Chapter 275: Separated by "the Him Who Died

Evangeline stood before the spaceship, quietly watching the Swarm warriors pouring out from the nest.

Every one of them looked ready for a formidable foe, many having already reverted to their beast forms. The air buzzed with the sound of the Blade-Wing Insectoids’ wings, a sky-blotting horde that had nearly surrounded the entire spaceship.

Loras, Thorne, and Julian’s bodies tensed unconsciously as they stared coldly at the insectoid tide.

Evangeline’s gaze immediately found the tall, slender figure at the forefront of the swarm. Black Beast Skin Clothes clung to his body, accentuating his impressive musculature. His ink-black hair trailed along the ground, his expression was glacial, and his seven-colored eyes were filled with a brutal thirst for slaughter.

Seeing the massive spaceship, the swarm held its breath, poised and ready for battle.

They had never seen such a "Ferocious Beast" before. In the face of such an existence, The Swarm seemed exceptionally small.

Just as the Swarm warriors were awaiting The Everwake’s command, he suddenly paused. The fingers of the hand hanging at his side curled slightly, his seven-colored eyes fixed on the slender figure at the front of the spaceship.

The crimson gauze of her clothes fluttered in the wind, like rosy clouds at sunset, looking as if she might drift away with the breeze at any moment.

The Everwake didn’t look away. ’Am I hallucinating?’ he thought, stunned. ’I actually think I’m seeing Evangeline.’

Scenes from what happened with the Iridian Clan replayed endlessly in his mind. He didn’t understand. He was supposed to hate this female. Why, then? Why did a single night of entanglement somehow diminish the memory of the original slaughter?

’I’m no longer thinking about getting revenge on her, about making her pay for all the humiliation and pain I suffered in the Oasis Tribe.’

’But that night... that trembling, unfamiliar warmth and softness... it just pulls me in deeper and deeper.’

The Everwake’s fingers suddenly tightened, his knuckles cracking. He stared at Evangeline, a malevolent energy swirling in his magnificent, seven-colored compound eyes.

Evangeline looked at The Everwake and curled her lips into a smirk. "I heard today is the day you’re taking another female as your partner. Although you never invited me, your Contracted female, we were partners after all. It just wouldn’t be right to ignore it."

Her toes tapped lightly on the ship’s hull, and she floated down to land in front of The Everwake.

Her long hair danced as the red gauze drifted across The Everwake’s firm waist and abdomen, carrying a familiar yet foreign, cloyingly sweet scent.

The Everwake’s seven-colored compound eyes seemed to freeze over. His voice, thin and frigid, was colder than the grave. "Why have you come to the Triangle Abyss?"

’Listen to him. So cold.’

Evangeline clicked her tongue. ’He really is a cold, heartless man.’

Her eyes sparkled and she gave a radiant smile. Her slender fingertips gently caressed The Everwake’s chest. She moved closer and, in a soft voice only the two of them could hear, said, "That day, you abandoned me and left. And now you’re going behind my back to form a Contract with another female. The Everwake, what do you take me for? How dare you ask me why I’ve come to the Triangle Abyss? Don’t you find that laughable?"

The Everwake’s body tensed, his knuckles whitening.

’I never expected her to show up and so brazenly call me to account.’

’The strange thing was, what rose within him wasn’t anger or scorn, but an indescribable, aching bitterness.’

’Does she really see me as her Beast Husband?’

’He’d always believed that to her, he was just a slave. Someone of lowly status, whose only appeal was his face and body. Leaving on his own after one night of passion was the last shred of dignity he could cling to.’

’Between him and Evangeline lay the "him" who had once "died." They could never start over.’

The surrounding Swarm warriors stared, stunned, at the ambiguously intimate posture of the two.

They had all heard that their King had formed a Contract with a female from outside the Triangle Abyss. During the last rainy season, he had even led a group of warriors to Blackwater Swamp, supposedly to find this very female.

The Swarm warriors glanced frequently at Evangeline, understanding and a faint fascination dawning in their eyes.

’No wonder their King is unwilling to become mates with Queen Hecate of the Corrosive Swarm,’ they thought. ’So this is his female... she’s beautiful.’ Even from a distance, they could smell a pleasant fragrance wafting from her, a scent The Swarm found very appealing.

’But if the King doesn’t become mates with Queen Hecate, how will our two great Swarms fight The Parasite Swarm together?’

Thinking of this, the Blade-Wing Insectoid warriors looked at each other, a hint of worry in their eyes.

In their eyes, no female, however beautiful, was more important than the future of The Swarm. Mating with Queen Hecate was for the sake of their entire race. They believed it was the only way The Swarm could finally break free from the Triangle Abyss!

The Swarm was meant to propagate and occupy vast territories, not remain trapped in the Triangle Abyss forever.

「On the spaceship.」

Thorne, holding Genesis, shot a cold glance at The Everwake and snorted, "Putting on an act."

Loras, however, was quiet, taking only a single glance before looking away.

Julian forced himself to look away from Evangeline and The Everwake’s intimate posture. Even though he knew they were partners, he still felt a little down and envious. He looked at Loras and asked in a low voice, "My Brother, is he okay?"

Loras chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "When Eva takes action, is there anything she can’t do?"

Julian froze, a hint of self-deprecation flickering in his gilt-gold pupils. ’That’s right,’ he thought. ’Is there anything she can’t do?’

’Evangeline is the most powerful female on the Beastman Continent. She doesn’t need a male for protection, let alone to hunt for her. She can get by just fine on her own. Males... they seem to be nothing more than tools for her pleasure.’

Genesis lay on Thorne’s shoulder, staring eagerly at The Everwake not far from the ship.

His seven-colored eyes shimmered in the sunlight as he whispered, "Father Thorne, is that..."

Thorne leaned against the hull and sneered, "That’s right. That’s the father who abandoned you and your mother."

With that, he stepped back to give Genesis a good look, then rolled his eyes. ’They really do look alike.’

Meanwhile, listening to Evangeline’s deceptively light accusation, The Everwake curled his lip into a cold sneer. He shoved her away, his brutal gaze landing on her forehead. The blooming Beast Spirit Flower there was so dazzlingly resplendent it seemed like a cold, cruel mockery.

He raised his hand, his long fingers landing on Evangeline’s forehead, and rubbed it harshly. "What right do you have to question me?"

’It’s been so long since what happened in the Iridian Clan’s territory. This can’t be my child.’

’Right. Him and Evangeline, having a child together? What a joke.’

Evangeline raised her eyes to meet his mocking, indifferent gaze, the corners of her lips lifting slightly.

She was about to speak when a faint glint flashed in her eyes. She remained perfectly still, her gaze locked on The Everwake. In that same instant, his twelve magnificent Feather Wings unfurled from his back, wrapping around her completely to block a splash of incoming venom.

A shimmering light glowed on the Feather Wings, completely blocking all the venom without sustaining the slightest damage.

Only when The Everwake snapped back to reality did he realize he had instinctively protected the female before him.

His brow furrowed, his handsome face filled with humiliation and rage.

From behind him, Hecate’s voice, laced with fury, rang out: "The Everwake! Is this what the Blade-Wing Insectoids stand for? Getting cozy with another female on the day we are to become mates? You have some nerve disrespecting me like this!"

Her beautiful, wild face was consumed with jealousy, as if she wanted nothing more than to tear apart the female protected in The Everwake’s embrace.
