Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Kill Him_1

"The wise choice you speak of..." Aiden stared intently into Daili’s eyes, "refers to this kind of betrayal?"

"Of course, if there’s a benefit to be had, I see no reason not to do it." Daili smiled elegantly.

"Fool, do you still think you’re in control of the situation? The demonic contracts you placed on them have been lifted!" Ophelia finally lost her temper and taunted Aiden loudly.

"Lifted?" Aiden pondered for a moment, then his eyes widened slightly as if realizing something.

With a slight turn of his head, he saw Asenna already pointing a long-handled Magic Wand at his back.

"That’s right." Asenna pushed up her glasses.

"I’ve done quite a bit of research on non-summoning demonic contracts as well. You should be aware of that, right?" Meiruki chuckled, "I’m taking my daughter with me, how could I possibly allow her life to remain in your hands?"

Demonic contracts, as the name implies, are pacts between casters and demons from other worlds, offering sacrifices to demons in exchange for rewards. They represent a very convenient way to obtain power, with the only downside being a hefty price to pay.

The type of contracts Daili excelled in were summoning contracts. After offering sacrifices, one would gain the qualification to summon and command demons.

Meiruki, on the other hand, specialized in power contracts. After sacrificing to demons, a practitioner would be directly granted the demon’s own powers. Abilities like the twin killers’ petrifying demon claws and Avansa’s shape-shifting came from this type of contract.

The contracts that Aiden used on Daili and the others were also the latter type. However, his purpose for using this contract was not for the power obtained upon its completion but for the contract itself.

He made himself the master of the contract, but the sacrifices offered were the hearts of the three prisoners. The moment he activated the contract, Daili and the others would die instantly from their hearts bursting. Aiden was only interested in the contract’s threat over the prisoners.

But now, Meiruki had lifted that contract.

"It’s the end of the road for you, warden." Ophelia grinned and laughed, "Today, I’ll personally see you off and drain you of your blood!"

She was just too happy. She had waited too long for this day.

She was captured by this man, interrogated by this man, and even when she was transferred to another prison, this persistent shadow followed to guard her, thwarting her escape plans and humiliating her relentlessly.

Worse still, when this man first apprehended and interrogated her, he was cool and detached, but once he became the warden, he changed completely, mocking her to no end—focusing all his efforts on targeting her specifically.

This guy was her nemesis, the biggest stain on her eternal life. Not a day went by without her imagining how to bite through this man’s throat and drain all the blood from his body.

Aiden, leaning on his cane, gazed at Ophelia: "You’re really getting carried away, vampire. You understand the principle that a cornered beast will bite, don’t you? Even if I can’t beat all of you, I can at least try to take one with me. You’re eager to accompany me, aren’t you?"

Although he said this, Aiden was quite clear in his mind that with his current strength, not to mention fighting off several people in a forced exchange, he almost had no chance of winning against Ophelia even in a one-on-one fight.

The previous owner of this body was indeed an extremely gifted warrior, one of the most formidable, with marksmanship, swordsmanship, and black Magic all at his fingertips. He could win against monsters like Ophelia with the enhancement of the Heretical Inquisition’s top-notch equipment.

As for him, although he inherited the former owner’s memories and skills, even after some practice, the proficiency and experience were still worlds apart.

Moreover, now that he had switched to being a prison guard, he didn’t have access to such sophisticated equipment, and his combat power was, at best, around sixty percent of the original Aiden’s. He could make do against slightly combative humans like thief Katherine and pirate Anna, but against red-alert-level criminals like Ophelia, he was no match at all.

Since arriving in this world, he hadn’t any golden fingers or fortuitous encounters. By transmigrators’ standards, he belonged to the category of those who were rather unambitious.

Even so, he was quite adept at bluffing.

It was a professional habit of his to establish authority in front of the prisoners; he could never afford to lose in terms of imposing presence.

As an elite member of the Heresy Inquisition Bureau, the former Aiden’s reputation was still rather prominent among the inmates, and Aiden did not mind using that reputation to intimidate them. He would use every resource available in the prison to his advantage.

This time, Ophelia was also taken in by his bluff.

Observing Aiden’s composed demeanor, with a face that screamed, "If you want to fight, let’s fight," she couldn’t help but tone down her arrogance and said cautiously to the others, "Just to be safe, let’s all attack together. After we kill him, I’ll drink his blood!"

But at that moment, Meiruki raised her hand and said, "Let’s have my side handle it."

After speaking, she pushed Avansa, who had been staring blankly at Aiden, to the front and whispered softly, "Go on, Vannie, kill him."

Her tone was exceptionally calm, as if she were asking someone to help with the cooking, like peeling an onion or chopping some vegetables.

"Kill..." Avansa repeated before suddenly realizing what was asked of her. She turned her head to look at Meiruki, "Kill him?"

"Let’s see if your skills have deteriorated over the years," Meiruki place her hand on Avansa’s head and repeated the command, "Kill that man, and then we can go home."

Avansa looked at Aiden, whose expression remained calm, "You had made a promise with me, no more killing people at will, that’s the rule, whether we are here or outside."

Confusion crossed Avansa’s face; she distinctly remembered the rules Aiden had taught her. She had survived in this prison by adhering to those rules, and it had taken her considerable effort to adapt.

But now, "Mother" had suddenly appeared here, commanding her to break that rule.

From a young age, Meiruki trained her like a killing machine, and her thinking had been conditioned to be singular and mechanical.

Machines operate according to regulations, and she too lived by following the rules, like a machine. In the past, she followed "Mother’s" orders, but now she followed the rules taught by Aiden. Now confronted with contradicting rules, she became like a machine that had encountered an error in its instructions and ceased to function.

Seeing no reaction from Avansa, Meiruki’s expression turned sour.

From the moment she saw Avansa again, she had been aware.

In the two years spent in the prison, that prison warden seemed to have significantly weakened the brainwashing effects she had instilled in Avansa.

This was unacceptable to her; Avansa was her finest creation, and she would not allow others to tamper with her.

Therefore, Meiruki decided to command Avansa to personally kill Aiden right there, as the best way to wash away the "negative influence" Aiden had on her.

After all, her handcrafted Avansa was born to kill!
