Chapter 39: He is acting strange

The door shut behind Alexander and Kaden’s irritation just peaked. His jaw clenched so tight it almost cracked. A man who left with his mate of over 25 years was advising him about bonds, which he found ridiculous.

Night came shortly. Kaden stayed in his room all day, his mood was still a load of shit and he didn’t want to meet anyone who would make him more upset than he already was.

The soft knocking sound of his door startled him awake. He glanced at the window to see that it had just gotten dark not too long ago. His brows furrowed as irritation crawled over his skin, he still wasn’t ready to meet anyone and was about to snap at whoever was at the door until a familiar voice spoke up.

"Kaden, it’s me. Why are you blocking me?" A nervous voice spoke and his stomach knotted. Kaden instantly sat up. His stomach was in knots because he hadn’t cleaned up properly after he left the forest.

Eloise was here. On a normal day it would have seemed like a good thing but remembering what happened in the forest he couldn’t bring himself to face her. He sat up trying to control his irritation, he couldn’t believe he let himself get pushed like that by a little wolf.

The more he thought about it. The more humiliation he felt. She was probably laughing in her room glad she had an effect on him. Eloise got more nervous realising Kaden wasn’t opening the door.

She was certain he was in there. She asked around before heading here. "Kaden aren’t you awake. I can leave if you don’t want to see me. If I am becoming a bother." She said pitifully then sighed heavily.

She turned around and deliberately took slow steps away. "I heard you are hurt. I just wanted to check on you." She took another step and sure enough, before the next step, the door was pulled open.

Eloise stopped, his back was against Kaden so he couldn’t see the smile curled up her lips. She knew he couldn’t ignore her even if the other brothers acted up. If Eloise was certain that just one of them was her mate her bet was on Kaden. He was the most protective of her.

"Eloise..." he called his gaze locked on her lonesome back. Something twisted in his gut he could not understand. "Sorry for taking so long. I am not in my right head." He explained..

She clenched her fist and then glanced over at him. Her eyes were watering, tears barely being held back, looking completely devastated. "Was that why you blocked me off? It’s like you guys are avoiding me."

It was hard to say if she was genuinely hurt or not but she really looked like she was falling apart. The tears rolled down her cheek followed by another. She tried holding it back but it was useless. Kaden couldn’t stand by the side. He closed the distance between them and immediately pulled her into a hug.

His uninjured hand tried to wipe away the tears rolling down her cheeks but his clumsy attempt only made it worse. He seemed powerless before her tears and it made him feel worse, a gnawing feeling he couldn’t stop.

In the end, he buried her face in his chest. His tears immediately stained his bare chest. Eloise’s frame trembled as she cried.

"Stop crying. I didn’t mean to block you but my mind was a mess." He tried apologising in a calm voice. She shifted then glanced up, her gaze was questioning.

"Kaden, do you love me?" The question stunned him because he didn’t expect her to ask that and worse. There was a twisting feeling in his stomach that made him hesitate from giving an answer he could have given flawlessly.

She was the one he was going to spend his life with, his future luna. They had known each other forever and everyone knew they were the perfect pair yet he hesitated to say something he had said a million times. Eloise stared at him expectantly every passing second made her stomach twist violently.

His gaze softened, as he stared down at her. "Yes.." he finally uttered and she instantly beamed. Eloise shoved him against the wall, and Kaden was startled by her sudden actions.

Next, she stood on her tiptoes, her arms wrapped around his neck as she pulled him down for a kiss. Her lips were scorching against his. Eloise kissed him with everything. He didn’t stop her, nor did he kiss her back and she was completely lost in it she didn’t notice the details

The way his fist clenched to the side or how he was frozen solid. Kaden’s mind was completely thrown off, not because she wasn’t a good kisser. It was something else. Something that terrified him.

A strong urge to push her away. It felt like he wasn’t meant to be kissing her. Because dear goddess why the hell was he suddenly thinking of a particular blonde that wasn’t meant to be on his mind?

Eloise’s lips left his and moved towards his chin lower to his neck. Her lips brushed against his Adam’s apple then moved to the side, where her teeth grazed, it was one of his spots but the moment her teeth touched him. He flinched like he had been electrocuted. Eloise froze, her eyes snapped at his adverse reaction.

He was breathing hard, his gaze dark like he was fighting something. She thought it was a desire, a smile curled up her lips. She could never imagine it to be something else..

"Kaden’s how about we take this inside. We can practice ahead for the wedding night..." she whispered her hand tracing over his abs that locked under her touch. Her fingers reached for his belt before she could touch the belt his hand shut out instantly to clamp her wrist..

The air seemed to have frozen. "Eloise.." he swallowed

Her gaze flickered. "Kaden is something..." She didn’t finish her words when she noticed Kaden’s gaze had snapped from her.

She glanced over, his jaw was ticking. The moment her gaze met those startled jade eyes a wave of irritation lit in her. "Yuki..." she blurted

Yuki was standing across from them holding a tray with a bowl of soup on it. "I..I.." she couldn’t get the words out.

Kaden’s gaze darkened instantly. "What are you doing here? Haven’t you seen a lot?" He snapped as an inexplicable surge of anger rose in him.

She flinched at his tone. Even the goddess knew she didn’t want to be here but she couldn’t refuse Alexander’s instruction. She should have walked away the moment she saw them kissing.

It had absolutely nothing to do with her. They were strangers or rather she freaking hated his gut but her feet couldn’t move especially when she heard Eloise mention the wedding.
