Chapter 266: Chapter 266 Ancestor’s Letter_1

The next morning, in the inner corridor of the meeting room in the Rose Iron Prison Core Zone.

Under the watch of her guard, Veronica, Ophelia arrived at the entrance of the meeting room.

"Yesterday, the ’assistant’ you provided proved useful, so I declare your observation period officially over," Aiden took out a bottle containing ash-colored smoke, "I’m returning it to you now."

"Hmph, at least you know what’s good for you," Ophelia extended her left arm.

Aiden opened the bottle: "Prisoner 3005, temporary unsealing of spellcasting permission."

Gray smoke billowed from the bottle, instantly being absorbed into the stump of Ophelia’s wrist, reconstituting her pale left hand.

Ophelia moved her wrist around and looked at Aiden, "You just told me I have a visitor, don’t tell me..."

"Your observation period is over, so you can have visitors," Aiden nodded.

"So, he’s already here?" Ophelia asked.

"Waiting inside for you," Aiden said with a stern face, pointing inside the room, "Get ready, and go say your goodbyes."

"What do you mean? He’s about to leave this place?" Ophelia frowned slightly.

"Yes, to a faraway place..." Aiden’s expression turned solemn, "Go see him for the last time."

"What do you mean?" Ophelia didn’t understand at all.

Aiden didn’t reply, just opened the door to the visiting room, gesturing for Ophelia to enter.

Ophelia walked into the visiting room, confused, to be met with a table on which an urn was placed.

Ophelia stood frozen in place.

Aiden closed the door of the visiting room behind her, and Veronica, who had also entered the room, looked on, uncertain of what expression to wear.

Ophelia stared at the urn, then turned to look at Aiden, and it took her a while to choke out, "What... does this mean?"

Maintaining a stern face, Aiden replied in a deep voice, "During yesterday’s operation, he was exposed by accident, fought with the Blood Moon Cult members, and by the time I arrived, it was too late to save him..."

Ophelia’s face froze.

Afterward, she turned her head back stiffly as if her neck had rusted, gazing blankly at the urn, standing motionless for a long time.

Minutes passed, and she shook her head slightly, a look of disbelief on her face, "He... he’s really dead?"

"I’m very sorry," Aiden spoke slowly.

"But you promised..." whispered Ophelia.

"I’m very sorry," Aiden repeated.

It was all too late. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Thinking this, Ophelia felt a surge of indescribable emotion clogging up her chest, causing her to subconsciously clench her teeth.

Then, at that moment, the door on the other side of the glass curtain wall opened, and Kael Callado, holding a camera, stepped into the room. The moment Ophelia looked up in astonishment, he held up the camera and clicked the shutter.

"What an expression!" Kael exclaimed loudly after capturing the shot.

Ophelia was stunned again, staring through the curtain wall at her brother, full of life on the other side.

It took her a while to come to her senses, then she whirled around, glaring at Aiden.

"So, I’m really sorry," Aiden shrugged, "It was his idea."

Ophelia slowly turned her face back to the front, but this time, her expression was entirely different—it was filled with blatant intent to kill.

"Surprised or what?" Kael waved at Ophelia with enthusiasm, "Honestly, Ophelia, your expression just now was absolutely fantastic. Haven’t seen you in twenty years—can you put down the table, please!?"

"I’m gonna kill you, dammit!!" Ophelia, with a furious face, grabbed the table and lifted it above her head, poised to smash through the glass curtain wall, while the empty urn hit the ground.

Veronica quickly stepped forward and took the table away to prevent any damage to the prison’s property.

"Calm down, calm down... You’re still as impulsive as ever, but honestly, I didn’t expect you to be so heartbroken by my death. Seems like you do care—"

"Die, die, die!!" Ophelia interrupted Kael’s snide laughter with a roar.

Then she turned around sharply and said word by word to Aiden, "I don’t know this man, I’m going back now!!"

"Hey, hey, you don’t get many visitations per week, right? Sit down and have a chat!" Kael tried to stop her, "Hey, hey, don’t go yet!"

"Scram!!" But Ophelia, with a face full of anger, ignored everything and opened the door to leave the visitation room, with the guard Veronica quickly following after her.

"Uh, does this count as..." Kael scratched his temple awkwardly and gave a sheepish smile, "Going overboard?"

"Wasn’t this perfectly predictable?" Aiden shrugged, "And when you get the photo developed, save me a copy. I want to use it to tease her."

"You’re not much better than me, are you?" Kael’s eyes widened a bit.

"This sister of yours can be considered a source of joy in my line of work," Aiden smiled, "Besides, she’s just finished her observation period. She’s only allowed two outside visitations per week, and the next one can’t be for at least another three days."

"Can’t you make an exception?" Kael chuckled dryly.

"Regulations are as such, please understand," Aiden replied in a businesslike manner, "And even after three days, there’s no guarantee she’ll have cooled off. You might not even be able to see her."

"Okay, okay, I’ll just send some letters first," Kael let out a sigh, "The things I brought for her can be left in the room diagonally across from here, right?"

"Yes."

"And the money...?"

"Go to the window opposite the reception, and deposit it into her account," Aiden explained. "Though in this prison, a vampire doesn’t really have much to spend money on."

"Seeing her as impulsive as before, I’m a bit worried. Will she really be okay?" Kael sighed.

"Ninety percent of that impulse has to be credited to you," Aiden chuckled.

"She’s still got to serve 156 years, right? I wonder if I’ll have the chance to see her out," Kael mused.

"That depends on her behavior. We’re not talking about the chance of a reduced sentence, but as long as she doesn’t get into more trouble, that’s already hopeful. For now, let’s just say there’s a glimmer of hope," Aiden seemed thoughtful, then added, "After all, what your kind doesn’t lack is time."

"I entrust my sister to you, then. Please, Warden, guide her on the right path," Kael said with a slight bow.

"I’ll do what I am supposed to do; the rest is up to her," Aiden adjusted his cap.

"Thank you for now," Kael lifted his face, "Ah, right Warden, I brought a letter for you this visit. I left it in your mailbox..."

"Is it... one of those photos again?" That was Aiden’s first reaction.

"No, no," Kael chuckled with a wave of his hand, "That is... from the Ancestor Lord, sent to me to pass on to you."
