages and sorcerers of the continent gathered in one place.

Those who could cause trouble immediately tried to find the whereabouts of Madara and Ciri, but the room they were in was protected by a fuinjutsu barrier.

Madara stayed with Tissaia, while they talked about all the flaws in the barriers, they acted and began to fix them secretly, hidden from the eyes of the others, mainly using Hiraishin’s silent teleportation.

Whatever they were planning, he had already placed several clones at those points to observe what would happen. Meanwhile, Tissaia was still quite disturbed by the betrayal of some old acquaintances who were behind these flaws.

He had already placed some clones to watch them, with enough chakra to even activate the Sharingan and remain hidden even under everyone’s watchful eyes. He was still a shinobi, and his mastery of Yin/darkness allowed him to create many related jutsu, even to infiltrate the shadows while observing and moving through the castle without anyone noticing. No sorcerer was capable of detecting him.

When he managed to find an opening, one of his clones acted. Upon seeing one of the sorceresses who had caused the flaw in the barrier walking alone through the corridor, he emerged from the shadows and dropped behind her, delivering a small strike to her neck — enough to knock her out. Then, he caught her before disappearing from the place, while other people came soon after through the same corridor, unaware that a sorceress had just been kidnapped there moments before.

The original body was with Tissaia when the clone appeared with the unconscious body of the sorceress.

Tissaia couldn’t help but swallow hard when she saw one of her former pupils. She was not the type of person who would act or agree to create an ambush or trap as they seemed to be planning in Aretuza, even if she was not someone close to Madara.

After all, in the original work, she was not even aware of the machinations among the sorcerers who supported Vilgefortz and those who supported the North, to the point of taking her own life after seeing her former colleagues killing each other in pursuit of power and ambitions on both sides.

Tissaia had always been a person who did not seek that kind of influence or power. She would never accept it. So much so that no one even tried to place her on either side, because they knew she would never accept it.

The same could be said now. So, seeing this betrayal from that sorceress was like daggers being driven into her heart.

Madara gave a small touch to the sorceress’s forehead with his storm release, making her wake up. As soon as she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was the three-tomoe Sharingan, being immediately cast into a genjutsu.

Madara rummaged through her mind, passing through all the barriers. Immediately, he began to see the memories. He saw everything and left her there, paralyzed, while he returned to Tissaia, his eyes still with the Sharingan active. He placed her inside a genjutsu.

She was already aware of what was to come. Suddenly, she found herself inside an illusion. Madara and she were standing inside a very luxurious room. The sorceress in question was standing among a group of others who would also be at the meeting, and some were already in Aretuza awaiting the meeting of the following day.

In the illusion, there were two groups in that room, where there were two sofas, used only by two people, while the sorcerers stood behind each one seated there.

Sitting in front of them was another sorcerer, no, someone of higher status. A mage.

"Hen Gedymdeith?!" Tissaia couldn’t help but frown when she saw none other than that elderly man, a respected sorcerer with the status of a mage like hers.

On the other side, there were other sorcerers as well, wearing dark clothes. Meanwhile, sitting in front of Vilgefortz, there was a nobleman, well dressed.

"Morvran Voorhis. He is from Nilfgaard... one of the army commanders," Madara commented, while Tissaia looked at him for the first time.

"How can they be trying to plan something like this? Our meeting was supposed to be a meeting to talk about the dark dimension!" Tissaia said, frustrated.

"I’m also surprised. I thought I had demonstrated enough power for no one to try anything stupid. I don’t understand what gave them so much courage to act like this other than witnessing human stupidity..." Madara said, while watching the meeting unfold.

He had already seen that, but Tissaia had not.

"So, can we count on you?" asked the Nilfgaardian man in front of the other sorcerers, wearing Nilfgaardian cloaks.

"Yes. As you can see, we have some infiltrators who will take care of the barriers. Tissaia called for this... we will handle the openings you requested..."

Morvran Voorhis seemed thoughtful before turning back to the elderly man. "Well, I still think we can be discovered. There is nothing that man cannot do," murmured the Nilfgaardian.

The old man, Hen Gedymdeith, merely sighed. "I know... but it is a risk we must take."

"Yes. The emperor and the empire fear his powers... and you also fear the future of the continent. The balance ended at that moment, and it will only be a matter of time before he dominates everything," Vilgefortz said, before opening a smile. "And you fear that. Sorcerers and mages no longer have as much power and influence in this scenario... since neither kings nor armies could do anything against that man."

"Yes... and he is becoming more and more powerful. That is why it is an opportunity..." said the man.

It was obvious they were talking about Madara.

Tissaia raised her eyebrows. Madara had already seen that, so he showed no reaction. They feared him — it was obvious. His powers caused fear. But it was almost amusing to see how those insignificant men and women thought they could deal with him.

"About all the data we discovered — from the end of the war in Sodden to the night the dragons attacked the North — we reached a conclusion: he was not as powerful as he appeared during the war," one of the mages began.

"Yes, I heard about that," said the Nilfgaardian member. "You reported that you realized he had become an adult at the end of the war, with red armor, and simply decimated his attackers — and our entire Nilfgaard army — as if it were nothing, even going so far as to cut two mountains in half. The power of a god..." he said.

And Hen Gedymdeith was the one who spoke this time, continuing.

"After that, he returned to his young form again, and we discovered something... he was not as powerful as he had shown during the war. But we began to see his powers increasing over time. He keeps getting more and more powerful." He paused.

"We concluded that on the night of the dragon attack, he still does not have the power he showed during the war. That is why we must stop him immediately, because it will only be a matter of time before that becomes reality..." said the sorcerer.

"Why? Why are they planning to kill him?" Tissaia could not understand.

Madara simply watched. He then mocked, speaking of the most obvious conclusion for this kind of foolishness... "The human mind is like that... they fear what they cannot control. They are afraid... afraid of the future I might build on the continent... And because of that, they are even capable of attempting something so stupid, even knowing they might die. They think I am a demon who will bring the entire world to its knees, they are willing to sacrifice their lives to try to stop me..." Madara said.

Not everyone thought like that, but there were always people like this. Probably, that mage — Hen Gedymdeith — had conducted a very careful study to find out who could oppose him, gathering those who would not call this madness.

But that was not all. Certainly, the scenario was enough to give Nilfgaard some confidence that they could defeat him. Because, even if he still did not have the power he showed during the war, he was still capable of destroying entire kingdoms — and he had not even shown all his abilities. After all, he still had techniques that he had not truly used at any point. The sage mode he had been training for over a year was one of them... He himself was trying to surpass the original Madara with it.

"Well, you are in luck. Our emperor Emhyr made contact with some people... an extremely powerful group that also has the objective of eliminating this threat," said the nobleman, in a firm tone.

"Then that is wonderful... we will have Nilfgaard’s support. And could you tell us more about this group?" asked the mage, a bit more excited without imagining who it could be, while all the sorcerers behind him also looked on with curiosity.

"It is not for me to speak about them. I do not even know them. It is under the emperor’s secrecy," he replied.

"Alright. Then let’s keep in contact. I will be waiting for the flaws in the barriers, at the points we agreed on," said the Nilfgaardian general.

They began to say their goodbyes and leave that luxurious room.

The memory ended with one of the sorceresses leaving.

After that, more memories emerged, with meetings where they discussed where they should leave the flaws in the barriers and how they should mislead Tissaia’s suspicions. They also decided to keep an eye on her, as they knew it would not be difficult to read her reactions — if she suspected anything, she would show it.

When the memory ended, Tissaia couldn’t help but pace back and forth as she came out of Madara’s genjutsu.

"How can they do such a thing... plan this?" she growled, torn between disappointment and anger.

"You should understand human nature, Tissaia... especially that of sorcerers, who are naturally greedy. You know that better than I do," Madara said to her, while Tissaia looked on, somewhat frustrated.

The clone stood there, while the original Madara spoke with her.

"In any case, we must prepare. I will go after the noble who spoke with the mage first. They are not the real problem... the real problem is that group the emperor made contact with," Madara said, thoughtfully.

"What do you plan to do?" she asked, while he lifted his gaze.

"Obviously... I intend to go to Nilfgaard. I will first look for the noble. If I don’t find answers, then I will go after the emperor himself," Madara replied.

"Are you sure about that?" Tissaia asked, visibly startled.

"I have information inside the Empire far beyond what they can imagine. Reaching the emperor will not be difficult," he said, while she nodded with some caution.

"I want you to do something," Madara said.

She listened and accepted his terms. She would never allow the chaos that was about to begin to happen. She agreed to a certain meeting tomorrow.

Madara’s clone picked up the sorceress again and placed her inside a classroom. She blinked, remembering nothing — only a vague recollection of having entered there without knowing the reason. Confused, she blinked again and left the room, returning to her duties. The Sharingan took care of implanting confused memories in her.

Later that night, Madara explained what was happening to Ciri, who seemed worried. She spent most of the time talking with Isabella and also with Yennefer and Triss.

The two sorceresses also had a conversation with Tissaia, who did not fail to keep a serious expression.

There were sorcerers planning to eliminate Madara — even if it was a suicidal act. At the same time, they wanted to show the world the danger he represented. And there was still the matter of a secret group allied with Nilfgaard. It could be people from another continent... perhaps that was the most likely. But they should no longer have shinobi capable...

Madara then planned how he would deal with that. He had already sent a clone to go after the Nilfgaardian noble during the early hours of the morning. The clone did not find him in his main lands, but rather in a kind of summer house, as if he were hiding in a rural area within the empire.

That made Madara realize that everything had been carefully planned.

The clone found him in bed. He dragged him out and placed him under a genjutsu, without him being able to resist. Then, he searched through everything. He heard conversations with the emperor about that group, but there was no concrete information — only the emperor’s own word.

"Looks like I’ll have to go after your father..."

When the clone passed the information to Madara, already in the morning, he couldn’t help but make that comment beside Ciri, while they had breakfast.

"Punch him in the face for me," Ciri said immediately.

Madara didn’t fail to notice her frustrated tone, but he remained firm as they continued planning inside one of the rooms of Aretuza, with no sorcerer or noble to disturb them. They were still hidden under everyone’s eyes, and the place was even more crowded with those magical men and women.

He met with Tissaia, a moment before she was about to receive Hen Gedymdeith himself. It was expected that she would meet him, as both were mages, among the most influential magical beings on the continent, so that would not raise suspicion.

She called him to a private room to talk about the meeting.

Madara said that Tissaia should remain neutral and detached from everything that was happening, because any expression could reveal what she already knew — exactly as they themselves had commented. The mage seemed more at ease upon seeing that Tissaia did not show suspicion.

That made him speak more naturally, commenting on the concern about the dark dimension and how Madara would be helping everyone. That seemed to be reaching Tissaia’s limit, who let a mocking expression show on her face as she listened to him.

’These bastards are planning an attack inside Aretuza right under my nose and he is acting like someone concerned...?!’ she thought, not knowing how much longer she could endure that.

"Is something wrong, Lady Tissaia?" Hen Gedymdeith asked, noticing her expression, frowning.

Madara realized he could no longer wait.

The man had not come alone — there were two sorcerers with him. Both were taken down instantly, as if they had been struck at the same time. Madara was far too fast.

When Hen Gedymdeith realized, Madara had already grabbed him by the neck, lifting him into the air while activating the Sharingan.

The mage cast a frightened look before succumbing.

Madara released him after seeing his memories. They were not very useful, aside from some additional information about possible enemies among the Northern mages who were allied with Hen Gedymdeith’s conspiracy.

"I will keep him under control," Madara said, looking at the paralyzed man.

Tissaia, despite not liking this method, did not disagree. That man was still planning something terrible that she would never allow to happen.

It was still mid-morning at that moment. They had until nightfall — until everything finally happened.
