For the next hour, I lay in wait, watching the chaos I had created from a safe distance. Between the loss of the mainframes and medications, it was easy for me to hide the fact that certain patient records were missing, which was precisely what I was banking on.

The idea was to make it seem like a group of thieves had executed a precise heist, targeting the expensive mainframe, but more importantly, the drugs.

The fact that their whole stock of medications and controlled drugs was missing would cause such panic that no one would bother paying attention to the missing physical records.

Standing atop a four-story apartment complex, like a dark avenger watching over his city, I observed the flashing lights of police cars and the annoying wee-woo sirens.

’Fucking things are annoying as shit; I mean, American police cars are bad enough, but at least theirs are shrill sirens, not this annoying sound.’ Digging into my right ear with my pinky to alleviate the ringing, I tried to block out the annoying sound.

’I noticed Harlow leaving his clinic not long after I went onto my heist, but I suppose he will be back soon since they will check the only other doctor’s office nearby.’ Turning and looking in the direction of Harlow’s Clinic, I continued my train of thought.

’Odds are they will head to his clinic or give him a call at home, and when he shows up and lets them into his business for inspection, that’s when they will notice all his meds are gone too.’

’At that point, a full investigation will be conducted, but there will be no leads, and with their computers down and wiped, Harlow’s clinic will appear as yet another victim…the same can be said about SonnyBrook.’

’Without their mainframe, their entire digital infrastructure will be destroyed, and their computers become nothing but paperweights,’

My insight ended up being spot on; roughly three hours after the police first arrived, I watched as a motorcade of cop cars separated from the group at SonnyBrook and headed a block and a half away to Harlow’s Clinic.

Then, like clockwork, Harlow and his wife pulled up in a newish station wagon before getting whisked off into the Clinic, wherein twenty minutes later, the cops came out scratching their heads in confusion.

It wasn’t until much later into the night that Harlow finally left the Clinic, and as if sensing I was nearby, he stopped and looked in my direction atop the apartment complex.

This small action brought a small smirk to my lips, and I watched as he sent his wife to the car and walked to a nearby tree.

Seeing this, I assumed he had asked for a moment to collect his thoughts, so I took advantage of the opportunity and sent him a mental transmission.

Although the distance between us was several blocks, and it was on the edge of my Skill’s radius, it was still within bounds.

’I have erased any trace of your patients from your Clinic as well as SonnyBrook. As for the drugs, well, I have a use for them.’

I could tell Harlow got my transmission because as soon as I began speaking into his mind, the man froze for a second before acting as if nothing had happened.

But then he did something strange; from this distance, with my enhanced eyesight, I could see his lips moving, and technically, I could read them if I weren’t too lazy to try, so understanding he was attempting to communicate with me, I sent him a second transmission.

’Just think your response, and I will hear it. There is no need to whisper or talk at all; merely think about your responses.’ Sure enough, half a second later, I heard his thoughts.

’Lord Rehpix, you have done me a great service this night, and I shall never forget your assistance.’ Harlow stated while turning to face my direction again, something which I found weird at first.

But then I remembered how Soul Contracts work and that he would be able to faintly feel my presence so long as I was within a mile of him.

’Pay it no mind; I am only upholding my end of the bargain. I have set the scene as if you are but another victim of the heist started at SonnyBrook.’ Pausing for a second, I thought about what to say next for a moment before continuing.

I didn’t want to jump the gun or anything and honestly needed a bit of a break since I had been gogogo non-stop. That was why I had originally told Harlow that I’d be back in 24 hours.

No matter which of the two decisions I had given Harlow to think over, he chose, it would end up being a huge mental drain and time-consuming; thus, I wanted tonight and tomorrow to myself, but it looks like that won’t be happening.

"Take the night and think about your decision for tomorrow. I have many things I need to prepare no matter which of the two options you choose, so think wisely because once you do, there is no turning back." Using those as my parting words, I deactivated my Telepathys skill and stood up before turning my back and leaving the rooftop, heading west.

One of the things I did before frying Harlow’s computers was view a few local maps of the area around Hyde; that was how I found there were a lot of open fields and some treelines I could stay at for the night.

Running with my Augmentation active, I kept my speed at about 50%, so I got a decent workout and crossed over a bunch of farmland before ending up in a small wooded area spanning roughly two miles in diameter.

After spending around thirty minutes scoping out the area, I eventually settled on a solid, tall tree and easily scaled it before finding a good spot with plenty of thick branches and foliage where I could sleep for the night.

Most people wouldn’t be able to rough it like this, but having spent so much time in the wilderness and inside Instances, sleeping outdoors was second nature to me, so as I settled in for the night, I pulled out my pillow and a small flannel blanket.

Fully comfortable atop my perch and gazing up at the stars, I slowly closed my eyes and drifted off to the pleasant sound of nature.
