Chapter 496: Chapter 497: Contacting the Hall of Vengeance_1
"So what you’re saying is, I can only rely on myself for the investigation from this point on?" Aiden asked, looking into the eyes of the receptionist.
"Yes. But look on the bright side, if the Kingdom’s Intelligence Agency wants to investigate you, we can refuse them for the same reasons," the receptionist replied without changing his expression. "Intelligence departments have their secrets, and not probing each other’s secrets is an unwritten rule that allows us to coexist peacefully. As for the Kingdom’s Intelligence Agency, we will neither assist nor obstruct your investigation."
"That’s a pity," Aiden said genuinely.
"Please understand."
"What about the investigation into the Resurrectionists? Have you made any progress there?" Aiden brought the topic back up.
"The investigation’s findings are the same as before. The Resurrectionists are everywhere, inciting animosity between the refugees and the government. Now it’s not just the heretic inquisition, but even the public security police are keeping an eye on them," the receptionist replied with a helpless shake of his head. "But our informants haven’t made any progress; it is said that the cult’s pope has not been seen for quite some time."
"On that note, I actually have some intelligence to share with you. The pope of the Resurrectionists is currently busy attempting to subvert one of your Kingdom’s Intelligence Agency’s stations," Aiden lowered his voice.
"How did you come to know this?" the receptionist asked suspiciously.
"You don’t need to know how I came to know this. It’s not your job to ask, is it?" Aiden smiled. "You just need to relay this information to your superiors, and they’ll understand."
The receptionist was taken aback, then nodded, "Alright, I understand."
"Good," Aiden nodded with satisfaction.
As long as the receptionist relayed the message in this manner to Heinz, Heinz would understand that Mr. Bloodshirt had uncovered the secrets of the Sunset City base and had taken action—the man had used his own powers to subvert the officers to his side.
Aiden hoped that Heinz would reveal this to the military, drawing the attention of the Sunset City base to the Resurrectionists and remaining vigilant for Mr. Bloodshirt’s espionage activities, given that Qiqimora and the others could no longer use the same methods.
Now they could act more boldly, more audaciously explore the core area, assassinate officers controlled by Mr. Bloodshirt, and seize some internal personnel to conduct interrogations using the Wordless Code, and so on. As long as their group had not been exposed to the military, all these actions would be blamed on the Resurrectionists.
While the Sunset City base remained on alert against the Resurrectionists, they could logically stage a surprise attack on the base and steal its research results.
But to take action against a military base, they would need a substantial number of people. Mr. Bloodshirt had likely already established a small force inside the base, under his control. If they rushed in recklessly, they had to be prepared for a direct conflict. Even if they wanted to avoid conflict and rely solely on Qiqimora’s divine words to steal, it would be difficult to ensure the success of the mission.
"Hey kid, you’ve hemmed and hawed long enough, don’t you think?" the Goddess of Vengeance grew increasingly impatient. "Hurry up and get to the point!"
Aiden thought to himself that what he had been talking about was exactly the point...
However, obviously, to the Goddess of Vengeance herself, the question Aiden was about to ask was the main event.
"Actually, I have another request," Aiden said bluntly.
"Go ahead."
"Can you tell me, how to contact the Sanctuary of Vengeance’s mercenary group?" Aiden asked deliberately and clearly.
Contacting the Sanctuary of Vengeance—something the Goddess of Vengeance had clamored about several times since she had awakened. Only now, when they truly needed manpower, did Aiden start to consider it seriously.
The current Sanctuary of Vengeance was filled with terrorists who saw igniting ethnic conflicts and starting wars as their job. Its core members were likely zealots developed by the Goddess of Vengeance with her "sacrifice" ability, who were prepared to die for the cause without any regrets.
These people would obey the Goddess of Vengeance’s commands, and Aiden, who was currently embodying the Goddess of Vengeance, should be able to direct them if authorized by her.
Aiden also knew that this didn’t mean he could take the matter lightly, even with the constraints of the Wordless Code, the Goddess of Vengeance wouldn’t become a docile sheep, she was still a high-risk prisoner he had to confine within the prison of his body.
But with no external support available and even the secret police unwilling to get too involved, they indeed needed extra help.
Upon hearing Aiden’s question, the receptionist’s expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained control of his expressions, reverting to normal.
"You’re asking about this, what for?" he asked in a steady voice.
"Didn’t you say you wouldn’t have any suspicions of me?" Aiden raised an eyebrow.
The receptionist was momentarily speechless, then he spoke cautiously after a moment’s thought, "I apologize, but mentioning the Sanctuary of Vengeance specifically... I assume you must know something, so..."
"Don’t worry, I’m not some war correspondent," Aiden waved his hand.
He understood the receptionist’s unease. Although even local newspaper columnists knew about the war in the southern parts of the continent and the unbecoming role the Gistas Kingdom might have played, such matters had not been confirmed.
At the time, it was the Sanctuary of Vengeance, the remaining followers of the Goddess of Vengeance, that the Gistas Kingdom had hired for this scheme, and it seemed the secret police had also been somewhat involved in the matter. Naturally, it was kept secret.
Aiden specifically asking the secret police about how to contact the Sanctuary of Vengeance was akin to telling the receptionist, "I know everything."
If he publicized these details, it would undoubtedly cause severe damage to the international image of the Gistas Kingdom.
If it were someone else making such an inquiry, the receptionist might have considered silencing or imprisoning them.
After pondering for a good while, the receptionist gave a measured response, "I will need to consult my superiors about this matter. May I provide you with an answer this evening?"
"Of course, that’s no problem."
"Then... that’s all you’re asking for?" the receptionist asked tentatively.
Aiden could tell from his demeanor that the receptionist was hoping he wouldn’t make any more troublesome requests.
"That’ll be all," Aiden let him off the hook.
After the two exchanged hats in farewell, Aiden left the contact point and went out to the streets.
"Finally, I can take a good look at how many of my followers are left," the Goddess of Vengeance laughed loudly beside him, though naturally, not a single passerby on the street could hear her.
"Just make sure you don’t quietly cook up some trouble when the time comes," Aiden suddenly said.
"Do you really think I’d say ’okay’?" the Goddess of Vengeance looked back at him, her expression partly challenging.
"No, just a preemptive warning," Aiden smiled.
