Chapter 618: Chapter 618: Chased Home for the First Time
Inky forcefully flapped its wings and flew to Eastgate Villa.
"Renee!"
"Renee! I have something urgent to tell you!"
It flew in through a gap in the window, and when it saw Michelle Fuller sleeping on the bed, it started looking everywhere for Renee Jennings.
But after searching everywhere, it couldn’t find any sign of Renee Jennings,
so Inky hurried out to the courtyard to find the animals.
"Blueberry, do you know where Renee went? I have something very important to tell her."
Blueberry looked up at Inky. "Oh, it’s you, Inky. Renee went to the wholesale market with Zane."
’The wholesale market!’
"Okay, got it! Thanks, Blueberry! Goodbye!" Without pausing, Inky gave its wings a powerful flap and soared off into the distance.
The wholesale market was bustling with people. Inky flapped its wings, circling in the air as it desperately searched for Renee.
Finally, a familiar figure entered its line of sight.
Inky’s eyes lit up. With a powerful beat of its wings, it swooped straight down, creating a rush of air.
"Renee!"
Renee faintly heard someone calling her name. She glanced around, and the corners of her mouth slowly lifted into a smile. "Inky, you’re here."
Inky folded its wings and landed on her shoulder, explaining, "I just went to the house, but I couldn’t find you. Blueberry told me you were here."
At these words, Renee’s expression immediately grew serious. "Did something happen at Willow’s house?"
"Yes!" Inky nodded its little head emphatically and quickly explained what had just happened at Willow’s house.
Renee’s brow furrowed, her voice laced with displeasure. "Her stepfather has gone too far."
Inky said, "That horrible man. My siblings and I taught him a lesson."
Renee raised an eyebrow. "You all did great, but you must make sure you’re safe before doing things like that."
"Don’t worry, don’t worry! I know what I’m doing!" Inky said. "Renee, we have to hurry and help Willow. I’m scared she’ll actually try to scoop out all that disgusting waste with her bare hands."
"Okay." Renee nodded. She started walking and pulled out her phone. "I need to make two calls first."
She first dialed Glenn Zane, telling her not to buy too many groceries and to just grab a taxi home in a little while.
Her second call was to Henry Stark. "I’m on my way to Willow’s house. Inky said she’s in trouble... I’m going to find a plumber in the area."
Renee had already told everyone about the siblings, Willow and Glenn.
Henry Stark said from the other end, "Share your location. I’m on my way."
"Okay." Renee hung up, shared her live location with Henry Stark, and followed Inky’s lead toward Willow’s house.
After about ten minutes of driving, Inky zipped into the car. "Renee, the roads ahead are too narrow for the car."
"Okay, I see." Renee replied, pulling the car over to the side of the road.
She got out of the car, phone in hand, and saw that Henry Stark was only eight hundred meters away.
Renee went into a convenience store, bought some yogurt and milk, and asked the owner as she was paying, "Hi, I was wondering, is there anyone around here who does pipe clearing?"
"Need a toilet unblocked?" the owner asked.
Renee nodded. "Yes."
The owner rummaged through a drawer, found a business card, and handed it to her. "Try calling this number."
"Thank you." Renee typed the number from the card into her phone. Bag in hand, she walked out and saw Henry Stark getting out of his car. "Henry."
As she called out his name, the call connected.
"Hello, I was wondering if you could come help unclog a toilet right now?"
"It’ll be an extra twenty to come immediately."
"That’s fine. I’ll text you the address."
"You got it."
Renee hung up and looked at Henry Stark. "I’ve got a plumber on the way. Let’s go."
"Okay." Henry nodded.
Inky continued to lead the way for them.
Three minutes later, Renee and Henry stood before Willow’s home. The walls were mottled with patches of mold, and the air was thick with a damp, musty odor. Renee’s slender brows gradually furrowed.
’These living conditions are just awful.’
The faint sounds of suppressed sobbing and a little boy’s panicked, concerned voice drifted from inside the house.
"Sis, why are you crying? Did Dad hit you again?"
Renee let out a quiet sigh and glanced at Henry before raising her hand to knock on the door. "Anyone home?"
Lost in her misery, Willow froze at the sound of knocking. She instantly stopped crying, her whole body tensing with fear.
Glenn shouted toward the door, "Who’s there?"
Renee called back, "I heard your toilet was clogged, so I came to help."
Willow’s eyes widened in astonishment.
’How could anyone possibly know about this?’
"Sis, should I open the door?" Glenn asked.
Willow pressed her lips together and forced out a single word: "Open."
’She really didn’t know what else to do. She didn’t want to use her hands, but if James Yelric came home tonight and found the toilet still clogged, he would definitely beat her.’
’She didn’t want to get beaten.’
With his sister’s permission, Glenn went to open the door. When he saw Renee standing there, panic flooded his small, gaunt face.
"Sis, this is bad! It’s the person who bought the pomegranates!"
At his words, Renee raised an eyebrow, a flicker of surprise in her eyes.
’The boy is quick on his feet.’
Glenn tried to shut the door again, but it was too late.
Willow ran out from the direction of the bathroom, pulling her brother behind her and staring warily at Renee and Henry. "What do you want?"
’She’d seen people come to them at the market to complain about bad fruit, but this was the first time anyone had tracked them all the way home.’
"You’re Willow, right? Don’t be afraid." Renee softened her voice, a gentle smile on her face. "I’m not here for a refund on the pomegranates."
Willow’s brow furrowed as she asked uneasily, "Then what are you doing here?"
Renee said, "I heard your toilet was clogged, so I called a plumber to help."
A flicker of confusion crossed Willow’s eyes. "You... How did you know?"
"Because I have Magic," Renee said with a smile.
"Really?" Glenn’s face lit up with excitement. He peeked out from behind his sister and asked eagerly, "Then can you use your Magic to make some meat for me to eat?"
Renee replied, "Magic can’t make meat, but I can buy you some."
"You’re lying," Willow said, pulling her brother behind her again. "Magic isn’t real!"
Renee smiled, raising an eyebrow. "But the part about getting your toilet fixed is real."
She held up her phone as it rang and answered. "Yes, this is the place. Come right on up."
Soon, a middle-aged man in dark blue overalls, carrying a tool bag, arrived at the door.
Renee made the introduction. "This is the plumber who’s come to help. Willow, can you show him to the bathroom?"
Willow hesitated for a moment, eyeing the man and his tool bag. Seeing his equipment, she realized he really did seem to be a plumber.
Her lips moved, and she said softly, "Then... follow me."
"You got it." The plumber picked up his tools and followed her inside.
Glenn stared eagerly at Renee, his mind filled with visions of fragrant chicken drumsticks and savory braised pork.
