Chapter 93: Chapter 93 Liberation_1

Two days later.

"Camilla, come out!" In the core area, Veronica opened the door of the cell.

"Huh?" Camilla, who had been taking a nap, rolled over and yawned, "Hey, hey, I just got out of solitary and had a meal, now what?"

"You come out when you’re told, why all the chatter? It’s a meeting with the warden, hurry up!" Veronica tapped the door frame with her baton.

"Oh?" Camilla suddenly perked up, "Did that kid really manage it?"

"Who are you calling a kid, you girl not even twenty? If you want to know what’s going on, come out quickly, don’t waste time." Veronica urged.

"Alright, alright, I’m coming." Camilla lazily got up from the bed, feeling much more sluggish than usual, "Sigh, I just don’t have any energy after eating today..."

As soon as she stepped out the door, she stopped in her tracks and whipped her head around to look down the corridor, like a wild animal on alert.

"What is it?" Veronica asked her.

"Hmph, that zombie is staring over here," Camilla said with a cold smirk.

Veronica also turned to look and saw Slyne huddled by the door of cell nineteen, her eyes gleaming with a ghostly light, staring intently in their direction.

"Don’t provoke her, the chief warden is already dealing with your issue." Veronica reminded, "Let’s go."

Camilla wiped her face, trying to shake off the grogginess from just waking up.

But she had only taken one step when she suddenly felt the world spinning.

Veronica, who was waiting for her to walk ahead, immediately noticed her pause and prodded, "What’s wrong now?"

But this time Camilla didn’t answer; her vision darkened abruptly, soon making it impossible for her to discern directions.

An intense dizziness overcame her, and she swayed, unable to steady herself, and then crashed to the ground.

"What are you doing?" Veronica quickly reached out to grab her collar, then noticed her rapidly paling face and her breaths becoming short and quick.

Camilla’s body went limp quickly, and all Veronica could do was lay her down, then immediately blew the whistle to call over the duty guard, "The prisoner’s having a medical emergency! I’ll keep watch here, you go get the prison doctor... and the chief warden! Move it!!"

The on-duty guard rushed out urgently, as Veronica squatted down again to check on Camilla’s condition.

Camilla obviously couldn’t see anything anymore, just gasping for air with her mouth open, like a fish thrown onto the shore.

Slyne, who had been clinging to the bars and staring intensely in this direction, widened her eyes and then twisted her face into a distorted smile.

Meanwhile, Meiruki, sitting in her own cell, also heard the whistle and slowly curved her lips upward.

Two nights before, in the corner of the reading room.

"Given Camilla’s physical condition, you don’t stand a chance even if you ambush her. Poison is the only method with any likelihood of success."

Pretending to pick out books side by side at the bookshelf, Meiruki whispered to Slyne.

"But... in a place like this, where can we get poison?" Slyne asked quietly.

"It’s right here." Meiruki, well-prepared, passed her a book, "This is a good book, I recommend you read it."

Slyne immediately noticed an unnatural gap in the closed book, clearly hiding something.

She quietly opened to that page and saw a pill, the size of a soybean, sandwiched between the pages.

"Be careful, that is a poison potent enough to kill even large magical beasts," Meiruki warned in a low voice. "Even dragonkin, who have resistance to poison, would surely die upon ingestion, with no antidote available."

The ghostly glow in Slyne’s eyes suddenly became more pronounced, the means to truly kill her enemy now seemed within reach.

But she quickly realized a problem, "But I have no chance to administer the poison, the prison makes a point of separating us, be it during work or any other time..."

"Do you know where that guy works?" Meiruki asked.

"It’s over by the greenhouse."

"I know an inmate over there who would risk anything for the right price. As long as the money is good, she’ll probably have the guts to poison for you. The garden area isn’t monitored as strictly as the production lines, it’s relatively lenient. Whether it’s the drinking water or dinner, she should be able to find an opportunity."

"How much money? I can transfer all my remaining controlled funds to you guys!" Slyne nearly raised her voice in her urgency.

Killing Camilla was her sole reason for remaining in this world, and with her days numbered, worldly possessions like money were of almost no use to her.

"Don’t worry, I’ll try my best to help you out," Meiruki said as she took the book back from Slyne’s hand. "So transfer the money to me and I will handle the rest. In two days, as soon as Camilla is out from solitary confinement, we’ll find a way to strike."

...

"No, it won’t work, there’s still no heartbeat!"

Veronica shouted to the prison doctor who was crouched beside her, trying to resuscitate Camilla.

"It’s too late... There are no signs of life left," the doctor wiped the sweat from his forehead and shook his head, his face ashen.

"What happened?" Aiden hurried to the scene and asked as he strode forward.

The exhausted doctor looked at him, "It seems like a reaction to poisoning, she’s already..."

"Gone?" Aiden’s eyes widened, "It hasn’t been but a few minutes, has it?"

"The poison is potent, this is certainly no ordinary toxin," the doctor said gravely.

At that moment, a bout of hysterical laughter suddenly echoed from deep in the corridor, startling them—Slyne was clutching the railing, laughing maniacally and banging her head against the bars: "Dead, she is finally dead!!"

A Resurrected Corpse can sense the location of its enemy’s Spiritual Body, and now she could clearly feel Camilla’s life slipping away, the heartbeat long stopped, and the scent of death gradually diffusing around her body.

Aiden quickly strode to the door of cell nineteen and demanded from Slyne, "Inmate 3271, what exactly did you do!?"

But Slyne ignored him, lost in her own world of crazed laughter. Then, amidst her laughter, she suddenly started crying.

"Beili, my child, Mom has finally... finally avenged you, ah!!" She covered her face, sobbing as she spoke.

Then, a bluish flame burst from her eyes, and a mist-like Spiritual Body rapidly seeped out from her eyes, nose, and mouth.

Her body began to disintegrate, crumbling apart like a sandcastle destroyed by the waves, and in moments, she was reduced to a pile of dust on the ground, with only her prison clothes and manacles buried among the dust.

The escaping Spiritual Body quickly dispersed and then vanished without a trace, and faintly, Aiden heard a prolonged sigh.

In the moment her vengeance was fulfilled, Slyne’s soul finally found its release.

Aiden silently stared at the remains Slyne had left behind for a while, then quickly walked to another cell.

"Oh, what is it, Warden?" Meiruki, sitting inside the cell, stood up in front of the door, smiling composedly. "Surely you aren’t suspecting me in this matter?"

Aiden gave her a look and then took out the keys to open the cell, gesturing with his thumb towards the direction where Camilla lay: "The show’s over, why keep up the act? Hurry up and bring her back already."
