Chapter 325: Chapter 325 Don’t Ask, I’m Really Not Familiar_1
Amber-colored sparkling wine flowed into the glass, and Sophie Carter’s eyes lit up as she lifted the glass towards the white wall, examining the wine inside. She then brought the glass close to her nose and took a gentle sniff.
"The wine from the Griffon Winery is better in hue than I imagined, it’s a shame I missed out on it at that time," Sophie remarked nonchalantly before taking a sip, "Unfortunately, the wine is still a bit warm at this temperature. Can we get an ice bucket over here?"
"You should be glad you get to drink at all," Aiden replied coldly, the luxury completely outside his everyday life. To him, Sophie’s style was just an extravagance.
"To have such rare good wine in hand, yet not knowing how to appreciate it, you’d become a tasteless nouveau riche," Sophie said.
"I wouldn’t mind becoming a nouveau riche," Aiden said, unfazed.
"Speaking of which, are you not drinking yourself?" Sophie noticed that Aiden wasn’t pouring himself any wine.
"I’m still working," Aiden sat down opposite Sophie, "The wine is for you, now speak honestly."
"After drinking such good wine, of course, I’ll speak honestly," Sophie took another sip of wine, "But before I reveal the answer, why don’t you, the warden, have a guess?"
"Do you really want to say it or not?" Aiden suspected she was being enigmatic on purpose.
"I just want to talk with you a bit more, just guess once," Sophie said, raising a finger.
"The ’Existence’ Authority?" Aiden guessed.
He thought so because he noticed whether Sophie was disguised as a maid or in her true form, there was an inexplicably conspicuous feeling about her, which was fitting since he knew a witch whose characteristic was the exact opposite.
In contrast to "Void," the "Existence" Authority was indeed what Sophie could be manipulating, not altering appearances, but rather, the perception of someone’s existence. Her attention-grabbing trait was likely due to this authority’s influence.
"That’s exactly right," Sophie said with an elegant smile.
"Switching yourself with a maid, and the maid with you, there’s something off about the duration and range of this ability of yours," Aiden continued to inquire, "Is it because you are near enough to the Divine Artifact, or... is someone else assisting you?"
Mortals use the power of a Divine Artifact with certain limitations, which Aiden knew all too well.
"My maid also possesses abilities; this is the result of us using our powers in tandem," Sophie replied indifferently.
"To have a god’s authority as well, she is indeed a high-class maid," Aiden frowned.
"I’ve told you, her primary role is to be my stand-in; strictly speaking, Sophie Carter has always been two people. I handle the forefront, she manages the back end and all the other troubles," Sophie explained.
"Then I’m really confused now. If Miss Maid is responsible for the background work, why didn’t she infiltrate this prison?" Aiden posed the question skeptically, "Do you two really need to go to the extent of getting imprisoned?"
To probe into his intelligence and turn him into a client, going to the length of getting jailed seemed too far-fetched. Moreover, since it was under the guise of the maid, it would’ve been more sensible for the maid to undertake this task, allowing Sophie to continue her life as a star outside without needing to take a break from the stage.
"Well, I mentioned the reason. I’m a fan of yours, and it’s normal for a fan to want to get close to their idol, right?" Sophie pointed at Aiden, "That’s the honest truth."
"All because I defeated the Red Shark Pirate Crew?" Aiden was puzzled.
"You shouldn’t belittle yourself. Although the pirate didn’t understand how precious the treasure he stumbled upon was, he was aware of the artifact’s power. The Scales of Aequitas knew the whereabouts of the Wordless Code all along, and any saint close to the ’Order’ Authority could sense the location of The Codex. Yet, to this day, no one else has taken the authority from a clueless pirate—only because of the Wordless Code’s characteristic," Sophie said passionately, "I’m curious, how exactly did you do it?"
"Is this information something you want to trade for?" Aiden asked back.
Even ordinary people could use the rules on the Wordless Code to prevent it from being stolen or taken by force. Even if they used a ’fishing’ tactic to lure the pirate holding the Wordless Code into a robbery, if the holder was cautious enough to protect themselves with the Wordless Code, only sending their subordinates to commit the robbery, it would be enough to make it difficult for anyone.
Aiden had succeeded in stealing the Wordless Code by relying entirely on Melissa’s arrangement of "right place and time," along with the "people harmony" provided by Qiqimora.
These insiders seemed to have not yet found out about this.
"This is just out of my own curiosity, I would prefer to find it out on my own," Sophie smiled.
"I don’t like being investigated," Aiden replied.
"But I already did some digging into you. I’m interested in you, not just because you caught the Pirate King. I also know that you captured a blood prince from a death-cult worshipping sect and worked with the Witch’s Sabbat to bring down the Black Goat cult of the Old Lese Kingdom. I’ve come to learn a bit about your work with the Inquisition back in the day..." Sophie suddenly clapped her hands together, "Truly impressive, almost like a superhero."
"Most of those were just part of the job," Aiden said truthfully.
His confrontations with those forces were not just about the Divine Artifacts, but mainly because they interfered with his work in the prison.
"Still, I find it truly remarkable. By the way, have you ever listened to my songs?" Sophie asked with an expectant look, "If you’re also a fan of my music, then it would be a ’mutual adoration’ situation."
"Then I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you, I hardly ever go to the opera," Aiden shrugged, "I don’t really know much about you, only heard your name recently."
"No way, you must have at least heard about me from the media, right? Last year, I was named the Star of the Year by ’Performance’ magazine," seeing Aiden’s increasingly perplexed expression, Sophie was taken aback, "You haven’t seen it?"
"Sorry," was all Aiden could say.
"What about my cover on the ’Trend’ magazine? The posters that were issued before? I also starred in that very popular opera before, called..."
"Stop asking, really not familiar," Aiden waved his hand dismissively, "Sorry, but I really don’t know much in this area."
"That’s too bad," Sophie Carter sighed in disappointment, "I thought I was quite well-known."
"Don’t be so down, it’s just that I don’t follow entertainment news much," Aiden consoled her, then posed another question, "Okay, even if you really wanted to meet me up close, a direct meeting would have sufficed, no need to get yourself into prison. There must be another reason you haven’t mentioned, right?"
