Chapter 240: Back In Business, Sorta

[A/N: And I couldn’t stay awake for one hour T.T. Oh well, here’s the two Chapters lol.]

Adrian looked right back at the teenager.

’Maybe he can actually deal with my issue a little bit better now.’ Adrian thought to himself. ’Let’s see. Bring him to me.’

Aria turned back to Hugo and gave him a firm nod.

So Hugo walked over to the side of Adrian’s bed.

But he didn’t hesitate at all. He just reached right out and placed his large palm directly onto Adrian’s bruised forehead.

He triggered his healing magic immediately. But this time, Hugo was actually being a little more smart about it.

Because instead of trying to aggressively heal the entirety of Adrian’s catastrophic internal damage all at once or his whole head, Hugo focused entirely on very small areas instead.

He focused the bright golden light strictly on the jaw area. He targeted the upper jawbone and the lower mandible, pushing the mana into the shattered cartilage in the nose and the torn muscles in the neck.

Because basically, he only targeted the specific anatomical parts that Adrian desperately needed just to speak and breathe without feeling agonizing pain.

"Okay." Hugo muttered quietly as his eyes narrowed in heavy concentration. "I will start now."

The golden light suddenly flared brightly and completely wrapped around Adrian’s bruised jaw and neck.

Hugo immediately clenched his own jaw. His free hand curled into a tight, bone white fist right at his side.

Because the pain feedback hit him incredibly hard. But luckily, he didn’t squeeze his healing hand.

The exact moment the terrible pain of shattered bone flooded his brain, Hugo consciously lifted his palm straight up an inch. He just hovered his glowing hand right over Adrian’s face.

Because he really did not want to accidentally crush the man’s skull during a violent muscle spasm.

And it actually worked.

Because compared to his first catastrophic attempt a week ago, Hugo actually stayed awake. He didn’t faint this time, and his skin didn’t spontaneously tear open and bleed all over the wooden floor.

But his massive body still shook violently.

It really wasn’t as bad as before. But the massive effort of completely clenching his muscles to actively fight the horrible pain still made him tremble uncontrollably.

He forcefully held the magical connection for almost thirty straight minutes.

And then the golden light finally died.

Hugo completely collapsed backward. He hit the wooden floorboards with a heavy thud. But this time, he didn’t fall because he lost consciousness. He just fell because he was completely exhausted.

He just laid there on the floor for a few seconds before he groaned loudly. He forced himself to sit right back up. So he crossed his legs on the floor and closed his eyes.

Then he immediately started meditating to actively rebuild his completely drained mana pool.

And right on the bed, Adrian just laid there panting heavily.

He had just experienced a massive, localized wave of intense pain around his jaw and neck. But it was actually entirely manageable. Because the targeted rate of healing wasn’t nearly as aggressive or incredibly fast as the full body attempt. So he didn’t have to suffer the maximum threshold of terrible pain every single second.

It just felt like a really harsh and burning sensation deep inside his bones.

But it really wasn’t unbearable.

So once the burning pain finally faded away into a dull ache, Adrian just closed his tired eyes. And he fell straight into a deep sleep.

And then the cycle truly began.

Because a few hours later, Hugo woke up, stood up, and just did it all over again.

It took Hugo almost an entire month of targeted, piece-by-piece daily sessions to heal Adrian’s broken physical body completely.

But he actually pulled it off by the end.

Adrian casually swung his legs right over the edge of the mattress. His bare feet touched the cold floor. And he finally stood up on his own two feet.

And a slight smile slowly pulled right at the corners of his mouth. It looked almost exactly like a cocky smirk.

He turned to look at Hugo standing nearby. But Adrian didn’t say a single word.

He just walked right over and wrapped his arms around the massive teenager. He pulled the boy into a tight hug and patted the back of his head firmly.

"I am going to reward you for this later." Adrian promised him.

His voice was completely clear and strong.

"And you are going to absolutely love it."

Adrian finally stepped back from the hug.

"Go get some actual rest in a real bed." Adrian ordered the exhausted teenager.

Then he turned his head to look right at Caelum sitting at the wooden desk. And Adrian just chuckled out loud as he casually stretched his almost perfectly healed body.

"If this healing was done much earlier," Adrian joked while pointing at the runic array sitting on the desk. "You wouldn’t have had to work this hard to carve that thing for me by yourself."

Caelum just chuckled quietly in response.

He looked right down at the stacked parallel board that he had just spent weeks perfecting.

"Well." Caelum sighed heavily as he rubbed his tired eyes. "At least it is finally done. And you do not have to do any of the manual labor."

Adrian gave a slow nod of agreement.

He turned his head and looked right at Aria. She was just standing quietly by the nightstand.

"Can you put this under my mattress for me?" Adrian asked her.

Aria nodded eagerly. And she immediately used her telekinesis to lift the heavy mattress straight up into the air. Then she grabbed the newly carved parallel runic board right off the desk. She casually tossed it squarely onto the empty wooden bed frame.

And she gently lowered the mattress back down to sandwich the board in place.

Adrian climbed right back onto the bed and laid down flat on his back.

He closed his eyes and immediately triggered his active mana breathing method.

The wooden runic board instantly flared to life right beneath him. The healing arrays were still completely active and they constantly cycled the ambient mana straight through his system.
