Chapter 452: Seraphina, the Big Bully

The blonde woman opened her blue eyes fully and met his gaze with an intensity that made him straighten slightly in his chair.

"...Daitentamono was hit directly by the cosmic beam that Benjamin created some days ago," she stated, her voice dropping to a more serious register. "In fact, the spirits suggest she might have been the prime target of that attack rather than an incidental casualty."

The young man’s face went pale, all traces of annoyance replaced by dawning horror.

Renard immediately turned serious and looked back at Seraphina, his blue eyes turning cold and calculating as the weight of her words fully settled upon him.

The playful irritation that had colored his features moments before evaporated entirely, replaced by the sharp, focused gaze of a ruler who understood the gravity of what he was hearing.

"Are you absolutely sure about this information? I need you to be completely certain before we proceed any further with these assumptions."

"You mock me by saying that," Seraphina replied emotionlessly, her voice sounding with not a single trace of offense or hesitation, as if the very question was beneath her dignity to acknowledge.

Her blue eyes remained fixed on him with an unwavering intensity that spoke of absolute confidence in her sources.

"My methods of information gathering are only rivalled by Silver Shadow herself, and even she would admit that my network of spirits and whispers is unparalleled in its reach and accuracy. The spirits do not lie, your Majesty. What they show me is what has happened, what is happening, and what might happen if the currents of fate remain unchanged."

"Yes. I’m sorry for doubting you. It was just so shocking to hear," Renard apologized sincerely and clasped his hands together on his desk, his fingers interlacing tightly as he processed the implications of her revelation.

The wood felt cool and solid beneath his palms, grounding him as his mind raced through countless possible scenarios and outcomes.

"In that case, Benjamin has killed Elyndor’s beloved pet AND attempted to shatter the entire world in a single act of reckless power... Hm... She won’t take this lightly by any stretch of the imagination. If Elyndor herself even stays quiet about this transgression, which I highly doubt she will, then Echidna will absolutely move against him. She liked the Daitentamono quite well, and their bond was one of real affection rather than mere convenience... To hear that she was killed so suddenly and violently..."

"Hm? Did I say she was dead?" Seraphina closed her eyes and smiled, a subtle curve of her lips that carried an infuriating hint of amusement.

The expression was completely at odds with the seriousness of their conversation, and Renard felt his irritation rising once more.

"Please, stop beating around the bush, you theatrical lizard!" Renard snapped, his patience fraying rapidly. "Or are you trying to tell me that Rahab took that devastating cosmic blast and somehow stayed standing without any lasting damage? That seems implausible given the scale of destruction we witnessed even from afar."

"No, her physical body was completely destroyed upon impact," Seraphina answered calmly, her tone ringing with the same measured professionalism as if she were discussing wardrobe upgrade rather than the annihilation of an ancient divine beast.

As Seraphina answered with such unsettling calm, a vein popped prominently on Renard’s forehead, his jaw clenching with barely contained frustration at her deliberately cryptic responses.

"Yes, her body got destroyed completely. And Echidna will absolutely not be happy about that particular development, regardless of the circumstances," Renard continued, his voice rising with growing urgency. "Unlike Elyndor, who primarily uses Rahab as a status symbol to show off to other gods and assert her dominance, Echidna is basically the main caretaker and genuine friend of the Ancient Divine Beast.

"She has looked after Rahab for millennia, tending to her needs and ensuring her wellbeing. She will... try to do something to Benjamin as a direct result if her beloved friend’s supposed death goes unpunished. The goddess of monsters does not take kindly to those who destroy what she considers hers."

"Again, I never said Rahab was dead, your Majesty," Seraphina answered once more, but this time she held her mouth with one hand to muffle what was clearly an emerging laugh, her shoulders shaking slightly and her legs trembling from the sheer entertainment she was deriving from his escalating distress.

The professional mask she usually wore had cracked, revealing the playful cruelty beneath.

"Haha, very funny! I completely forgot you’re also the type to mock and ridicule royalty for your own personal amusement!" Renard snapped, leaning slightly and poking the blonde woman’s ribs repeatedly with his finger in a gesture that was far too familiar for a subject and her king. "So... Rahab somehow survived that catastrophic blast after all?"

"Y... Y-Y-Yes. She had other vessels prepared for the day Elyndor might eventually deem her useless and attempt to destroy her," Seraphina explained, finally wiping a tear from the corner of her eye having had such a good laugh at his expense.

Her composure slowly returned, though a hint of mirth still lingered in her expression. "The Ancient Divine Beast is far more cunning than most give her credit for. She has been preparing contingencies for centuries, fully knowing that gods are fickle individuals who discard what no longer serves them."

"Well, Echidna won’t move against Benjamin anymore if Rahab is indeed alive and well," Renard sighed heavily and bowed his head slightly, the tension in his shoulders easing by a fraction. "That’s one less catastrophic threat to worry about for now. I just hope Benjamin doesn’t do anything too stupid again in the near future. There is only so much I can cosmically protect him from, and my influence has limits that even I cannot circumvent."

"By the way, your Majesty..." Seraphina started, holding back another laugh which promptly prompted the already saddened Renard to realize that he was about to hear something absolutely horrific that would shatter whatever peace he had briefly found.

"What... is it...?" He closed his eyes tightly, hoping against hope that Seraphina truly was just messing with him once more and nothing genuinely crazy was going to happen.

His fingers pressed against his temples, already anticipating the headache that was surely coming.

"Benjamin Mark has collared Rahab currently, and has turned both her and Tentamono, her daughter, into his personal... pets, so the spirits say." Seraphina delivered the news with clinical precision, her voice holding no emotion whatsoever as she dropped this bombshell.

"..." Renard didn’t say anything.

His mouth opened slightly, then closed again. His eyes remained shut, as if refusing to acknowledge the reality of what he had just heard.

And Seraphina was thoroughly enjoying his inner turmoil, so she decided to push even farther, leaning in more closely to his ear and whispering it with dramatic intimacy.

"This could be taken to mean, whether it is actually true or not, that Benjamin Mark is openly challenging the goddess herself," Seraphina managed to say without bursting out in laughter, though her voice trembled slightly with suppressed mirth. "He threatened to destroy her world, and would have succeeded, but stopped at the very last minute. Then he struck her pet and domesticated it as if it were nothing more than a common house animal."

"...Please... Enough... I cannot take any more of this today," Renard begged weakly.

Seraphina ignored his desperate plea entirely, continuing with her verbal assault:

"Coupled with the undeniable fact that he has gained so much power in multiple iconic kingdoms across the world, that he grows more powerful with every passing day without any apparent limit... And there is that dimensional gap that happened a while ago, the one that caused such concern among the higher powers.

"Something that was not supposed to be here entered our reality and rearranged the very fabric of existence so thoroughly and seamlessly that none of us even noticed until it was already done. Don’t you think Benjamin Mark sounds exactly like the apostle of a rival god, sent here to sabotage things for Elyndor and undermine her influence?"

"...Tell them that I won’t be showing up today for the meeting with Stoneveil..." Renard stood up abruptly, walking wobbly out of the office as if his legs could barely support his weight.

His voice was hollow and defeated. "My head hurts far too much to deal with any of this right now. I want to take a long nap and pretend none of this is happening."

"Understood," Seraphina went back to full professional mode, her amusement evaporating instantly as she straightened her posture. "When you awake I will give you the full details of how Chröma the multidimensional fugitive met with Benjamin the other day and what transpired between them..."

"...You big bully..."

And with that, Renard exited the room, leaving Seraphina alone with her thoughts and the weight of the revelations they had just discussed.
