Chapter 46: 46: The Same Goal
I swallowed the bile in my throat, maintaining as nonchalant an expression as I could.
"Are you pregnant?" I asked. "In that case, congratulations. Though I suppose it was only a matter of time, with how you and the Alphas go at it."
It was my intention to mildly irritate and deflect Violet’s attention, but I did not expect her to flare up the way she did.
She growled, shoving me to a side as I roughly fell to the floor. I groaned when my shoulder knocked against the hard floorboards, sucking in a sharp breath of air through my teeth as I tried to fight the pain.
She tossed me a death glare before strolling over to where the test kit had fallen. Then, she picked it up, scoffing as she read the result that was clearly printed on it.
Drat. I should’ve destroyed it while I still had the chance. Now it was too late.
"Bit risky to keep this around where someone could easily find it, don’t you think?" Violet said with a mocking laugh.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked the furthest away from entertained. If anything, she had never reeked this much of bloodlust before, even when she was actively trying to kill me during the rogue attack.
She took a look at the pregnancy test. Then, with just one hand, she crushed the fragile little plastic stick with just a clench of her fist. I watched as the broken pieces of the pregnancy test fell to the floor, completely unrecognizable.
"I am feeling particularly merciful today," she said, sighing.
She dusted her palms together before making her way over to where I was. Violet bent down so that we were eye level with each other. Then, she held up a section of my hair in her fingers before allowing it to fall, her eyes glittering with villainy.
"I am here to make you an offer," she said.
"An offer?" I echoed, sneering as I pulled away from her. "From the likes of you?"
"It’s your choice whether to accept or not," she replied with a shrug. Standing up to her full height, she began to slowly circle me. "Or else, it’s only a matter of time before the Alphas find out that you’re carrying a child. I can only imagine the sort of torture the poor baby will have to go through for the rest of its miserable little life."
She then paused, snorting. "Of course, that is even assuming they would allow that bastard child of yours to be born," she added.
I gritted my teeth, looking away from her. Violet was right. If the Alphas hated me so much, why would they allow a child of mine to be born in this world? And that was if they even believed that the child was theirs. If they even suspected that it was some other wolf’s, they would kill the child without hesitation, and possibly me with it.
There was no way someone other than Rowan or Soren would be the father. However, I wouldn’t dare be so confident that they wouldn’t overthink it, or fall for Violet’s lies should she decide to pillow talk. Cassian was already wrapped around her finger as it was, and now, Soren, too.
As for Rowan, I didn’t dare to assume I could even guess what was on his mind. He was both hot and cold, and as unpredictable as a storm.
"Pray tell, then, what makes you think you’re oh so merciful?" I asked, warily eyeing her.
Violet smirked, almost as though I was a fish that had just bit down on the bait.
"Because I know what you want," she said. "You want to give birth to your little bastard child and live happily and safely away from this pack."
I kept quiet. She was right. It wasn’t difficult to guess as much. After all, there wasn’t a lot about Shadowclaw that would keep me attached to it.
Rowan, Soren, and Cassian’s faces flashed through my mind, and I tried desperately to shake the thought of them away. My heart clenched painfully.
Yes, they were my fated mates. However, they weren’t keeping me around due to their love for me. It was only because of their sick possessiveness that did not allow them to let me go. However, at the same time, it was because of this bond that they were keeping me alive.
As a result, we were all stuck in this stalemate.
"Are you suggesting you’ll help me escape?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"It’s something we can agree on, isn’t it?" Violet said, shrugging. She smiled. "You want a life away from the triplet Alphas, and I want you out of my chosen mates’ lives. Ultimately, we have the same goal."
Now that she put it that way, I could see where she was coming from. Although it was entirely messed up, Violet and I did have the same goal in mind.
I wanted to be with my fated mates. However, more so than that, I wanted a fated mate who would actually love and care for me as much as I could do so for him. Alphas Rowan, Soren, and Cassian were never going to fit that bill. Tethering me to them was nothing more than torture― they were even willing to torture themselves just to get to me.
Leaving them without a proper rejection to cut the bond entirely wasn’t ideal. However, it would be much better than staying here.
If it were anyone else who made the offer to help me escape, I would’ve jumped at the chance. However, this was Violet Sorrel.
I furrowed my eyebrows, squinting at her as though doing so would help me see through any front she might be trying to put up. Yet, she calmly watched me, the corner of her lips slightly lifted in a smirk.
As time ticked on, she grew more and more frustrated by my hesitance. That small quirk of her lips began to dampen, turning into a scowl.
"Of course, if you’re not interested, I will just have to let the Alphas know about your pregnancy," she said as she headed towards the door. "There are more ways to get rid of you other than sending you away―"
I bit my lip, my heart skipping a beat before finally crawling to my feet.
"Wait!"
