Chapter 179: Episode 179.

The hidden chamber remained painfully quiet after Adele nodded.

Torak still stood near the far wall with his face turned slightly away from her. He physically could not bear seeing what he had done to her expression.

Adele remained near the hidden doorway.

The hood covered part of her face again now, but not enough. Definitely not enough to hide the humiliation burning beneath her skin.

He could see that she looked wounded.

The lantern light flickered softly across the chamber walls while silence stretched heavily between them.

Adele waited.

Torak did not move.

Finally, her voice cut through the room quietly. "Aren’t you walking me back," she asked softly, "as you threatened?"

Torak shut his eyes briefly. The softness in her voice sounded worse than anger.

He dragged one hand slowly down his face before finally lowering himself into the nearest chair instead.

Adele frowned faintly.

Torak leaned forward afterward with both elbows resting against his knees while staring down at the stone floor beneath him.

His shoulders fell in dejection.

Adele watched him quietly.

Rain tapped softly somewhere beyond the hidden walls of the castle while the lantern beside them crackled faintly.

Torak remained silent.

Adele’s throat tightened slightly.

For one irrational second, she wanted him to look at her.

Instead, he stared at the floor like the answer to his suffering existed somewhere inside the cracks of stone.

"I never thought this day would come," she whispered finally. "A day where you prove you’re one of them."

Torak’s jaw tightened. "Adele..."

"Torak." Her voice sharpened softly. "Walk me back, or drag me back to my room as you threatened. Then you can tell my father about this."

Torak inhaled slowly through his nose. Nothing about this woman fought fairly.

Adele folded both arms tightly across herself again. She was defensive and guarded now.

"Perhaps I misunderstood you," she continued quietly. "Maybe all those years meant nothing."

Torak looked up instantly. He felt that unbearable feeling in his chest every time she sounded disappointed in him.

"Adele."

"I think... I think," She shook her head once. "I understand now."

Torak stared at her silently.

Adele laughed softly afterward, though the sound lacked life entirely. "You pity me." She said softly, her dark eyes waiting for him to lie to her.

That nearly made him angry.

Torak stood abruptly from the chair.

The movement startled her slightly. "I have never pitied you." His voice came rougher now.

Adele’s breath caught faintly.

Torak stepped toward her slowly. "You are the strongest woman I have ever met."

The words landed heavily between them.

Adele’s eyes flickered once.

Torak kept moving closer. "And perhaps that is the problem."

Adele swallowed softly.

Torak stopped directly in front of her now.

The tension between them returned instantly. It grew worse this time. Both of them knew exactly what standing this close did to the other.

Adele tilted her chin upward slightly despite the way her pulse had begun betraying her entirely.

"Then what exactly frightens you so much?" she asked quietly.

Torak stared at her. "You."

Adele’s breath stopped faintly.

Torak looked at her like he regretted saying it immediately afterward. Once again, he did not take it back.

Adele’s heartbeat quickened painfully now.

The room suddenly felt too warm.

Torak’s eyes dropped briefly toward her mouth before returning to her eyes again.

That single glance ruined whatever restraint still remained inside the room.

Adele softened.

Torak reached for her suddenly.

Adele startled softly when his fingers caught the front of her corset firmly before pulling her directly against him.

The breath left her lungs instantly and then he kissed her. His kiss came down crashing on her hard.

The kiss slammed into her like weeks of restrained hunger finally snapping apart all at once.

Adele gasped softly against his mouth.

Torak’s fingers tightened against her corset immediately.

The sound she made nearly destroyed what little control he still possessed, and he’d do anything not to lose that control.

Moon Goddess.

She tasted like rain, heartbreak, and anger.

The kiss deepened instantly afterward, violently almost. They both tried to drown inside each other before reality returned again.

Adele grabbed the front of his shirt instinctively. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him impossibly closer to deepen the kiss.

Torak gave in. He pulled her closer, and wrapped his arms around her waist as he grounded her ass with both hands now.

He moved her backwards toward the nearest wall, and stopped only when her back collided with the wall, without breaking the kiss once.

Everything felt loud suddenly.

Her heartbeat and his breathing.

The sharp sound of fabric shifting beneath desperate fingers, and their lips hungrily consuming the other was the only sound that could be heard from the chamber.

Their blood roared inside both of them desperate for more. The kisss felt like walls collapsing.

Torak kissed her again and again like he had spent months imagining this exact moment against his will. His pips moved down to her neck, as he kissed her there.

Adele felt herself breaking beneath it completely.

He kissed her so selfishly and hungrily. She was the one thing he had denied himself for too long. Adele hungrily caught his face in her palm, and led his face back to her lips for more.

A soft broken sound escaped her throat when his tongue roamed around the corners of her mouth before she could stop it.

Torak froze briefly against her mouth afterward. She was so precious to him that he needed to look into her eyes.

His breathing turned uneven instantly.

Adele opened her eyes slowly, and Torak already stared down at her.

The look inside his eyes nearly ruined her when she saw them. His deep green eyes were filled with feelings she couldn’t explain with words.

His eyes spilled enough that without words from him, she was sure he genuinely meant it when he said he loved her.

Adele’s fingers loosened slightly against his shirt.

Torak’s forehead rested briefly against hers while both of them struggled to breathe normally again.

He smiled down at her. She had colours in her cheeks again, a sight he loved so much.

His expression changed slightly when his eyes roamed around her face and collar bones carelessly.

His eyes moved slowly across her face again, then to her mouth, her throat, then higher toward the faint shadow hidden carefully beneath the edge of her collar.

He spotted the bruise again. The bruise was almost healed completely, but it was still there.

Torak went unnaturally still and just like that, everything changed. He stepped back slightly.

His voice lowered afterward. "Adele."

Her stomach tightened instantly. She doesn’t know what was going on, but she knows Torak.

He suddenly looked furious.

"Adele," he repeated more quietly this time, "does your father hit you?"
