"Who am I? Well, I suppose that’s quite a good question to ask, considering I DID just drop one of your friends without much trouble. Then again, he wasn’t the first, and DEFINITELY won’t be the last either." I said while drawing my second Eskrima and connecting it with the first to form a staff as long as my body.

"YOU! YOU’RE WITH THESE HERETICS THEN!"

"Eh, maybe so, maybe not, you never really know, but I will tell you one thing: you DO know my name; maybe you’ve heard of me in passing, as I tend to cause a little mayhem wherever I go, or maybe you’ve seen it at the top of the Leader Boards." Going straight into a monologue to build effect, I was right about to get to the big reveal…

"AH, YOU’RE HIM, YOU’RE NEXUS, HOLY CRAP BROO!" That idiot Sonnasitc blabbed, completely killing the vibe I was going for.

"DUDE WHAT THE FUCK SONNASITC? Seriously, Marek, CONTROL YOUR IDIOT FRIEND," I growled before rushing forward, spinning my staff and clocking a cultist in the head hard enough to make a sickening sound, then moving on to another.

"Idiot…me? Wait a sec, Marek, you know Nexus, and you didn’t tell me; I thought we were bros, man." With a pouty face, Sonnasitc burst into motion, propelling himself forward with a blast of sound and right into one of the remaining two cultists apart from the Leader.

"Don’t give me that shit Sonas; middle of a fight right now, I will explain later," Brenden grumbled while meeting the Leader of the Squad head-on.

Between the three of us, it took all of 30 seconds before the Cultists were all unconscious and tied up in the center of the room.

"Sigh, seriously, not a good idea leaving them like this; even with particle-infused rope, it won’t be much of a challenge for them to break free…what happened to the KOS (Kill on Sight) order we had for Parteavian?" I said while looking away from the cluster of bodies tied together and out of the classroom into the hallway.

"I don’t know how you did things, Nexus, but Heros don’t just kill willy-nilly," Sonnasitc stated while giving one of the Cultists an extra chop to the head to ensure he stayed out cold.

"How naive of you to believe heroes don’t kill; you are probably the only one I’ve ever met who had qualms about it."

"HEROES DON’T KILL! Right, Marek…Marek, back me up here…" Sonnasitc cried before hearing a faint slicing sound and whipping around only to find my brother slitting the throats of each unconscious cultist.

"Nexus is right, Sonas; you weren’t involved with the raids on Partaevian for a reason; we know you wouldn’t be able to put them down. These guys spread like wildfire, brainwashing those down on their luck in search of a better life…and then there’s these." Holding up the arm of a dead cultist, Brenden flashed the bracelet to his friend.

"If the Homunculus Jewelry didn’t exist, we wouldn’t need to put them down, but…" Looking to me to finish the statement and give a real explanation…mainly because he didn’t really understand how the jewelry worked, Brenden gave me pleading eyes.

’He’s not gonna like what I have to say; you really sure that I should be the one explaining this, Brenden.’

’Well, I have no fucking idea how to; your blunt way of talking will get through to Sonas…hes not a bad guy…just wet behind the ears and quite sheltered.’

’Fine, but you owe me,’ the conversation was less than a second long between us, but enough time for me to concede…then I began explaining.

"But so long as it’s been attached to a person, it can only be removed upon the death of the host. Sonnasitc, you need to understand something; these guys will kill, rape, pillage, and do a number of unjustifiable actions, all in pursuit of creating a world they deem to be the True form of our planet."

"No…no, it’s murder, you guys can’t seriously be ok with this, you’re HEROES, HEROES DON’T KILL…’

’Che yeah, if you’re part of Detectic Comics maybe, those Maarval Guys kill all the time.’

Walking up to Sonnasitc, I got directly in his face and caught him by the shoulders before giving him a good shake to shut him up so that he would listen to us.

"Look, I know you were probably raised to be a good Christian kid and all, but the world isn’t black and white. Sonnasitc, Good, and Evil exist, sure, but there are FAR more dangerous things lurking in the shadows of the in-between."

"Tell me something, you grew up on a farm…right?"

"uh..yeah…I did, out in Kansas."

"Ok, now, what do you do when an animal contracts rabies?"

"WE…put it down."

"Ok, and when a horse falls and breaks its leg?"

"We put it down…but."

"There are no buts here, man; this is the reality of life; the Members of Partaevian are too far gone; they are already at the stage of Rabies where they have the fear of water; it’s too late for them; we cant fix, or even help them, the best we can do is as you said…put them down, because if not, the damage they can bring about will see the loss of untold mothers, fathers, even children."

"I…I…understand, we have to protect the innocent. Even…sniffle…if that means getting my hands dirty…we do what must be done…to protect everyone."

I noticed a faint dripping on my boots, and it took every ounce of mental strength in my body not to kick this idiot’s head in for crying on my shoes, but I let it go and patted the lad’s shoulders instead.

However, when I broke away from Sonnasitc, I noticed my little brother staring at me with a strange expression that I couldn’t quite place.

’What? Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked, suddenly feeling uncomfortable.

’Did I just watch you turn one of the few true heroes I know, who is the literal embodiment of Sup*rman’s good guy character… into an Anti-Hero?’

’… If I did, that’s on you, not me,’ Refusing to take credit, I left the classroom in search of more enemies.
