Chapter 423: Chapter 423: The Madman Who Regained Sanity_1

In the evening, inside a side room of the core area medical office, Veronica monitored as Meiruki attended to Halo, who was awakening from a stupor, conducting a physical examination.

"Is everything alright now?" Veronica asked.

"At least her heart rate and pulse have stabilized, as for consciousness...," Meiruki, who was examining Halo, replied, "half the time she’s like this anyway."

Tied to the bed, Halo stared blankly at the ceiling, completely unresponsive to Meiruki’s touch.

"We can take her back to her cell; after several days of hibernation, she needs to eat something. She probably won’t have much of an appetite, so we can’t let her eat too much at once—small, frequent meals." Meiruki stood up.

"Let’s keep her restrained for now; I’ll consult first," Veronica said, watching Halo for a moment, "You go and get her something easy to swallow."

Aiden had specifically instructed that he be notified when Halo woke up, and Veronica decided she shouldn’t unbind this individual on her own.

"Alright." Meiruki nodded, then suddenly reached out and unfastened the strap restraint, "Huh?"

Meiruki let out a sound of surprise, and at the same time, her hands swiftly released another restraint strap.

"What are you doing!?" Veronica yelled sharply.

"My body... it’s not obeying me!" Meiruki screamed.

Veronica acted decisively, rushing forward and kicking Meiruki to the ground, preventing her from further action.

Fortunately, not all the restraints binding Halo’s body were buckles that could be easily undone; two of the chains were locked, and the keys were held by a guard.

Suddenly, Halo’s vacant eyes regained their sharpness as she turned to look at Veronica.

Veronica’s heart skipped a beat, and at that moment, Halo spoke, "Then it’s your turn."

In that instant, Veronica felt an invisible force seize control of her body, and then, contrary to her will, her body moved—drawing her gun and firing two shots, breaking the locks on the chains.

She finally understood firsthand that Meiruki’s earlier claim was not some lame excuse—it was true, her body was no longer under her control!

Halo reached out, and Veronica’s body involuntarily handed over the gun to her.

As Halo took possession of the gun, Veronica felt the controlling force vanish, and she regained control of her body.

She immediately reached out to grab the gun, and with her strength, she could easily have broken Halo’s wrist with one hand.

For a moment, she remembered Halo’s ability to turn attacks against her attacker, but then she realized this wasn’t the time to worry about such nuances.

However, that moment of hesitation allowed Halo to escape her grasp; she rolled off the bed, rose to her feet, and aimed the gun at Veronica.

Veronica dropped to the ground in time, as the bullets narrowly missed her, hitting the wall.

After ducking, Veronica immediately grabbed the edge of the bed and flipped it over, pinning Halo beneath it.

Suddenly, the alarm blared outside—the on-duty medical officer, having heard the gunshots and commotion, had instantly pressed the alarm.

Veronica suddenly realized, her loss of control was clearly due to some creepy trick of Halo’s, and should other armed riot squad members approach Halo without warning... the outcome could be unthinkable.

With that thought, she immediately twisted around and rushed towards the door.

By the time Halo struggled to crawl out from under the hospital bed, Veronica had already burst out of the inner room. All she saw was Meiruki, who was having difficulty getting up from the ground.

"Eh?" As their eyes met, Meiruki was taken aback.

Half a minute later, when Halo stepped out of the now deserted infirmary with Meiruki as a hostage, she was greeted by five guns aimed at the infirmary door—the nearby riot squad had arrived at the scene.

Under Veronica’s command, all the squad members had drawn a distance of about ten meters in the hallway and from the infirmary.

Veronica herself also held a gun taken from one of the squad members, pointing it at Halo.

"This is really bad..." Meiruki’s face darkened. She was being pointed at with a gun from behind by Halo and didn’t dare to make any sudden moves.

"No one get close to her, keep your distance!" Veronica said and then began warning Halo, "Go back! Otherwise, I’ll shoot!"

She judged that Halo’s ability must have a distance limitation; if not, anything she did would be useless.

"Can your marksmanship bypass this human shield and hit me?" Halo suddenly laughed, "Even if you can hit me, you’ll die too."

Veronica’s eyes widened in surprise—Halo had never spoken so coherently and clearly before.

This lunatic had slept for several days and suddenly became normal!

Halo pushed Meiruki forward with the gun, and as she took a step, Veronica suddenly aimed at Halo’s leg and fired. The bullet grazed Halo’s leg, and at the same time, Veronica also felt a pang of pain in her own leg.

"Quite the risk-taker, aren’t you." Halo immediately turned her body, letting Meiruki completely shield her.

A cold sweat broke out on Meiruki’s forehead; had that shot deviated a little more, it would have hit her leg. At the same time, she noticed Veronica’s eyes, which were cold and fierce, much like those of the assassins she had trained before—an intuition told her that this woman wouldn’t hesitate to shoot now.

Then, Veronica started to shout at Halo: "The woman you’re holding is full of evil deeds. If you really plan to use this hostage, I don’t mind helping you make a hole in her first."

"Officer? Are you joking?" Meiruki laughed somewhat forcedly.

"Besides, I don’t mind putting some holes in you as well and then lying next to you in the emergency room!" Veronica ignored her and continued shouting at Halo, "I’m a werewolf; my body is much tougher than yours. We can see who can survive this! If you don’t want to die, get back!!"

"Hahahahahaha!!" Halo burst into laughter upon hearing this, "Interesting, little girl! I really like your crazy spirit, are you interested in becoming my follower?"

"Follower?" Veronica frowned in confusion.

"So lively, are you having a celebration?" Aiden’s voice suddenly sounded behind Veronica.

Veronica was overjoyed; as long as the warden was here, she felt confident.

"Who is it this time?" Halo narrowed her eyes, looking over Meiruki’s shoulder.

Upon seeing Aiden, her eyes widened slightly. The scenes from that day flashed through her mind again; the man wearing the mask possessed the protectiveness of the other rulers of the "Spirit" throne.

And this man, although not the same person, carried the same "flavor" of soul—without a doubt, this guy was definitely involved with that conspirator bitch!

"Heh heh, what a surprise!" Halo’s face twisted into a malicious smile, "It turns out that bitch’s lapdogs aren’t just one!"
