Chapter 567: Chapter 567: The Lawless Classroom_1
"Anchor one end of a line segment and rotate the line segment around that point for one full turn, the closed curve traced by the other end of the line segment is a circle. This fixed point is the center of the circle, while the line segment itself is the radius of the circle. Therefore, we can define a circle as the set of all points that are equidistant from a fixed point..." Tony Dodge stood at the podium with a tense expression as he lectured, "So, am I being a bit too boring?"
Below the podium, several girls let their minds wander in front of their desks. Some were daydreaming, some were doodling in their workbooks, some were passing notes, and there were also students who were slightly more serious about their studies, sneakily writing today’s homework.
Aiden stood outside in the corridor, observing the situation inside through the one-way glass, with Veronica by his side. The students inside couldn’t see the two of them through this window.
"The effect doesn’t seem to be particularly good," Aiden said with a wry smile.
"Yeah, although he has a solid grasp of the textbook material, Tony doesn’t command enough authority as a teacher, considering he’s about the same age as these kids," Veronica agreed. "I feel like you suddenly putting him in as a substitute teacher is like throwing him into the lion’s den."
"Indeed, he lacks experience dealing with criminals, and his approach is too gentle," Aiden observed the students below.
The detention center’s core area didn’t hold many juvenile offenders—only twelve. With the exception of special cases like Avansa and the twin assassins, most of the young offenders were around sixteen years old, making Tony look like a peer in their eyes.
"Maybe we should have a guard from the surveillance post stay in the classroom," Veronica suggested.
"Let’s wait and see," Aiden said.
"But Chief, half of these kids still have really bad temperaments; who knows what trouble they might cause," Veronica expressed her concerns.
"If anything happens, Avansa will suppress the situation immediately," Aiden gestured dismissively. "Look, she’s being fairly diligent, isn’t she? Always looking at her textbook and taking notes."
"Chief," Veronica’s expression was complex, "from my experience as a substitute teacher, she probably has a magazine hidden in her textbook."
Aiden was startled, "But she’s still taking notes..."
"I’ve seen her notebook; it’s mostly full of doodles," Veronica paused, "She’s actually quite slick in class. During tests, she sometimes cheats with crib notes. She’s quick to react and has fast hands, making it hard to catch her."
"I had thought... she was quite well-behaved," Aiden laughed bitterly. He didn’t know every prisoner that well.
"After all, slacking off is human nature," Veronica stated.
Inside the classroom, a female offender raised her hand and spoke in a nonchalant tone, "Teacher, why bother with such a troublesome definition, and why do we have to memorize it for the test? A circle is just a circle, right?"
"Eh? Well..." Tony was caught off guard, "Um, definitions are necessary. Only something that meets the definition is a circle..."
"Like your head, right?" The offender pointed at Tony with a mischievous smirk.
Her comment sparked a burst of laughter in the room.
"Please, please don’t make fun of the teacher," Tony said, extremely embarrassed.
"Ple-ple-please, don’t make fun of the teacher!" another girl exaggeratedly mimicked Tony’s stammer, then burst into laughter, "Hahahaha, look at his dumb face!"
Tony’s face turned beet red, unsure of how to respond. He didn’t have much experience interacting with others and didn’t know how to handle being mocked like this.
Realizing that this new teacher seemed easier to bully than expected, and that the surveilling guard had just stepped away for a moment, the classroom "livened" up—sliding in a very bad direction.
"This guy has no presence at all."
"Hey, teacher, let’s not have class. Let’s play some games instead!"
"Yo, Spikehead, is this wimp related to you?"
"Fuck your mom, it’s your relatives, right!"
...
The chaos at the scene became uncontrollable, and a few rowdy students started wrestling each other, ignoring Tony completely.
At that moment one student snatched the set square from the desk, which was used for drawing.
"Hey!" Tony exclaimed.
"This can’t go on," Veronica said as she picked up the whistle and put it to her lips, ready to burst through the door.
Amidst the raucous noise, Avansa’s attention shifted away from the comic book hidden in her textbook, and she looked up to see the classroom in utter pandemonium.
"If you’ve got the guts, come and get it," the girl said as she threw the set square to a distant friend, aiming for the back row seats.
But she threw it too hard, and as the set square twirled through the air, her friend couldn’t catch it even with a jump.
The set square drew a parabola through the air, heading straight for a girl dozing off in a corner seat—despite the hullabaloo, she was still sound asleep.
Seeing that the girl was about to be hit, Tony’s heart skipped a beat, and in his agitation, he accidentally uttered a divine word—since he was already possessed by a demon, he could speak this inhuman language without any extra effort.
Then he lifted his hand and pointed.
At that moment, Avansa had already dashed to the front of the seat, ready to catch the set square. What she then witnessed was astonishing: as it spun, the set square twisted and elongated into a fine thread, quickly shrinking to a point, and then vanished completely.
Avansa was stunned for a moment.
The other riotous students were just as stunned, falling quiet as soon as Tony uttered the divine language. To them, the divine language was like the roar of a monster, inexplicably chilling to the heart.
When they saw Tony casually point and make the set square disappear into thin air without a trace, the room fell into a dead silence.
The sudden quiet woke the dozing student, who shivered between sleep and wakefulness. Confusedly lifting her face, she saw everyone standing up and rubbed her eyes, "Is class over?"
Cold sweat began to run down the faces of some students. Among them were those who had apprenticed under wizards and knew a bit about black magic. The phenomenon they had just witnessed was something that ordinary black magic could never achieve.
With a loud bang, Veronica burst through the door, with a stern expression.
"Those who just stood up and created a ruckus, step forward," Veronica said coldly, "I saw it all from the outside. Own up, and don’t try to muddle through, or the punishment will be doubled!"
The students who were just playing around exchanged glances and timidly lined up by the door.
"You there, sleeping during class, wipe that smile off your face, and come out too!" Veronica pointed to the corner.
The student could no longer smile.
"And you!" Veronica’s stern gaze swept over to Avansa.
Having just returned to her seat, Avansa froze and whispered, "But I didn’t do anything!"
"Hand over the book you’ve hidden in your textbook!" Veronica said unyieldingly.
