Chapter 279: Chapter 279: A Glance and They Both Seem Like Pushovers_1

The next evening, Flandre knocked on Aiden’s office once more.

"Prisoner 3677’s prison orientation has concluded," Flandre reported to Aiden.

"After spending a night in solitary, did this one become even a bit more obedient?" Aiden slowed the work in his hands and casually asked.

"No, she didn’t show any intention to cooperate, has reached the point where she could be thrown into solitary again. If Veronica hadn’t been keeping watch in the orientation room, I reckon she would’ve flipped the table over."

"Hmm, as expected," Aiden looked up.

"Shall I take her to the cell now? Or..." Flandre hesitated, "Honestly, I think with the way she is right now, she’ll likely stir up trouble if she’s put into the cell."

Aiden caught Flandre’s drift; since Annie was uncooperative even during the prison orientation, they had a reason to throw her in solitary again to take the edge off her.

"No need, she’s only full of herself now because she firmly believes she’ll eventually escape from this prison, whatever we do to her is in vain, take her to the cell..." Aiden was in mid-sentence when he suddenly remembered something, "Right, which cell was she assigned to?"

Flandre checked the information in her hand: "Cell number thirteen..."

"Thirteen again?" Aiden frowned slightly.

"Yes, the previous inmate was a fugitive from Gistas, extradited last week, leaving the cell vacant. It was assigned directly in sequence... just happens to be that cell," Flandre responded, "Should I change it to another cell?"

"No need, let her live with that succubus and see how it goes. Putting a prisoner with escape tendencies together with her might just sway her. Fille’s sentence is only about half a year left, unless she’s brain-damaged, she wouldn’t think of escaping," Aiden waved his hand dismissively.

"But what if she picks a fight, causing a conflict..."

"Then Fille will teach her a good lesson," Aiden answered calmly, "Fille might not be that capable, but she’s an old timer who’s been in here five times, she won’t be bullied by a pirate who only knows some low-level dark magic."

At dusk, the core area inmates finished their day’s labor, had dinner, got some time outside, and now returned to their respective cells.

Veronica was escorting the new inmate 3677, Annie Drake, into the core area, leading her to cell number thirteen.

Inside, Fille, who had been lying on the bed flipping through a forbidden magazine, heard the approaching footsteps, flipped over abruptly, and stuffed the magazine into folded blankets.

"Prisoner 3307, what are you doing?" Veronica noticed her unnaturally quick movement and frowned at her.

"Nothing, sis, just doing yoga on the bed!" Fille sat cross-legged on the bed and gave Veronica a dry laugh.

"...Everything in moderation," Veronica shook her head, after all, she’d lived with Fille for a while and knew full well what she was like.

She unlocked the door and gestured for Annie to enter.

"New cellmate, get along well," Veronica said as she closed and locked the cell door, then walked away.

Fille sized up Annie instinctively: an arrogant expression, a demeanor desperately trying to not appear weak yet overly aggressive, an overall presence that was far from the real heavyweights in the prison, and given the color of her prison uniform, her security level was merely blue.

Meanwhile, Annie looked her new roommate up and down: the horns on her head, and that tail... Clearly a succubus, who didn’t have any particularly strong combat abilities. Once their magic power was sealed, they were basically no different from an ordinary person.

After sizing each other up, the same thought unexpectedly popped into both of their minds simultaneously: She seems pretty weak.

"Welcome, sis, you can call me Fille," after a brief moment of thought, Fille quickly put on a friendly and approachable expression and greeted the other person, "You don’t look like you’re from around here, where are you from?"

In prison, she wasn’t the type to try sitting on top of someone else’s head, preferring to avoid trouble whenever possible. She would try her best to get along with a cellmate.

"Don’t play the old-timer with me, and I don’t like succubi." Annie didn’t hide her contempt as she set down her belongings next to her bunk and sat down on the bed, "I’ve been preached at all day, my shoulders are stiff. Come and give me a massage."

She was used to the feeling of being a leader on a pirate ship, and the moment she entered this cell, she thought of training this seemingly frail succubus into her flunky.

Before long, she would be able to leave this prison and regain her freedom; she didn’t need to build a good relationship with the prisoners here. In fact, since she would be leaving soon, she didn’t have to be particularly cautious about anything during her time in prison.

Fille was taken aback for a moment, then realized the other person was trying to intimidate her.

She thought to herself, here comes another greenhorn...

"Look, sis, this attitude isn’t fun, is it?" She raised her hand to scratch her head, "We’re all here to serve our time and then leave, why make it hard for each other?"

"The only person here who has to finish their prison food before leaving is you," Annie said coldly, "I am Annie Drake, ever heard of me?"

"Don’t know you," Fille shook her head, looking bewildered.

"My father is the Pirate King of the Coral Sea Domain..."

"Not familiar," Fille continued to shake her head.

"You’ve never heard of the Red Shark Pirate Crew?"

"Not really clear..." Fille still shook her head.

"Truly clueless." Annie frowned displeased, "Four years ago, I was in the largest capital prison of the Empire. I escaped from there after just one week. It won’t be long before my father comes to rescue me from this place."

"Oh? Sounds pretty impressive," Fille looked at Annie with a gaze full of pity.

She remembered all too well what had happened to the last inmate who shared a cell with her and tried to escape from here.

"You don’t believe me?" Annie sensed that Fille might be mocking her and glared at her.

"I believe, I believe." Fille quickly raised her hands in compliance, "But what does it have to do with me?"

"If you show some savvy, I might just be kind enough to take you with me..." Annie pointed at Fille and said.

"Eh? No thanks!" Fille refused without hesitation, even making a disgusted face, "I have just over half a year left on my sentence, why would I want to escape now and become a fugitive? Even if I’m caught for pimping once I’m out, at most I’ll be locked up for another year, but if I escape and get caught, there’s no telling how long they’ll lock me up!"
