The further down the list of names in the Rankings I got, the more depressed and confused I felt. Sure, there were some I recognized as they were key figures in the future, but the fact that I hadn’t even made the top 10 with my ten-and-a-half-year shift in the timeline poked at my ego and pride in ways I hadn’t felt since the attack by the aliens eradicated my peaceful life.
Balling my tiny hands into tight fists, I resisted the urge to unleash a flurry of frustrated punches onto my crib, and it wasn’t till 30 minutes had passed before I was finally able to calm myself down enough to examine the names on the Ranking.
’TeraNova, that was the guy who took over the Heroes Association after my little assassination stunt; the fact that he survived the invasion and even gathered the funds to come back in time isn’t too surprising as he was one of the strongest beings Earth had on our side.’
2nd and 3rd place made me chuckle as they made a very clear newbie mistake, indicating they were relatively naive toward the way Systems work.
It was also indicative of the fact they were rather old, probably in their 60s or later, since they still hadn’t adapted to Arkadia. Anyone from my generation who saw those names was sure to haze and make fun of them, for we had seen similar cases in video games time and time again.
Fourth through 6th place were all well-known heroes; however, when associating the names with their physical appearance, I couldn’t fight back the urge to curse because they were only a few years older than me.
’They’re probably in their pre-teen years and already making waves in the timeline, tsk, I feel behind the curve. Had I been born in the 80s, I would have been in a similar situation.’ Airing my grievances, I continued to 7th place and smirked.
’Yeah, that tracks. He was a very famous Sumo Wrestler before Arkadia, having even reached the Yokozuna rank. Still, if memory serves, he is only a couple of years my senior, putting him at 4 or 5 years old.’
I narrowed my eyes slightly as I scrolled down to ranks 8-10; out of everyone listed here, I figured these three would rank higher, maybe even in the top three.
The reason was that they were all from the Myriad Races: Aelstha was of elvish descent, Moira was a vampire, and Vorm was dwarven. All three races had incredibly long lifespans, so in the present, they should all be well over a hundred, somewhere in the ballpark of 600-ish years old.
The fact that they were rounding off the bottom of the ranking board was concerning, but when you consider their being closed off from the world Pre-Arkadia to some extent, it made sense.
Heaving an annoyed sigh, I did the only thing I could think of and composed a command to get answers from Arkadia.
’Arkadia, inform me of my overall rank on the Timeline Ranking Board.’
[User Taylor Lawrence Jörgensen, Alias Nexus, is currently ranked 47 on the Timeline Ranking Board.]
’God damn it,’ with dead eyes, I stared at the message from Arkadia and felt like throwing a tantrum, but that was when I realized something.
’If there are 46 people above me that have all advanced the timeline more than ten years, that means I was wayyy off in my assessment about how far forward the Descent had been pushed.’
’It also means that it’s entirely possible that the 5000 returners could potentially make Arkadia descend sooner than 2028. Things may end up more interesting than I thought. But for now, how about we get those rewards I was promised.’ Rubbing my hands together like a greedy merchant, I spoke the command indicated by Arkadia in its completion of the quest message.
’Arkadia, claim event quest rewards.’ The command prompt triggered multiple messages to occur on my display panel.

’Well…that’s quite unexpected…it looks like I just saved a s**t ton of money, haha.’ With a small flash of light, all the quest reward items appeared in my crib, allowing me to examine them thoroughly.
Although I was aware that Arkadia never short-changed people and gave precisely what it said it would, that didn’t stop my overly paranoid nature from kicking in as I counted each individual potion before storing them away.
Soon enough, the only items on my crib were the Acclimation potion, two exchange tickets, and the Elixir.
First and foremost, my eyes fell on the Acclimation potion. Initially, this item was viewed as a way to aid the body in adapting to particles; however, as time went on, it became increasingly evident that it wasn’t necessarily the only use the potion had.
