Chapter 608: Chapter 607 Considering the Future_1
Two weeks later, Rose Iron Prison, Warden’s Office.
Aiden concluded the work at hand, brewed himself a cup of tea, and began his brief rest.
Nevertheless, even as he temporarily stepped away from his work, his mind continued to deeply ponder issues—unrelated to his duties, but more urgent than them.
As the Fantasist had said, he had now entered the final stages of the game, approaching the endgame. The hints from the Fantasist were the keys to unlocking this final phase.
However, he was one step away from this endgame; without first resolving the issue with Mr. Bloodveil, everything else was moot.
Over these many days, he had tried to search again for the watchers of the Blood Moon Cult, but they had not appeared again. Mr. Bloodveil would not lack such cannon fodder, and Aiden did not believe Mr. Bloodveil would be stingy with their lives.
It was possible that Mr. Bloodveil had already confirmed enough information and knew that his target for revenge had been promoted to sainthood. Or perhaps the enemy realized they could not probe any further for deeper intelligence, such as the internal affairs of the prison, and simply gave up on the surveillance—after all, even if cannon fodder was sent, there was still the risk of information leaks.
Regardless, this kind of "peace" was hardly reassuring, resembling the calm before a storm.
Aiden had also been gathering intelligence on the resurgent Blood Moon Cult, using the sensors of the Goddess of Vengeance, the Royal Secret Police, and through the heretic inquisition bureaus of Silvertown and Melindale, with the witch assemblies also offering some help. What he could discern was an increase in the number of vampire sightings associated with illegal activities in Melindale and the development of a new religious group within the city’s lower classes.
It was clear that Mr. Bloodveil had stayed in Melindale all this time, focusing on cultivating his cult and amassing troops for future battles.
Fortunately, it was foreseeable that this cult leader’s rate of expanding his influence in the autonomous states would not be quicker than before. His first cult was a division from other cults setting up independently, and the revival of his second was aided by the unrest in the southern regions. Now, it would not be so easy to expand the cult’s power in a peaceful area.
The key was Death’s support for him.
Firstly, it could be fundamentally confirmed that Death would not personally participate in the battle.
Melifilia and Melissa both mentioned Death being severely injured by Melindale, only able to use his authority to enter a "half-dead" state to slow down the erosion.
When Death had vampires investigate the Harvest Mother Cult in the past, the only one truly capable of action was his proxy.
If Death had the ability to personally do something, he likely would not helplessly let a traitor like Mr. Bloodveil go and instead support him from behind.
To date, with Mr. Bloodveil’s arrival in the autonomous states, there has been no major move from Death’s essence. It can be considered that the current Mr. Bloodveil is the spokesperson for Death’s power, and by dealing with him, Death would return to its original state.
Then, another matter is that Mr. Bloodveil now possesses the authority of "Death."
The ruler can grant followers a portion of their powers, and as long as Mr. Bloodveil goes through the ritual of paying a price, he should be able to use all the powers of death, just like the previous proxy of Death.
Of course, this was the most optimistic estimate. If Mr. Bloodveil has a reserve of divinity, or if Death is willing to bestow excess divinity on Mr. Bloodveil, then Mr. Bloodveil could truly hold one or even two Divine Words.
The divine nature of mortals has a limit; becoming a saint of one authority, it is at most possible to master two in an adjacent authority.
Being cautious, it can be estimated that Mr. Bloodveil must hold two "Death" powers, one of which is definitely "Reaping," also known as "Desolation." The effect of this power is simple and crude—to outright take lives.
The previous proxy of Death could only achieve this through direct contact. It seems that if divinity and Divine Words are involved, killing should become much easier—perhaps within firing range, you’re instantly dead, or it could be through eye contact or something else.
Not having specific intelligence on this made Aiden feel very uneasy. To suppress other abilities with "rules," one needs to analyze intelligence beforehand and target them with regulations.
But wanting to find a channel to send someone undercover to the Blood Moon Cult seemed quite unrealistic, for it was possible that anyone sent could end up becoming their zealous follower.
What’s more terrifying is that if Mr. Bloodveil still holds the "Immortality" power, he could recklessly use the double-edged sword of revenge to harm his target severely while facing no threat to his own life.
It would be more challenging than the last encounter—just the thought of this was enough to dishearten anyone.
If by some mischance I were to die...
Aiden almost subconsciously imagined this possibility, then immediately reflected on his pessimistic turn of thought.
But then again, on second thought, this issue did indeed deserve some serious consideration.
Thinking calmly and clearly, the possibility of a Game Over in the divine game’s end wasn’t nonexistent; in fact, it was quite high.
He didn’t really feel like considering what would happen if he failed, to prepare for such a "posthumous" eventuality, but it seemed somewhat necessary...
If he unexpectedly died, and Mr. Bloodveil wasn’t capable of completely erasing "Aiden Galahad" from this world, then the Goddess of Conspiracy and the Fantasist would not hesitate to summon another transmigrator to inherit everything of his.
Would that guy take good care of this prison for me? The question popped into Aiden’s mind.
Aiden then realized that, once he considered his own death, the thing he found hardest to let go of seemed to be the job he had devoted himself to since arriving in this world.
Even if "Aiden Galahad" failed, Rose Iron Prison might not necessarily be destroyed. Neither Mr. Bloodveil nor the Goddess of Conspiracy might have any interest in this prison filled with mortal women.
In the six years since he’d arrived in this world, he’d spent almost all his time working in this place. To say he wasn’t a bit concerned would be impossible. After all, managing such a dire place to its current orderly state had also taken a lot of his effort.
But as for who could be entrusted with such a "posthumous" matter...
Considering this question did not take Aiden much time; the answer almost immediately surfaced in his mind—Veronica.
It’s been nearly a year since meeting this person, and in this short time, this girl had become the most trusted person in this world to him. Thinking about it now, it seemed to be a curious twist of fate.
If the worst were to be prepared for, the only thing to do was to outline the general situation to her and then leave her everything that could be entrusted.
Thinking this, Aiden rose from his seat and left the office.
