Chapter 62: Creating a Milestone
Unedited*
No one understood its movements, nor its words.
The Agility Golem—quite heavy but fast—moved. Once the mana mark was activated, the Golem quickly sought out its opponent, just as its engineering design dictated.
Despite being heavily affected by the mana mark, its speed was astonishing.
"Attack!" Diego roared from behind.
In the stands, the spectators rose to their feet to watch the spectacle.
"It’s the Golem that’s practically illegal! Look at those spikes sticking out of its body!"
It had many spikes protruding from its body, ready to be launched at any moment or put to use.
Two appeared in its hands, like sharp daggers seeking a neck to slit.
Lucius felt curious at that moment.
Why does everyone say this Golem borders on being illegal? Too much power? Deadly attacks? Illegal attacks?
What exactly makes it illegal?
He thought he was about to find out.
At that moment, the motionless Class F golem suddenly glowed. Its seemingly lifeless eyes glowed a blood-red, similar to the red of the armor.
The armor itself glowed faintly.
The Agility Golem reached its victim’s neck in an instant. Its movement was extremely fast, so the Class F golem’s speed had clearly been lacking.
Everyone could understand that. With the weight of that mana mark, it was difficult for anything to move quickly.
Suddenly, the Agility Golem struck...
BOOM!
An explosion occurred in that instant, and immediately, shards of metal began to scatter all around.
There was no dust. Just metal and residual mana, blown in all directions.
The golem’s structure succumbed to destruction... at the hands of a spear.
Before anyone could even comprehend what was happening, the Class F Golem had swung its spear straight at the Class E Golem.
And that spear produced an explosion from its tip. It wasn’t an explosion of power, but of speed.
By the time everyone reacted, one Golem had already been blown to pieces.
And, once again, they were unable to react.
Lucius shook his head. "What a shame—I wanted to see why they said it was illegal."
Even his teammates were in shock behind him.
The referee couldn’t say a word. And although the judges understood very well what had happened, they, too, were paralyzed.
That Golem’s speed... was terrifying.
"A speed on par with a Level 3 attack weapon," said one of the judges.
"Even greater," said the eldest judge. "Does this break the rules?"
"Its strength... I don’t think it belonged entirely to the golem. Its level is still 1." Another one recalled. This was one of the ones most eager to cause trouble for Class F, but faced with this situation, he even began to support them.
My God, they’d just blown a golem to pieces in a single move! It would be strange not to support them.
"..." The old man fell silent. He stood up and walked toward the stage.
Faced with the inaction of Class E and the referee himself, he took control of the situation.
"Class F has won. There’s nothing more to say. Starting today, Class F is promoted and becomes, for the first time in history, Class E," he declared openly.
At that moment, system notifications popped up for Lucius.
Earlier, he had earned a milestone for completing a golem in under an hour—and one as impressive as that.
This time...
[A major milestone has been reached...]

[Climb the rankings to receive rewards!]
’Wow, I created a new milestone. Not bad. I’ll become famous when I climb the rankings.’ Lucius smiled.
"Student Lucius, can we speak in private?" the elderly judge asked for the third time. "Now that you’ve won..."
Lucius then realized his mistake. "Oh. I’m sorry. I was distracted." He looked at his companions. "Don’t exclude my companions from your questions; if you don’t, then I have no problem meeting with you in private."
"Oh, of course, they’re all coming with us too." The old man quickly interjected...
"I don’t think so!" Suddenly, Diego roared from across the room.
Finally, his brain was able to process everything that had happened. He ran over to where his destroyed Golem lay... "It must be illegal! That Golem breaks the rules!" He roared again and glared at the old man and the rest of the judges.
"The rules state that any magical tool that exceeds the competition’s rank—even by just one level—is considered an illegal tool. This one clearly is!"
He grabbed the pieces of his Golem. "Look, it’s reinforced metal! Even though it doesn’t contain iron, there’s still no way a Rank 1 could destroy it with a single blow!"
He wasn’t the only one who thought so. Everyone in Class E, including the teacher, came out in defense of that position.
Even many spectators felt the same way.
Lucius could only shrug as everyone turned their attention to him. "If you value your sanity, I recommend you stop investigating. Accept defeat as a way to save yourself." Although his tone was mocking, he meant it.
"Shut up, you bastard! You clearly did something illegal, and that calls for a severe punishment!" Diego roared back.
"That’s right, you have no right to speak!"
"They should throw you to the lions!"
Faced with the relentless criticism, Lucius looked at the judges. "Well? Did I do something illegal?" he asked point-blank.
The judges were unable to respond. To tell the truth, shouldn’t it be considered illegal to use them against their own evidence?
But they couldn’t act with pride and arrogance; that would undermine their neutrality and bring them severe punishment.
"Class F did nothing illegal," declared the elderly judge. "In fact, I must congratulate them. Because I was the one who devised the plan to hinder their tests... but I ended up failing because one boy’s cunning outsmarted me. Your loss in a single move is entirely our fault as judges."
"Huh? He clearly did something illegal—it’s not your fault he’s a cunning bastard!"
The old man finally frowned. "Are you questioning my words as a judge? Diego Clark, that’s an affront! Even though you belong to that family, I can still send you to the dungeons for this!" For the first time, the old man was angry.
Diego felt a jolt inside at the rebuke and swallowed hard. "But, sir..."
"I’ve already told you he didn’t do anything illegal. You’ll see that later when the video is released. If you have any complaints, go to the Judges’ Room after that," the old man declared, glancing toward the stands.
"Although it’s gotten dark, there will be a few more matches in the early morning. Anyone who’d like to stay can have their ticket extended at the entrance. For now, I declare that Jake Lakeside’s Class F has become the new leader of the E Classes, while Lander Konan’s Class E has been relegated to Class F."
With that, the old man tried to say goodbye.
However, suddenly, through the Academy System, a new message reached everyone:
The recently promoted Class E from Jake Lakeside has challenged the leading Class D to a Ranking Battle!
Everyone present was momentarily stunned once again.
