Chapter 315: That’s Enough [1]
The sitting area around me had now been entirely filled by the students from all years as they chatted amongst themselves.
Everything should have been normal, yet it clearly wasn’t as the students stared in my direction, or to say they stared at the two students before me, who were hugging each other like the world had come to an end.
Still, none of the students from among the audience were able to hear a single word uttered by the werewolves as I had covered the area around us with my spell—
Mana Silence.
The spell created an environment similar to the void, as none of the noise from the outside could enter the barrier that had been formed after executing the spell.
The same was true for the sound from within, as it couldn’t exit from the barrier, preventing those on the outside from being able to hear a single word uttered within the barrier’s radius.
It wasn’t like I was trying to give the werewolf siblings any sort of privacy—
No.
I had no interest in wasting my mana for such use.
It was the topic of their discussion that had to be kept secret from the rest, as no one could know that these siblings were related to and worked for some cult.
That would spoil the benefits that I could derive from the werewolf twins.
"I had always been a fool, hadn’t I? Just a muscle head with no brains."
Jacob’s voice had now completely broken down, as he uttered the words with clenched teeth.
Was he trying to control the frustration or was it a subconscious action on his part to relieve the weight that might have been burdening his heart?
"Huh? No... I-I am s-sorry."
Samara couldn’t muster any other words than an apology that didn’t seem to have its effect as Jacob’s expression still remained the same as before.
The silence had now begun to stretch as seconds soon turned into a minute, but Samara’s sobs didn’t seem to end any time soon.
"I had never wanted to join those lunatics."
Though Jacob uttered the statement in a low voice, each of his words felt far too heavy to hear... at least to Samara, who had once again frozen at her place, as her sobs seemed to have died in her throat.
"I thought I was protecting you."
Jacob continued without knowing how his sister was reacting to his words.
Or maybe he did know about it, and just wasn’t in the state of mind to care for it.
Strange.
The Jacob from the game had been extremely protective of his sister... going as far as to become the epitome of evil only because something had happened to his sister.
The guy had then used the cults to sow the flames of chaos in every corner of the world.
Though he had killed several innocents in the process, his mind kept on justifying it as some sort of revenge on behalf of his sister.
Never did he think that the people he had killed could have been the loved ones of someone else.
Blinded by anger and the thirst for revenge, the guy had experienced a pretty brutal death at the end.
But at the moment, looking at Jacob... I couldn’t believe that this was the same guy who had walked so far on the path of crimes... just for his sister.
People truly were creatures of contradictions.
Right now, Jacob felt like someone who hated his sister... or maybe I was overanalysing the guy.
"Did you know what those lunatics made me do in order to test my resolve to join their cult?"
At Jacob’s question, Samara broke into more tears, as she could feel the growing resentment in her brother’s heart through his words.
"Those bastards... t-they had asked me to eat— cough... cough"
"Huh? BROTHER?! Are you okay?!"
Hm?
Midway through his sentence, Jacob began to cough, making Samara forget her sobs, as the girl began to check her brother’s body for any signs of abnormalities.
Did she think of herself as some healer?
"I am fine."
Pressing his hand on Samara’s, Jacob stabilised himself before looking into her eyes.
"Just the thought of recalling those vile things disgusts me to my core. Samara... those people had asked me to eat the intestines of the d-dead, and told me— only after doing that would I be able to surpass the limitations of being a mortal, and turn into a true servant of the god."
Jacob covered his face with both of his hands, as he let out a somewhat loud cry of agony.
The students standing in our vicinity had now increased, as the barrier of Mana Silence was transparent in nature, which meant that everyone could see the two werewolves breaking into tears and doing all sorts of dramatic things.
Adding to that was the fact that I was present at the scene.
Just my mere presence was enough to amplify the curiosity in the minds of every student out there.
The spell was still doing its work, as none of the people outside its barrier were able to hear the conversation that was happening within.
But the barrier only prevented the conversation from being heard, and in no way could it stop the students from observing the werewolves and their actions.
I could have blocked everyone’s view and prevented them from seeing the werewolves crying before me, but by the lens of practicality there was no need to hide anything from the students.
After all, the scene before them could be interpreted in an infinite number of ways, and no one would be able to trace the real reason behind the drama.
Not that anyone had such extra time to waste on some random werewolves.
Still my presence was what had amplified the curiosity of the students, and it could even attract the attention of certain people, making things a little troublesome for me.
"I had never known it would be like this. Father... he had told me that—"
"It doesn’t matter now, does it?"
