Chapter 1132: Chapter 1132: Extra—Retirement Arc
"Hahahahahaha!"
"Fu Yunhe, that fish despises you!"
"I can’t take it anymore, let me lean on you, I’m laughing too much."
Nian Shutong leaned on Fu Yunhe’s shoulder, laughing heartily, doubling over with laughter, unable to control herself.
It was too funny for her.
Fu Yunhe also laughed along, his shoulders shaking, both of them unable to stop laughing.
After they’d laughed enough, they continued to catch fish.
That carp was probably pretty clever, because after trying for a long time, they never saw that carp again, and not even a single crucian carp was caught.
"It’s probably enough, enough to eat."
The bucket Nian Shutong was holding already had seven or eight fish in it, packed together, enough for the two of them to eat.
"Since we’re here, let’s check over there."
"Alright."
The two of them walked towards a small ditch in the distance. The water here was shallow, just covering their feet, filled with stones, not exactly crystal clear, but not polluted either, just a lot of pebbles and leaves and such.
Nian Shutong squatted down and lifted a stone, revealing several small crabs that scattered quickly, very agile.
Instinctively, Nian Shutong pressed down with her hand, catching two small crabs, one of which pinched her little finger.
"Fu Yunhe!"
Fu Yunhe turned around and saw Nian Shutong trying to shake off her finger. His first reaction was to laugh a little.
He hurried over, tapping the crab’s belly with a finger. The little crab apparently received the attack and gave up on Nian Shutong’s finger, turning to protect its belly.
With a "plop," the little crab fell into the bucket, colliding with a group of fish.
"My fish, will they eat the crab?"
"No idea."
Nian Shutong just asked casually, looking at the small shallow area with interest, she said, "Let’s catch a few more, fry them up when we get back, or pickle them to eat."
"Alright."
The two of them squatted down, starting to search under the stones, catching some small crabs, and encountered many small shrimps.
"Next time we should bring a basket."
"When we get back, we can set a fish trap near the house, there should be a lot by tomorrow."
"That would be even better."
While catching crabs, they also picked a lot of edible snails, which they could roast over charcoal when they got back.
The two of them spent nearly two hours catching, really caught a lot, and it was almost noon, so they were getting ready to head back.
Back home, they could finally take off their big waders, change into dry clothes, and they set up a charcoal fire in the yard to prepare for grilling.
Fu Yunhe prepared the charcoal fire while Nian Shutong cleaned the fish, snails, crabs, and other things.
Once everything was ready, Fu Yunhe mixed up some sauces for the grilling later.
Some of the fish were grilled directly over the fire, others were put in a box and marinated with sauce as they grilled, and a plate of snail meat had the tails cut by scissors, with sauce drizzled into the opening, slowly grilling.
The grilling work was mainly done by Fu Yunhe, while Nian Shutong sat on the side with a glass of wine, facing a super-clear projection displaying a famous Earth cartoon, Crayon Shin-chan.
"Hahaha, this is too funny."
"So kids are this amusing? I seem to have forgotten."
Fu Yunhe handed Nian Shutong a skewer of lamb, letting her eat while watching.
"Delicious."
"Try a bite."
The two of them, in the yard under the shade of a tree, watching cartoons, sipping small drinks, eating small barbecues, enjoying the fruits of their labor, it really had a different kind of taste.
Of course, this was premised on the fact that they were retired and had both time and money.
If not for these two factors, rural life would be far less leisurely, farm work not as easy, and although the brain might not be tired, the endless struggle for a living was never easy.
After finishing a small drink paired with barbecue, Nian Shutong stretched lazily.
"Are you feeling sleepy?"
"You really know me well."
Nian Shutong mischievously tapped Fu Yunhe on the nose and, yawning, said, "I intend to take a nap, do you want to join?"
"You go ahead, I’ll be up shortly."
Fu Yunhe tidied up the yard, and by the time he went upstairs, Nian Shutong was already asleep.
He picked up a book from the bedside, leaning on the other side of the bed, not very sleepy, but he could lie down with her for a while.
Originally not very sleepy, holding a book, Fu Yunhe probably only finished one page, listening to Nian Shutong’s breathing, gradually becoming drowsy.
When the two of them woke up, it was already close to three in the afternoon.
"Ah, that was a satisfying nap."
Nian Shutong felt a bit groggy after waking, her mind waking up but her body definitely not, wanting to linger on the bed for a bit longer.
Bored, she started to tug at Fu Yunhe’s beard.
Fu Yunhe naturally woke up too, mostly curious about what Nian Shutong was up to, but as she tugged on his beard, he wrapped an arm around her.
"Ouch."
"I haven’t even started yet."
"It will hurt."
The two of them, lying drowsily in bed for a while, also got up, and it seemed it was about time for dinner.
"Luckily my appetite is good, otherwise eating all day like this, the stomach couldn’t handle it."
"No worries, even if you eat a lot, it won’t."
Nian Shutong glanced over, looking at Fu Yunhe, saying, "Are you complimenting me? I didn’t feel it at all?"
Fu Yunhe shook an empty pot in Nian Shutong’s direction, asking, "What should we eat?"
This question was indeed a bit tricky.
For two people with nothing to do all day, the biggest task seemed to be deciding what to eat each day.
"How about braised rice with matsutake, meat chunks, and bamboo shoots?"
"Your request isn’t simple at all."
Either way, Fu Yunhe started getting busy.
Originally, Nian Shutong was supposed to help in the kitchen, but after being there for less than three minutes, she made several requests, and eventually, Fu Yunhe kicked her out.
"Please, Madam, go check on your flower shop. Leave this place to me."
Fu Yunhe thought that if Nian Shutong stayed a while longer, they might end up with a full banquet for dinner.
"Uh oh, I’m being shunned."
Nian Shutong, with her hands behind her back, went to her flower shop, almost closed all day, finally opened.
"Whoa! Bro, why are you sitting here?"
Sitting at the entrance of the flower shop was a man in tattered clothes, but with clean fingernails.
"I, I, I want to buy a flower."
The man sitting on the ground took out a Star Coin, asking expectantly, "Is one lily enough?"
The Star Coin in the man’s hand was worth one star coin, the smallest denomination in the interstellar.
Normally, a lily would cost at least five-star coins, but Nian Shutong ran her business based on her mood, not for making money.
"Sure!"
"What color do you want, what variety? You can come in and take a look."
