Chapter 129: The Spire’s Hidden Fortune
The warm golden water of divinity swayed wave by wave over the vast expanse. The circular marble platform was the only place that remained unaffected by the constant, glowing waves, as it stood at the very center of the vast ocean of divinity.
Lyris sat on the very edge of the smooth platform. Her hand flowed freely along the warm surface of the divinity as the liquid absorbed into her skin.
She felt a warm, soothing energy flowing inside her body. A faint golden hue started to light up right below the nape of her neck, where her hidden divine mark existed.
The divine mark was shaped like a vertical spear, with a small star resting at its center. Curved wings spread out from both sides elegantly. A faint circular ring surrounded the core, with a few tiny lines and dots hanging from it like delicate threads.
As the divine mark shined with a bright golden light, the divinity around her started to respond to her presence.
The warm and pure divinity of the ocean was attracted toward her. It consciously formed into glowing threads of golden hue, traveling through her hand, passing through her body, and continuously absorbing into her mark.
She sat perfectly still, absorbing the divinity while closing her eyes. Her body started to illuminate with golden light. Her skin brightened as any hint of blemish and impurities vanished; her skin softened and smoothed until her form turned ethereal and beautiful.
Her body and soul were being purified by the absorbing divinity. Her eyelashes fluttered as she finally stood up and opened her eyes. Her once-violet eyes had turned pure golden, matching the divinity.
The entire golden expanse started to convert into brilliant threads of divinity. The threads flew through the empty space and absorbed directly into her divine mark. Her whole body radiated with divine energy.
Invisible golden wings started to stretch from her back, giving her an ethereal, angelic look. A massive pillar of golden light illuminated from her figure, piercing through the white sky endlessly.
As hours passed, the whole ocean of divinity cleared up. All of the golden threads synchronized, shaping into a giant ethereal butterfly. It flapped its majestic wings, radiating a large sea of divinity as it flew over her and embraced her body. Its form dissolved into golden sparkles and absorbed entirely into her body.
[Ding! You have successfully absorbed the vast Ocean of Divinity!]
[Ding! You are one step closer to awakening your Power!]
[Ding! Your connection with the ’Spirit Realm’ has deepened!]
[Ding! Your body and soul have become purer!]
[Ding! You have Awakened the ’Ethereal Body’!]
Lyris stood in the now-empty ocean basin, radiating a aura of divinity. Her golden eyes looked up at the sky as the pillar of golden light started to thin and vanish. Her golden eyes slowly regained their original violet color. She closed her eyes as the heavy burden of absorbing that much divinity finally fell on her shoulders. The invisible golden wings dissolved into golden light and vanished into the air.
She fell down onto the marble platform, unconscious. The divine mark also returned to its original, dormant state as the divine energy subsided.
The once-golden ocean now lay entirely empty. The white sky remained unchanged by anything happening below it.
...
At the same time, in an altered dimension of the spire.
A boy stood looking straight ahead with a shocked face. He couldn’t believe what was sitting right in front of him.
His face was illuminated by a blinding golden light as he stared ahead.
Just before him, millions to billions of shiny gold coins were scattered around. They were stacked together like massive mountains, spilling across the floor of the entire hall.
Not only were there gold coins, but several precious gems, glittering diamonds, and various ancient treasures were placed carelessly among the mountains of wealth.
Alen stepped forward, walking into the large, cavernous hall. He looked around cautiously. No one else was present anywhere near him. He couldn’t sense any humans, monsters, or any other living beings around him.
The hall was eerily silent. It was the kind of heavy silence that baffled him to his very core.
Alen walked around the treasure room silently, his every step echoing sharply through the hall.
The gold coins were constantly attracting his gaze, practically telling him to embrace the wealth.
"What the f*ck? How the hell is it possible that such a massive amount of treasure is present in the middle of the Spire? Something is wrong here, definitely wrong..."
He crossed his arms and looked at the gold while tapping his foot on the floor.
He suddenly noticed a small treasure box lying between a stack of gold coins below him.
"What is that? Let’s check it out..."
Alen stepped forward and walked toward the towering stack of gold coins. He leaned forward and pulled out the small chest from the pile.
The chest was surprisingly normal, made of plain wooden material with no related luxurious designs like the other extravagant items around him.
That was exactly what made it more unique.
Alen tried to pry open the wooden chest, but it wouldn’t budge.
He then tried to imbue his mana into the lock, but that also didn’t work.
"Sigh... It seems it is not going to open itself..."
Alen then coated his hand with Crimson Essence. The dark red energy coiled dangerously around his hand as his fingers grasped the small treasure box. He then tried to crush the chest using force.
"..."
Silence still maintained its hold on the room. No sound of the crushing wood echoed. Alen felt genuinely shocked for the first time. It was his first time watching an item that couldn’t be broken by the power of his Crimson Essence.
Even back in the past, he had been able to crush the bones of a ’Walker’ with it, but it still failed to crush a simple wooden chest.
"Shit, it seems this is another mysterious item added to my life which I have to figure out later..."
He threw the wooden item into his shadow. His shadow absorbed it successfully, saving the chest securely inside his Shadow Inventory.
He turned back to look at the massive stacks of gold coins and unimaginable treasures. A crazed, greedy smile tugged on his lips.
"Don’t worry, poor treasure... I am here now, and I won’t abandon you..."
