Chapter 985: Chapter 1012: My Princess (6)
"Tong Tong," Daniel Davis leaned down and said softly, "would you be willing to date me with marriage as the goal?"
"Brother Davis."
"Don’t answer yet. Go back and think carefully about what I just said," Daniel Davis gave a wry smile, "I really don’t want to be rejected again. Give me a little time to catch my breath, don’t give me an answer now."
He looked a little hurt, and for a moment Tong Tong didn’t know what to say.
Daniel Davis had been chasing her for two years. She had turned him down many times, yet he didn’t mind at all and kept treating her well of his own accord.
She felt very guilty.
She often thought of what Mina Lee had said, and thought about being with him.
But the thing was—
She couldn’t bear it; she felt that would be a kind of hurt to him too.
As long as Camden River was still single, she couldn’t be in a relationship. It was like some kind of contract.
She was willing to stay single for him, and while staying single, work hard to become a better version of herself: keep a reasonable, healthy diet and schedule, cultivate a good habit of morning runs and exercise, study hard, improving herself inside and out, constantly moving forward.
All for that maybe one‑in‑ten‑thousand chance.
Maybe after Camden River had seen all the sails in the world, he’d turn back and still see her.
He was a man, but even a man couldn’t avoid getting hurt in love. She was willing to be that person who, whenever he needed someone, could be there to accompany and comfort him. So she had to stay single. Only by staying single did this possibility exist. She didn’t want to lose even that.
But now—
Just thinking about what happened tonight still made her heart ache.
She had never been this tired before, and she felt that Camden River probably didn’t need her.
Seven years, a full seven years.
Tong Tong stood where she was, her eyes filled with confusion and hesitation.
Daniel Davis looked at her, feeling that no matter how long he looked, it was never enough. Tong Tong was the kind of girl you never got tired of looking at.
When he met Tong Tong two years ago, he’d only thought her face was round, her voice was soft, she was a bit of a crybaby, but when she smiled there was a deep dimple, and she was actually quite cute.
As the two years slowly passed, the girl had lost quite a bit of weight. She never wore makeup, yet her skin was very good—fair and tender, full of collagen, making her look very comfortable, just lacking confidence.
Whoever it is, when they lack that bit of confidence, they never look quite so striking.
Tong Tong’s hairstyle hadn’t changed in the past two years. Straight bangs covered her forehead, and she tied a simple ponytail at the back of her head.
Her bangs were too long and would sometimes cover her eyes.
But actually her eyes were quite big, clear and pure, carrying a hint of bewilderment, just like a little deer lost in the woods, all helplessness.
Daniel Davis suddenly had the urge to kiss her.
He’d met quite a few beauties. At twenty‑eight, he’d had two women before, both quite pretty.
Yet he just felt that Tong Tong was better‑looking.
She was like an unpolished piece of jade that, given time, would slowly emit a soft, gentle luster as the years went by.
Far better than that Windsor Myres always hanging around Camden River.
What ages fastest in this world? A woman’s looks, that’s all.
Windsor Myres’s kind of flashy beauty could stun young boys at first sight, but it was hard for a mature man to choose her as a life partner. It actually had nothing to do with her lifestyle; a woman who is too dazzlingly beautiful will always make people feel a bit uneasy.
What’s more, that kind of flashy beauty can fade at any moment. There was no shortage of women like her in their circle.
A woman is like wine; only the ones that stand the test of time are truly exceptional.
And when you brew it yourself, it’s all the more full of delight.
The boy Tong Tong liked just hadn’t lived enough yet—too young, too green.
