Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Look Who’s Pregnant_1
"Have we... been sold out?" Presia’s eyes widened, a bit dumbfounded.
Yes, sold out, Aiden thought to himself.
He had considered the possibility of being backstabbed or betrayed by the witches’ conclave, just not that they would discard their dignity so quickly.
At most, he had envisioned a scenario where, after defeating Father Bales, the witches’ conclave would forcibly claim the remains and steal all the spoils of war.
Yet the conclave began selling them out as soon as the fight erupted. Aiden had thought these people had some sort of limit no matter how low they stooped, especially since their early defeat wouldn’t bode well for the conclave either.
He could imagine the kind of trouble Lamia was encountering, having just faced a battle nun carrying Father Bales’ offspring.
If the thirty-two novice nuns hoarded in the mines had all received Father Bales’ blood and bore the offspring of chimeric beasts, then what Lamia faced was essentially a horde of demonic beasts.
Given her capabilities, it wouldn’t be easy to live up to the grand claims she had made earlier, and it was even more probable that Father Bales would find her during the struggle and take some measures—it was only to be expected.
But to ensure their own forces remained unharmed, these Great Witches shamelessly redirected all the pressure of the main battlefield onto their allies.
In truth, Aiden was also constantly thinking about making the witches’ conclave bear the brunt of the pressure, so that he could slack off and then reap the benefits afterward, but clearly, he still hadn’t reached the "level" of the witches’ conclave.
At this moment, all Aiden wanted to say was although I didn’t really plan on cooperating sincerely, you guys are truly dogs!
After Qiqimora disappeared, Father Bales lowered his body, then charged toward them.
Aiden immediately commanded the chimeric beast corpse he had just resurrected with necromancy to rush at Father Bales with reckless abandon, for as a corpse, it naturally wouldn’t be controlled by the mother body as it was when alive.
The offspring chimeric beasts born of the nuns were pint-sized compared to Father Bales, who stood about four meters tall, with the offspring being only half his height. Aiden only hoped that the corpse could delay Father Bales a bit, allowing them time to escape... at least, they had to put enough distance between themselves and Father Bales first.
Father Bales most likely wouldn’t use divine words to directly influence his enemy, for if the enemy "reproduced asexually," the born offspring would obey the enemy as the mother body, which would end up benefiting the enemy instead.
But if he merged his blood with the enemy and forced the enemy to bear his offspring through the "reproduction" ability, that would be different.
Just as Abigail had said earlier, engaging in close or mid-range combat against such an opponent was not a wise choice, especially when the opponent was a saint.
"Retreat to the back! Run!" Aiden said, then turned and ran.
Daili and Presia hesitated for a moment before following in his footsteps; it was Veronica who was the last to react, catching up with Aiden: "Commander, aren’t we going to fight back?"
"Those witches sold us out; this fight isn’t looking good... Even if we have to fight, we need to increase the distance. Getting caught by that monster is a sure death, not to mention just being splashed with his blood," Aiden replied calmly.
"His blood is poisonous? Actually, I have good resistance to toxins... If you’re willing to fight, Commander, I can try to hold him off from the front!" Veronica volunteered.
She still hoped to take advantage of their numerical superiority to take down the monster, as with her physical condition combined with police combat techniques, it would be no problem to tangle with a large magical beast for a while.
But Aiden didn’t even look at her as he replied, "If you get splashed with his blood, you’ll get pregnant."
"Eh?" Veronica paused for a moment.
"Being splattered with that blood will result in males and females alike conceiving the monster’s progeny, and then the monster will burst forth from inside the body... just like the nun we encountered just now," Aiden further explained.
Veronica’s face instantly turned pale, conceiving a monster’s progeny and then being parasitically burst open by a chimera from within—this was probably the most unacceptable death she could think of at the moment.
"Hey, slow down, will you?" Presia shouted.
After just a dozen paces, she and Daili were completely left behind.
As a werewolf, Veronica’s physical fitness goes without saying, and Aiden, a former Judge, naturally wouldn’t lag behind, especially with the ability to modify his physique. But a witch who buried herself in her workshop all day couldn’t keep up.
At that moment, Father Bales, off in the distance, had forcefully torn the corpse that was clenched onto him and ripped it into two pieces with his bare hands before throwing it forcefully to the ground.
He then chased after the group, taking long strides, and after about a dozen paces, he forcefully kicked the ground with his hooves, jumping on the spot while flapping his wings, rapidly ascending.
He was preparing to pursue from the sky!
Aiden turned his head and saw Father Bales once again tear open the wound on his hand, allowing blood to spurt out and transform into a spray of blood rain from the sky toward them.
In his urgency, Aiden immediately began to recite the "Order" Word of God. To this day, he had gradually adapted to the Word and could use this power freely.
"Return" power—he commanded the "filth" to go back to where it came from!
The blood droplets falling on Charis were suddenly lifted by a miraculous force and began to rise in the opposite direction.
However, Aiden’s Word had a limitation in distance; the blood droplets didn’t make it back to Father Bales’s wound but rather stopped in midair as if frozen in time when they reached a certain height, resulting in an invisible barrier centered around Aiden that blocked all of Father Bales’s blood.
Taking advantage of the Word’s effect, Aiden and the others quickly left the range of the blood rain.
Father Bales’s eyes widened. He had heard the voice that came from Aiden’s mouth and recognized that language of the dominator at the first instant.
He gave up the notion of diving from the sky and made an emergency descent.
Aiden looked back and noticed Father Bales’s movements, sensing something was amiss.
Even if he couldn’t splatter them with blood, Father Bales had the chance to close the distance between them, at least near enough to reach Daili and Presia who were falling behind.
The mere sight of him using a Word without much offensive power and then halting his pursuit seemed overly cautious for a "saint" close to authority. Moreover, there was no need for him to fear being killed.
Father Bales appeared to hesitate. For some reason, on a whim, Aiden suddenly felt the urge to probe his opponent.
"Daili!" he turned and called out.
Understanding his intent, Daili waved her wand and turned to point at Father Bales, chanting a spell at the same time.
The shadow in the distance churned rapidly, and a huge black claw extended from within the shadow, grabbing Father Bales’s hooves just as he landed.
