Chapter 311: Visiting Luntara After 20 Years
"By the way Leon, did you not get the invitation for tonight? If you want you can come with me. I think we might meet with some great figures from Evana."
Leon, walking beside Alice, answered without looking at her.
"No need. I am invited as well."
"Huh? But Myra said you did not get an invitation. Then how?"
"I have my ways."
He waved her question off with a small hand gesture.
"Anyways, Alice. Why are you even coming? You are not the type to attend any banquet."
Leon asked, as he crossed the academy building and stepped out with her under the afternoon sun.
"Are you not curious about their technologies? From all the stories we heard, I am actually interested. To see exactly how far behind we are compared to them."
’Oh, you would be surprised.’
Leon added in his mind.
Their techs were far beyond what this era could ever catch up to. It would take them at least five generations of research to achieve what Evana had now.
Alice brought her face a bit close to Leon’s ear and whispered.
"By the way, does Evana’s sudden appearance have something to do with you and Ethan?"
Ethan had actually asked Alice to tag along with them to their trip to Evana before he even asked Cyan, and to which Alice had rejected the offer at that time.
Surely after seeing them go out and return so soon.
Alice had a subtle feeling that it was actually them who had done something.
"Because you rejected our offer, Alice. That’s why I will not speak of what had happened, nor what we did over there."
"Huh? Oh, come on!"
Alice clicked her tongue in frustration.
But knowing Leon, she was certain that he would really not tell her anything no matter how much she pestered him.
She was still certain that they had a hand behind Evana’s return.
For the first, the timing was too suspicious. Leon leaves with Cyan and Ethan, and Evana appears out of nowhere at the same time.
And second, Leon being the brother of a Tower Head.
It might have been the case that Veronica had also helped him in some regards during this trip.
Alice had her own presumptions.
But there was no way of clearing those presumptions without Leon telling her the truth himself.
"Haaah... fine. Don’t tell then. Hmph."
She crossed her arms in mild irritation as she continued walking beside him.
Leon smiled slightly at her sulking expression.
After a while, both of them stopped in front of Luntara’s door.
Click.
Alice opened the door.
And as she did, they heard several voices talking coming from inside the club.
"Oh my? Is it really? I thought he would lack init... I am actually surprised he lasted for so long."
It was Esther who was speaking.
She had come directly to Luntara after class ended.
And talking to her was yet another woman.
"Mhm. I was surprised as well. You know how we used to bunk the club together, right? Apparently it was him who snitched on us all along."
"Tch. I always knew it. The next time I see him, I am beating his sorry ass alive."
"Hahaha. You say the funniest thing with a straight face, Esther."
It was Ayaka’s voice.
"But seriously Esther. Don’t you think it is time for you to get married already and have kids?"
"What? No way I am doing that this early. An-anyways. Speaking of kids... let us have some discussion regarding your child, you know Tia have been getting tensed a lot, you should give her some time."
"Haaah... I wish I could...."’
Leon and Alice exchanged glances at the doorway.
Alice quietly pointed toward the stairs, indicating to directly go up without disturbing them.
Leon nodded silently.
Both of them quietly walked up the stairs to the first floor.
They had been extra careful with their steps because right now, classes were still ongoing. And they both were here, sneaking around inside their own club.
Even though they were both research scholars given some luxury with attendance, Esther still did not like them bunking classes without reason.
As they reached the first floor, Leon saw Alice grinning a lot from the corner of his eye.
"This is fun, don’t you think?"
Alice whispered as she reached for the door of their personal room.
"Shut up and open the door already."
Leon replied under his breath.
Click—
Alice opened the door and stepped inside.
Then Leon entered last, closing the door behind him carefully.
"...."
It was as if Leon counted the loop of Evana, it had been almost twenty or so years since he had last stepped foot into this place.
But even after all that time, this club room still had the same warmth it once had.
The first thing his eyes fell on was his own desk.
Several rolled papers were clustered up like a small mountain reaching almost to the ceiling.
His eyes twitched.
"The hell is this?"
He glanced sharply at Alice.
Alice averted her eyes hurriedly and changed the topic without missing a beat.
"Here Leon, look at this instead."
She quickly moved past his desk and pulled something out from beneath her own workbench.
A wide, long, wooden case that was quite thick and sturdy.
Its edges were smoothed and its surface was polished.
From on glance Leon can tell that it was custom made for carrying something important.
Leon’s eyes then fell on top of the wooden box.
A warning line written in bold, round handwriting.
[Property of Alice. If you dare touch this, I will split your ass apart.]
"...."
Leon stared at the warning line for a full second.
"...Really, Alice?"
"What?"
Alice shrugged casually as she began undoing the wooden case’s clasps.
"I have to protect my babies from thieves. You know how research scholars are around here."
’Yeah, reading this the thieves will run away laughing.’
Leon let out a small, tired sigh.
"Help me pick it up. This one is quite heavy."
Alice asked him.
To which Leon held the other end of the wooden box, and together with her he placed it on top of Clara’s empty table.
Her table was the only one that was well maintained in such an elegant and clean manner among all of them.
"Whew~"
Alice let out a small breath after setting the case down properly.
Then she smirked at Leon.
"Ready to get blown away?"
