Chapter 13: 13. Busy morning

Kaileon and Justine were puzzled to see Hendry laughing heartily, until Hendry finally spoke.

"I won’t say a word to your mother if you come to see Kaileon, Justine—no need to worry. Besides, I’m glad we can eat together like this."

Justine relaxed a bit after hearing that. He was terrified of his mother, especially when he was angry like he had been the day before. It wasn’t just Justine; Luca got scolded too. Luca’s mother couldn’t stop the Duchess from scolding her son, so she just stayed silent and comforted Luca and Justine after the Duchess finished scolding them both—simply for visiting Kaileon.

The woman wasn’t even the least bit worried that Justine had nearly been attacked by a monster. If it weren’t for Kaileon, Justine and Luca might have been seriously injured.

Justine remembered clearly the first time he found out he had a brother; he was so happy, because he thought he only had sisters.

Justine went to see Kaileon; at that time, Kaileon looked very happy, but he immediately sent Justine away. At first, Justine was sad—why did his brother send him away like that?

It turned out that Duchess scolded Justine afterward, and that was when Justine realized how his mother, who had always seemed so kind, was actually cruel to others. Justine also understood why Kaileon had sent him away.

And now, Kaileon is starting to come around; he’s finally able to accept Justine by his side.

Since their father, Hendry, is there with them, Justine won’t get scolded, right?

Justine, who was lost in his own thoughts, was immediately distracted by the delicious aroma of the food Kaileon had just taken out of the oven.

Rock bird meat, coated with spices and honey, then roasted. Kai also cooked ground meat, which he shaped into hamburgers, making them into sandwiches with additional fillings, just like the burgers back on Earth.

Justine’s gaze fixed on the large burgers Kaileon had made.

"What’s that? It looks delicious!" Justine asked, pointing at the five burgers Kaileon had made.

"I’ll wrap these up for you guys; you can eat them later during the day. For now, let’s eat this roasted meat!" Kai said.

Justine cheered at the news, then said, "Can Luca have one too?"

Kai turned back to Justine and nodded, "You mean a burger? Of course, I made five, so Luca gets his share— Thanks, father." Kai turned to Hendry, who had been working hard to prepare the grilled meat for them to eat.

The man insisted on helping prepare breakfast, because he didn’t want his son to do all the work.

"Oh, is that what it’s called, a burger? Wow! It looks delicious!" Justine exclaimed again.

"How do you know how to make food like that, Kaileon?" asked Hendry. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Kai fell silent, not knowing how to answer. Seeing this, Hendry immediately realized that Kaileon didn’t seem to want to answer.

"Oh, if it’s a secret, I won’t force you to answer."

Kai smiled with relief upon hearing this. "Thank you for your understanding, father. There are some things that are hard for me to explain, and I’m glad you can understand that."

Justine, who heard this, actually had a similar question to Hendry’s.

Kaileon hadn’t always been like this, but Justine knew he had many secrets and was a private person. Perhaps this change in Kaileon was because he was starting to open up to others.

"Whatever it is, I still love you, big brother!" Justine exclaimed, making Kai chuckle happily.

Kai had always liked children, and Justine was an incredibly adorable little boy. Even though he was a bit taller than Kai himself.

No, there must be a way to get taller and stronger. For now, Kai had to focus on the nutrition in his meals first.

After breakfast, Keith arrived with the new maid and the workers who would start building the footpath and the chicken coop.

The maid who usually took care of Justine came rushing in at that moment, intending to take Justine back before the Duchess found out where he was.

Before Justine left, Kaileon gave him a burger and some fruit. He didn’t forget to give his little brother banana milk, which he really loved.

Kai did all that on purpose, giving Justine lots of delicious food. First, because Kai truly loved his little brother. Second, so that the Duchess would find out and come to him again. Making that woman stressed and worried about what Kaileon might do brings Kai immense joy just thinking about it.

Besides, Kai couldn’t retaliate against the evil people who wronged him while he was alive on Earth. Only the Duchess could satisfy him, so he could vent all his pent-up anger on her.

In an elegant and orderly manner, of course.

Then, Kai would also prove that the death of Kaileon’s biological mother was the woman’s doing.

Although for now, there were many speculations circulating about Kaileon’s mother’s death. Some said she was sickly after giving birth. Others claimed she intentionally committed suicide because she already had a child.

Many of the speculations were unsatisfying and felt very odd.

"I am Lily, I will be a good maid for you!"

"I am Peoni, please help me in the future, young master..."

The two teenage maids looked very nervous.

Keith had mentioned that he’d taken both maids from an orphanage, so this was their first time setting foot on the Duke’s castle grounds. It was clear they were very awkward and nervous at the time.

For people from an orphanage, Kai could understand why they looked so haggard. But both of them were very pretty; they just needed a little care.

"Alright, you two must be very tired after such a long journey. So you can rest first; Keith will show you to your rooms. Oh, Keith, give them the toiletries I’ve prepared, and explain how to use them if they’re confused," Kai said.

Keith nodded, then led the two maids to their rooms, which Kai had already prepared nicely.

The two maids’ rooms were small rooms specifically provided for servants. But of course, they were larger than typical servant quarters—or even the rooms they had back at the orphanage.

Besides being a bit larger, they also looked very comfortable.

The two maids couldn’t believe they each had their own room, and that their rooms were so nice. A queen-size bed with a beautiful bedspread. There was a table and chair by the window, and a wardrobe for storing clothes.

Everything looked luxurious to them; even Keith was surprised by the furnishings in the maids’ rooms. Although Keith’s own room was also very nice, in his opinion.

"Oh, are there already clothes in the closet? Did the young master give us these clothes?" asked the maid.

Keith smiled and nodded, "That’s right, the young master bought you comfortable clothes that you can wear while working here."

The maid looked happy, then touched the clothes, and was surprised all over again.

"Oh! The fabric used for these clothes is so soft, so smooth... are you sure these are for us?"

Keith laughed, then nodded, "If not for you, then for whom else? Besides you, there’s only me and the young master here; those are women’s clothes, which are perfect for you."

Both maids burst into tears, moved to the point of tears, leaving Keith completely bewildered.
