Chapter 296: Mastermind [2]

"One of the forces?"

Alicia couldn’t help but emphasize her attention on the last words uttered by Diana.

"Yes... that’s the main thing that has made my father and every other person in power carefully handle the situation without letting the public learn much about it."

"But shouldn’t people know what’s happening around them? I think it’s unfair to keep them in the dark—"

"Things could take a turn for the worst if the people learn about all the intricacies regarding the attack. Though I think the details would still be made available to the public, just not now. The atmosphere around the world is still volatile due to all the people that had either been injured or perished due to the attack."

Diana paused before leaning back in her chair.

"So what are the intricacies that you are talking about? And if cults were only one of the forces, then who are the rest—"

Alicia stopped midway as she widened her eyes in realization.

"You don’t have to answer if it’s confidential."

Alicia, being a noble herself, knew that certain things were best left unsaid—

"Though it’s confidential... that’s the case for the public, not for you— Miss Frost."

Diana chuckled while giving a small playful punch to Alicia’s shoulder.

"And why would I even talk about everything if it was meant to be confidential from you?"

’Diana’ had now learned to interact, just like how the original owner of the body behaved and talked with everyone else.

At first it was a little challenging for ’her’, as the humans around her were all kids who had barely turned eighteen years of age.

Yet, as adaptable as she had always been, Diana was quick to adjust to her new surroundings.

And now that a sufficient amount of time had passed, Diana had been able to analyse all the memories of her body, and thereby knew how the humans around her thought and felt about her.

Alicia Frost... the girl before her was quite the emotional one.

Anything related to her family was enough to trigger the girl, resulting in her crying like a kid—

Well, she was indeed a kid.

From her body’s memories, Diana knew what Alicia had always wanted, so she was quick to make the girl reconcile with her brother... the same kid who Diana found to be quite the interesting one.

Still, Alicia’s pride was being a major hurdle in making her accept what she truly felt about her brother.

Though that wasn’t much of an issue, as Diana was able to convince Alicia by slightly amplifying the real emotions in her heart and making them overwhelm the little girl’s worthless pride.

Looking back, the Frosts had always been a prideful bunch.

Many times their pride had been the very reason behind the greatest men in their household perishing in battles that could have been won otherwise.

Still, that kid, Kael... Diana had an instinctive feeling that he was very different from the rest of his family.

And the most interesting part was about the memories of Kael that her body had.

Diana had replayed those memories several times in her mind, finding them amusing every time she witnessed them.

Kael had been like a gentle soul in his childhood, but a dramatic change occurred in him when he had turned ten years of age.

Analysing all the memories, it felt like the main reason behind Kael’s sudden change was due to him being pestered by his father for training to become a worthy heir for the house, but Diana didn’t believe in the analysis, because it was based on information that her body had obtained through the biased eyes of a ten-year-old.

For Diana, the reason behind Kael’s sudden change in behaviour, along with his unnecessary and childish outbursts, felt a lot deeper than what was visible on the surface.

Though Diana couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason, and that was what made the kid an interesting piece for her.

Diana just had an instinctive feeling that being near the kid would make her life far more dramatic than its usual boring everyday stuff.

It was just that she had to be a little careful, as the Kael in the present felt a lot more mysterious with every new piece of information about him being known to her.

Still, it wasn’t like someone on her level would be scared by the theatrics of a mere Silver 3.

Diana was just being cautious, as she had no interest in compromising her plans only because she had ended up being curious about the Frost.

Learning about Kael and making her life fun along the way was just a bonus for her, not her primary objective nor her desire.

Not that a being like her would be overwhelmed by mere curiosity.

Still, Kael was interesting enough to make her think about him... and for that, the human indeed deserved some level of appreciation.

"Considering all the information that is known to the authorities about the attack, as well as the things that I had heard from father... most of the powerhouses are taking into consideration the possibility of there being a mastermind behind all the attacks."

Alicia just stared at Diana without saying a word.

"I am not making things up."

Seeing Alicia’s blank expression, Diana felt the need to clarify, but—

"It’s not that I don’t believe in you, it’s just that... uh—"

"Just say it."

Diana felt a little upset over being looked down upon by a kid.

Remembering her words, there was nothing in them that should have warranted such a reaction from Alicia, as the latter looked at Diana as if looking at a kid who was trying to show off by portraying herself as a cool person.

The thought briefly passed through Diana’s mind, but it was enough to get on her nerves.

It was like a prey teaching the predator to hunt.

As if there could be anything more humiliating than that.

Still, in the end Diana’s reaction wasn’t entirely her own.
