Chapter 127: The Eclipse Spire
A swirling whirlpool opened, and a silver-haired boy stepped out of it before the portal slowly disappeared behind his back.
Alen looked around the new environment, finding this newfound location for the trial quite weird. But it wasn’t like he hadn’t faced weirder places than this since arriving in the Ascension Realm.
Alen looked around the dark space. He stood right in the middle of a massive, long corridor. He couldn’t see anyone beside him, nor could he find any hint of any other Awakeners wandering in the spire.
[Ding!]
[Location: The Eclipse Spire!]
[Trial: Reach the Top of the Spire!]
[Total Floors: 100]
[Time Limit: 365 Days]
[Current Location: Floor 1]
Alen paused as he stared at the system interface floating in front of him, reading about the trial.
"F*ck. It seems I am in some shitty spire where I have to climb all the way to the top floor in order to get out of this place within the given period of time... It seems like I am stuck in some kind of RPG game where I have to play the role of the main character and reach the very top. Tchh! It seems the Ascension Realm is really playing with us..."
"By us—I mean, where did that f*cking asshole go? It seems we really have been separated. He must have gotten some another trial, it seems. Well... Whatever, I have to climb this first before thinking about anyone else. He can handle his own things by himself..."
As Alen looked around, he started walking along the lengthy corridor, hoping to find the staircase to climb up. But it seemed he wasn’t going to find it anytime soon.
He walked on the corridor. The sharp tap of his shoes was the only sound echoing through the dark, empty halls, illuminated only by the faint embers of fire lighting the torches on the stone walls.
’It gives me the exact same vibe as if I am back in that ’Bloody Witch Mansion’ during my first trial... I have to be careful of any powerful illusionary spells.’
Alen walked through the long corridor. Even though he looked calm from the outside, he was still vigilant and highly alert. He had increased his overall senses to their maximum limit using his mana.
As he passed through the long corridor without facing any immediate danger or sensing any unknown threats around him, he felt weird. But he still continued to walk until he finally reached the very end of the corridor. He stopped and looked up at a large, imposing door.
’What might be behind that door? Is there some kind of lethal danger present behind that place? Or some secret waves of combat challenges?’
"Sigh... Whatever, let’s enter inside first. How would I open this door? Just by pushing it? Hehe... It must require some complex tactics in order to open it, judging from my past experiences..."
He casually pushed the heavy door. But to his shock, his prediction turned out wrong.
*CREAK—!*
As the giant door opened smoothly, what was revealed before him was completely out of his expectation. Alen looked at the place in utter shock, his azure eyes widening at the sight.
...
At the exact same time, in an altered dimension of the spire.
A figure wearing a pitch-black cloak suddenly stepped out from a giant whirlpool floating in the space near the floor. He appeared in a bright, empty corridor. He looked around, searching for where he actually was.
He searched the area for the familiar guy who should have been standing right beside him, but no one was present.
[Ding!]
[Location: The Eclipse Spire!]
[Trial: Reach the Top of the Spire!]
[Total Floors: 100]
[Time Limit: 365 Days]
[Current Location: Floor 1]
He turned toward his system interface. His violet gaze fell on the trial he had to face.
"Hmph, climbing the Spire? That is quite unique. It seems I will have to face different kinds of monsters on different floors... And one hundred floors is no joke. It seems I will have to spend my whole year fighting monsters and becoming exactly like that battle-junkie guy...."
"Let’s leave this place first. I don’t want to face any trouble on the very first floor. Let’s find the staircase first..."
[Ding! The ’Law’ of the ’World’ is highly dominant around the entire spire!]
[Ding! The ’Law’ of the ’World’ has strictly restricted the use of any magical Artifact!]
He tried to walk forward, but before he could take his first step, his disguise artifact pendant started to crack slightly. Spiderweb fractures started to spread rapidly around the purple pendant, and then it shattered into tiny pieces.
His heavy cloak also started to disintegrate. It started to burn from a sudden black flame, turning into dark ashes that vanished into the air.
He looked at his broken artifact. Suddenly, his body started to shine as a brilliant violet light illuminated the whole bright corridor around him.
Instead of the cloaked boy, a girl with silky raven-black hair and beautiful violet eyes appeared in full view.
She wore a long, elegant black gothic dress that closely followed her slender figure. It featured a high ruffled neckline, a fitted lace bodice woven with intricate floral patterns, long lace sleeves, a tightly cinched waist, and a layered, flowing skirt that gracefully fell to the floor, giving her a refined and regal silhouette.
She stood there, staring down at her true look. Her male disguise was revealed completely now that the artifact was destroyed.
"Sigh... It seems the spire is not as easy as I initially thought. The ’Law’ of the ’World’ is highly dominant around this place. It seems I have to carefully survive here and reach the end using my own power..."
"I am glad Alen didn’t appear alongside me, or he would have already found out that I was lying to him while hiding behind the disguise... It seems I can never meet him now, as I have already lost my disguise..."
"It seems our journey together has ended before it could even begin. It seems our friendship couldn’t last long. Well, it would be unwise to say that we were true friends, as I have been lying to him from the very start, hiding my identity..."
A look of deep loneliness suddenly appeared in her lavender eyes. She quickly shook off her depressed look and focused on the bright corridor in front of her. It was illuminated by bright light, and the floors were posh and clean. There was no hint of darkness around the area; the place felt pure, calm, and peaceful. The long corridor was completely illuminated by a soothing white light.
Lyris looked down the beautiful corridor. She stepped forward and started walking through the long halls, mentally and physically ready to face whatever new trouble she might face.
